Fashion companies have discovered a lucrative new marketing vehicle: Sarah Palin.

Since John McCain chose her last month as his running mate, Gov. Palin's personal style has sparked a buying frenzy. Many women are snapping up her choices of shoes and eyeglasses and blogging about which brand of lipstick she wears. Hairstylists and wig sellers report sudden demand for her trademark up-dos. Indeed, the brands behind Gov. Palin's fashion taste have gone into overdrive seeking to cash in on the association.

Logic has obviously disappeared from this campaign, so any complaining or explaining is useless!

Palin was quoted as saying (before the VP nomination) that she put her hair up in the bun and wore "school marm" glasses because she wanted to play down her looks so it wouldn't be a distraction. Pretty slick. From looking at past photos you can see she has multiple pairs of frames that all look quite expensive and stylish. And the hair? Her hair is very carefully streaked and styled most of the time, even though it may look casual. The upswept hair is actually very flattering - it puts emphasis on her cheekbones and eyes and away from her softening jawline (from age.) Her clothes may not be flashy but you can tell they are good quality, well-tailored and definitely not from the bargain rack at Walmart. That all sounds pretty irrelevant but I think it shows she is very savvy about crafting her image into what sells - just another busy working woman/hockey mom, not too hung up on her looks- when she obviously does care very much about her looks. I think it's obvious she has been getting by on her personal charm, good looks and raw ambition instead of developing a solid knowledge base. Not a good role model for women.

Making over one's self to appear as someone else is similar to those cheap imports that knock off the real thing. Not only is it an imitation, it is also unnecessary.
