NY Times:

In speech after speech to crowds in Ohio, Pennsylvania and Virginia in recent days, Gov. Sarah Palin, the Republican candidate for vice president, has made sure to mention the so-called Bridge to Nowhere, the Alaska project that has become the symbol of earmarks, and what she portrays as her "thanks but no thanks" position on it.

When she landed in Fairbanks in her home state on Wednesday night, though, the bridge was notably absent from an (otherwise mostly similar) speech she made inside an airplane hangar before her homestate crowd.

Ever since she first said it, two weeks ago, critics have questioned her claim that she "told Congress, 'thanks but no thanks on that Bridge to Nowhere.'"

Does't matter anyone with any brains could see during her interview with Gibson that Palin is in WAY OVER HER HEAD! She cannot be the VP or heaven forbid ever the President of this country!

Most people would, indeed, take the promotion. Harriet Miers. Alberto Gonzalez. Sarah Palin. There is great virtue in knowing and admitting one's limitations.

O course she dropped it, the people in Alaska would know she was lying and call her out on it!

She can't get away with it in Alaska. They know better, and she knows it. She'll pick up that twisted tale again as soon as she's back in the contiguous forty-eight.

Well, making her change course is like turning a tanker at sea, but I guess she finally did it.

I agree...especially since with all the earmarks she asked for (and got) for Wasilla, those dollars are coming from folks like you and me in the lower 48. I don't mind helping out our fellow citizens in Alaska with a little spare change, but over 20 mil is a little much.

actually... i was giving a short speech earlier today... and touched on the subject of how this country has a party that has become so obsessed with winning, that they now have become the party of liars. yep.. i mean... yup... liars.

of course the pols have always been liars. and the party's operatives are liars... but now the party's voter's have become comfortable with lying as well.

so now we have a national party of liars! and.. until we deal with the fact that the republican party's moral compass can't find "true north" anymore... we can't deal with any other problems that are sinking this country.

as we all know... first you have to admit you have a problem before you can start to deal with it.

our national problem is, half of this country has become a bunch of liars!

Who knows, maybe she'll just go back to misquoting Abraham Lincoln. He is dead afterall, so how mad could he get?

Maybe she only dropped it because she was in Alaska. Alaskans never thought it led to nowhere. They might have thought it insulting to refer to it that way. Sadly, I don't think actual facts or lack thereof had anything to do with her not referencing it.
