Chicago Public Schools officials said Thursday they were investigating a student's complaint that he was ridiculed by a teacher because he was a Muslim.

The 13-year-old student, Saleh Choudhary, said because of the April 6 incident, he has been intimidated and isolated by his peers, NBC5's Anthony Ponce reported.

"He came home, and before he even took his backpack off, he had tears in his eyes already," said Mohmmed Fahad Choudhary, Saleh's brother.

Choudhary's family said while he was at the Brentano Math and Science Academy in Logan Square, a teacher made a comment during a history lesson about Mesopotamia. Choudhary was the sole Muslim in the class.

The family wants the teacher fired? Are you kidding me? How did someone, with such poor judgment, no cultural or social sensitivity and outright ignorance ever make it into the classroom in the first place? Oh right, it's CPS. This is disgusting. Duncan, like any SI or CEO, faces a sisyphean battle, no doubt. But infractions like this are excusable and before Duncan considers referring to himself again as a reformer, he better provide some real oversight.
