NEW YORK — Barack Obama and former President Clinton talked for two hours on Thursday, their first meeting in a White House race that had once bitterly divided them. Clinton predicted that Obama will win the presidency "pretty handily."

Their conversation started with small talk about the former president's commute to his Harlem office and ended after a lunch of sandwiches, flatbread pizza and salad from Cosi.

"They discussed the campaign briefly, but mostly talked about how the world has changed since September 11, 2001," their spokesmen said in a joint statement. The meeting came on the seventh anniversary of the attacks and shortly before Obama was to visit Ground Zero with Republican presidential rival John McCain.

Reporters were allowed in at the beginning of the meeting in Clinton's 14th floor office, but the former president kept his answers short when he was asked about his involvement with Obama's campaign this fall. He noted an already announced trip Sept. 29 to Florida.

Obama said, "We're putting him to work."

Asked if he would be campaigning beyond that, Clinton said, "I've agreed to do a substantial number of things, whatever I'm asked to do."

Before reporters were ushered out, Clinton was asked where he sees the race between Obama and McCain.

"I predict that Senator Obama will win and win pretty handily," he said.

Obama interjected: "You can take it from the president of the United States. He knows a little something about politics."

Obama and Bill Clinton appeared less friendly toward each other at times during Obama's Democratic primary battle with Clinton's wife, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton of New York. After Obama clinched the party's nomination, both Clintons gave strong speeches in Obama's favor during the party convention in Denver.

Obama's visit to Clinton's Harlem office, which overlooks Central Park, sparked excitement in the neighborhood, with people crowding around police barricades that shut off the block. The two men briefly appeared in front of the building, where a large group had been waiting for hours in hopes of a glimpse.

People screamed loudly and snapped cell phone pictures when the two emerged. Obama ducked back in the building with Clinton after a few waves but without shaking hands.

Their spokesmen said the two men were complimentary of each other's work, with Obama praising the Clinton Foundation, and Clinton applauding the candidate's campaign.

"They also spoke about what the next president can do to help make the economy work for all Americans, as it did under President Clinton, and ensure safety and prosperity far beyond the coming the election," their joint statement said.

Slick Willie and Barrack Obama. Sen. Obama can't be dumb enough to think that the ex President wants him to win the presidency, He wants to sit back and say that I did all I could and so did Hillary and barrack blew it. Here is a shocker! I actually the way he sometimes related to the people. I don't a rock star; I want some one who will care about what I care about as an Independent Conservative. There must be some areas where we can come together and agree to disagree on issues on the extreme. But If Liberals insist on going the way of that crazy KOS and Move On crowd I can not vote for him. I am not far right but I am center right and I have to be able to trust him that he want just try to give away everything this someone like myself has had to work for all of my life. I had to pay for My Kids College. The Government did not. I am retired Military and I did not make a lot of money. We just had multiple jobs. Why can other parents do the same? Rather that attack this question, someone help me understand why I should vote for a give away program? I don't mind a New deal but not a Raw Deal.

Please explain exactly which parts of Obama's platform do you feel will constitute a "Raw Deal" or "give away program?"

Yes, I think PresidentClinton wants Senator Obama to win. He is, after all, a realist. He knows, for example, that the primary is over, and we are now engaged in the Presidential campaign.
He is aware Senator Clinton did not win the nomination. I'm sure he would have preferred that she had. This does not mean he is or ever was opposed to Obama in any way other than as his wife's competitor.
The nay-sayers need to grow up in my opinion.
The "if only" mindset is fantasy and will do NOTHING to get this country anywhere except stuck in the very bad present for another four years, and no one knows that better than President Clinton. I do not believe for one millisecond that he thinks the country would be better off or even in neutral with what the Republicans have offered up.
He and Senator Clinton are bigger people than that.
Maybe we've become too used to bittervipers the past 8-10 years.

We are honoring Hillary's request for UNIFICATION!:

THE DEMOCRACTIC PARTY IS NOW COMPLETELY UNITED BEHIND OUR CANDIDATE, BARACK OBAMA !!!.

If Bill Clinton hits the talk show circuit and pushes for Obama the way only Bill Clinton, a 2 term president who left the White House with a 64% approval rating can, then the emocrats win.
It is that simple. Bill Clinton HAS To get out there on TV and remind people what effective leaders
can do - in the world and here with a good economy. Bill Clinton on TV shows vs Sarah Palid???
Palid is a NOT READY FOR PRIME TIME PLAYER.
Obama needs top get Bill Clinton on TV as much as possible to remind America of what is
possible with real change - not Palid change.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 12:49 AM on 09/12/2008

think about it, he left office with an 84% approval rating. When in the history of America do we get a "surprise upset" election and a complete party turnover when people are so happy with what they have? With fixed elections and electronic voting machines, that's how.
I do not like Obama. I feel his qualifications are nil and marginal, a good speaker and a pretty face. I supported Hillary (not so pretty but full of great ideas and a agenda that included REAL Health care)who would have made mincemeat of McCain. How did this happen? I will
vote for the lessor of evils, Obama.

Haven't you Intellectuals figured out that since Senator Joe Biden is the V.P. nominee, Bill and Hillary Clinton feel comfortable supporting the Democratic ticket now. Senator Joe Biden is a charter member of the DLC which is the Moderate Wing of the Democratic Party started by the Clintons to counter-act the Liberal Left Wing element. Senator Biden's job is to negate the bad influence that Nancy Pelosi, John Kerry, Ted Kennedy, and others of their ilk have on Barack Obama. Hopefully Obama/Biden can win the Whitehouse with Bill and Hillary Clinton's help so we can reclaim the Presidency. If Obama's ego and Michelle's nagging would not let him choose Hillary for V.P., at least Joe Biden was a good second choice. Let's band together to get them elected in November.

What are you talking about?

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 02:39 PM on 09/12/2008

fisharefriends: I'm talking about the attempt by Nancy Pelosi, Howard Dean, John Kerry, Ted Kennedy, Donna Brazile, and James Clyburn to join the Republicans in an attempt to destroy the Clintons and give Obama the Democratic nomination. There is plenty of information on the INTERNET to explain what happened in the Democratic Primary.
I thought Obamabots were educated enough to know what the plan was and were buying into it. This will explain it if you care to investigate.

GREAT TO SEE BILL OUT IN FRONT, I THINK HE understands well what is at stake for our nation's future, etc. He understands the URGENCY OF NOW and that the election of O is essential to make the change ,turn away from the corrosive policies and ways of the BUSH team and begin anew. It's also not affirming the past 8 yrs with MAC sneaking in etc.. It's the supreme court ,fed court appointments at stake!!! It's war or peace, health care or bankruptcy! It's the future of real thought or phony beauty contests! Education or ignorance! The best and the brightest or the bland and the mediocre.

Do you guys really think Bubba is going to help the big O that much? Bill and Hill have a whole bunch of hard feelings for O and they don't forget. Why do you think you haven't seen Hill much? She makes an occasional appearance but not many. She was out the other day and, even though baited, she wouldn't say anything negative about Palin. She's so scary and for reasons that have nothing to do with gender. extremists of any sort are unable to use logic, thought and reason.

One thing for sure is that the clinton supporters will not aprove of this show, and they will make the messiah to pay in novemeber for trashing bill clinton presidency. taking your words never trash a member of your own party especially when that member was the first democrat president that served two terms since FDR.

Bill would never sell out the American people. They are first and formost. He is able to put aside any disagreements he may have had for the good of the public. He knows the public is hurting baaad, and needs his help. This is why he and Hillary are backing Obamma. Not to would be bad PR for him, his wife and his party. There are still plenty of people, evangelicals excluded who are behind him, would gladly vote as he asks, but more importantly, know that he was given a raw deal. He also knows you have to have someone in office, and in this case two people in office who have the credentials to be president and VP, who understand the job, and Palen isn't it. Let's add to the fact he knows who was behind his little trist with Monica. He wants payback. So yes, he is going to give it his all, to make sure Bush, Cheney, Rove, go to jail for thier crimes, and how they have harmed his public. Bill, once again, you are my favorite president. Is it any wonder why?

Sorry SantaFeStars, I must set you straight on "MENSA". You are right about Bill Clinton being a member of MENSA but you don't explain what an achievement that really is. This website will explain what a unique individual you people were trashing before he became a fellow Obamabot and you allowed him back into the Democratic Party. I defy all of you eggheads to either take the MENSA IQ test or submit one that you have taken that qualifies you for membership.
http://www.mensa.org/index0.php?page=10
"Mensa was founded in England in 1946 by Roland Berrill, a barrister, and Dr. Lance Ware, a scientist and lawyer. They had the idea of forming a society for bright people, the only qualification for membership of which was a high IQ. The original aims were, as they are today, to create a society that is non-political and free from all racial or religious distinctions. The society welcomes people from every walk of life whose IQ is in the top 2% of the population, with the objective of enjoying each other's company and participating in a wide range of social and cultural activities."
"Today there are some 100,000 Mensans in 100 countries throughout the world. There are active Mensa organizations in over 40 countries on every continent except Antarctica. Membership numbers are also available for specific National Groups."
I extend this challenge to Presidential nominee Senator Barack Obama also.
