Two Top McCain Officials Lobbied For Oil-For-Sex Scandal Companies

Talking Points Memo   |   September 12, 2008 05:50 PM

Here's something that could complicate the McCain-Palin reform message a bit: It turns out that McCain's national finance co-chair, Wayne Berman, is a paid lobbyist, and has been one for years, for two of the oil companies that are at the center of the sex, drugs and oil scandal enveloping the Interior Department.

One of McCain's high-ranking campaign officials also lobbied for the companies for years -- during time periods when the scandal has unfolded -- up until he joined the McCain campaign in the spring.

Drilling is not a good idea. The reason I don't think so is because, it isn't in our national interest to get off of foriegn oil. That would do nothing to prices, only make people invested in American oil rich vs. other countries. Nothing against people getting rich.

The national security issue is that Russia has enough oil, that, getting $120.00/bar means they have unlimited funds to build up and invade and new weapons and ect.

We need to end the need for oil to the point of $30.00/bar. Then, we can end aggression with out using the 18y/o in the military to do what we should have had the courage to do in 2008. Drilling does very little to get oil world wide down. We need to "de-value" oil in the entire world, not just make more available. Courage people courage!

This article only proves that McCain is the Same. The lobbyists might not have directly been involved in these scandals, but the fact that McCain is working with the same people he denounces is suspicious.

I was an independent, not now. I"m tired of the McCain / Palin act already. We"ve endured 8 years of deceit and it"s time for an overhaul. McCain started out as well meaning and honorable but has evolved to disgraceful and dishonorable.

He bypassed many worthy and capable women to choose Sarah Palin. She appears to be very smart and likeable however I have zero confidence in her. Her mode of operation is to emerge as knowledgeable and above reproach, she is neither. Her best decision would have been to decline the offer of being the VP. She brings a lot baggage, deceit, inexperience and many questions about her.

It"s appalling that Republicans across the nation are praising Sarah and showing massive approval without a sound reason. Is McCain / Palin all you have? Bush/Chaney looks palatable.

McCain / Palin operate under the "Nine Commandments". "You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor" has been deleted from their hearts and campaign. My vote is for Obama/Biden 2008.

That's exactly why we need Barack Obama as President of the United States of America! McCain's integrity is a disgrace.

In Canada we pay much more for gas then you do in the U.S. despite the fact Canada has one of the largest oil reserves in the world if the largest. As the hurricane was hitting the oil rigs south of Texas our gas prices increased a dollar a gallon. WHY? We didn't even get a breeze up here.

The truth is drill here drill now won't lower gas prices one cent in the U.S. and if checked out you will likely find the majority investors in Canadian oil are U.S. oil magnates. Why aren't the Democrats bringing this to light against the GOP's drill drill drill?

I tried to post this to a CNN blog but they wouldn't print it as the corporate world continues to keep Americans in the dark.

What I have been wondering: Where is the Justice Department?

Isn't it their job to investigate and prosecute corruption?

Why do we keep hearing from Inspector generals of agencies and not from federal prosecutors or grand Juries?

Oh I get it. The Justice department were running their own sex/drug/drinking orgies with the people they were investigating.

The ONLY HOPE for America is to elect Barak Obama. He will bring integrity back to government. The only problem: There won't be enough prosecutors in the entire Justice Dpartment to investigate and prosecute all the corruption that will be uncovered.

And Joe ( agent for change ) Biden's son is a lobbyist. Get off this lobbiest stuff lets go after all the lawyers or all the oil companies.

Both candidates Mccain and Obama could have proposed legislation to limit more severly lobbyist. This is another phoney issue.
that will make people stay at home on election day. Me included

"that will make people stay at home on election day. Me included"

What nonsense. The people surrounding the candidate are owed big time with cabinet and administration appointments. The people behind the campaigns will control the direction and corruption of our country.

A lot has been discussed about their lobbyist connections but has not pointed out that a great many of McCain's advisors are also hard core neocons who are hell bent on going after Iran. With these connections and McCain's own pro-war philosophy I am sure that a military draft is on the horizon if McCain is elected.

This information should be an extremely important reason to vote.

When this story first broke about the oil-for-sex scandal, my very first thought was how high up in Mc's campaign was someone involved. I now have my answer.
