Tina Fey Sarah Palin

Saturday Night Live creator and executive producer Lorne Michaels said the show is talking with Tina Fey about playing Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin at some point this season, possibly as soon as this Saturday's season premiere.
Tina Fey

"There are discussions [with Tina]," Michaels said during a conference call with reporters. "They are ongoing."

Rumors have been swirling that Fey will portray Palin, at least for the season premiere, following an interview with 24-year-old SNL scribe Simon Rich in New York magazine. Fans online have posted pictures of Fey next to Palin, pointing out similarities.

Michaels isn't hedging all of his bets on Fey, however. He said current cast member Casey Wilson has read for the part of Palin.

No no no no no... he needs to bring Dana Carvey back to do a variation on his Church Lady character for Palin.

Tina Fey is too obvious. Carvey would be a riot.

Church Lady would be perfect! But we also need Carvey to play McCain - as Grumpy Old Man!

The problem with the Demos is that they suffer from the battered wife syndrome. They always differ to the Republicans. When they got screwed out of the election by the Supreme Court, a major slap in the face, they said, "that's okay, it didn't hurt that much". They took impeachment off the table so as not to upset daddy president. They voted for funding the occupation of Iraq over and over again ("yes dear, yes dear") They voted for FISA. When Karl Rove walked away from a supeona they just shrugged and said, "he must be tired today, it's okay, let him go for a nap". And the list goes on. Americans want leaders that will stand up for themselves.

The Democrats have to be just as audacious as the Republicans and force the media to get their word out.

you know what is really funny. There are many more jokes on Mc/P than BO/B. Is it that they take the high road, or am I biased?

No, it's because as hard as he tries Fred Armisen really doesn't do Obama justice. I know I'm not the only one to notice that the skin tone may be right but somehow he just misses the mark.

They don't know what's amusing about Obama. They can't see it. Neither can The Daily Show.

But at least he won't have to call Fey in past the first week in November.

Right???

Why do I get the feeling that Karl Rove WAS COUNTING ON THIS?

Make fun of McCain but leave the digs on Palin out. Otherwise they'll all end up in McCain's culture wars ads. They would be Frank Luntz focus group meter breakers.

Don't psyche yourself out. I don't think that the whole country, and Saturday Night Live in particular!, needs to be terrorized by what they *think* Karl Rove or any other republican operative might do.

Note to SNL writers: be sure to get that annoying shrill harpy sound emanating from her mouth down pat ,and don't forget copious amounts of wolf blood. Especially wolf pup blood. Maybe even wolf fetal blood. Sarah loves fetuses, more than she loves you or me or humans (especially smart humans), and certainly more than any non-god-fearing wild animal. Oh! and 2 faces. Oh! and a set of hoofed feet and and a forked tail!..........

Expect some rightwng memes, and unflattering mockery of Obama. All the jokes about McCain or Palin will be toothless.

Anyone remember how SNL bashed Gore, not Bush, in 2000??????

You dont remember the skit Will Ferrell did in 2000 about what if George W Bush won and how he destroys the country?

They have always been leaning right. The best perspective of them I think was in Tim Robbins movie "Bob Roberts". SNL likes to pretend they are young and hip, but then try to pull you to the right.
