McCain-Palin Crowd-Size Estimates Not Backed by Officials

Senator John McCain has drawn some of the biggest crowds of his presidential campaign since adding Alaska Governor Sarah Palin to his ticket on Aug. 29. Now officials say they can't substantiate the figures McCain's aides are claiming.

McCain aide Kimmie Lipscomb told reporters on Sept. 10 that an outdoor rally in Fairfax City, Virginia, drew 23,000 people, attributing the crowd estimate to a fire marshal.

Fairfax City Fire Marshal Andrew Wilson said his office did not supply that number to the campaign and could not confirm it. Wilson, in an interview, said the fire department does not monitor attendance at outdoor events.

Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin is maneuvering to stop an investigation into an alleged abuse of power, in part, by claiming that she has an unlimited right to pry into the personnel records of all state employees, including the state trooper who divorced her sister.

Palin’s new position was summed up in a Sept. 9 letter from Alaska Attorney General Talis Colberg to the state legislature, which has authorized an independent counsel probe into whether Palin and her staff illegally accessed confidential personnel records of her ex-brother-in-law, state trooper Mike Wooten.

The probe also focuses on Palin’s firing of state Public Safety Commissioner Walter Monegan in July after he refused to fire Wooten.

Colberg’s argument is that Palin can access confidential files of any state employee she chooses and thus the allegation that she got unauthorized access to Wooten’s personnel records – by whatever means – is moot.

On the subject of crowd sizes has anybody noticed that Obama's news clips hardly show the crowd anymore.

Every clip from a few weeks and months ago had 100 people in the backround now all they show is him in front of 2 flags or on an airport tarmac but where have all the crowds gone?

As an fyi - Obama's crowd size is by design. He chooses the amount of people per event. Small and intimate to allow more question/answer sessions or larger crowds if applicable based on content of his message.

The biased media also lamented on the size of Obamas crowd in Germany. What they failed to mention was that there was a free rock concert before he spoke which drew many of the crowd.
They also asked many in the crowd why they were there and they said they were just curious.

what is funny to me is that when McCain is called out on a lie -- the response from his supporters is -- well "Obama did" or "Obama said" . . . . .

Please stop it. You should apply the same rules that you would apply (for example) to your kids. If my child did something wrong and I call him/her on it, it is not acceptable to me if the response is to try shifting the attention to the sibling vs. accepting responsibility for their own actions.

These basic rules should certainly apply to the person who is supposed to lead our country.
