McCain-Palin Crowd-Size Estimates Not Backed by Officials

Bloomberg:

Senator John McCain has drawn some of the biggest crowds of his presidential campaign since adding Alaska Governor Sarah Palin to his ticket on Aug. 29. Now officials say they can't substantiate the figures McCain's aides are claiming.

McCain aide Kimmie Lipscomb told reporters on Sept. 10 that an outdoor rally in Fairfax City, Virginia, drew 23,000 people, attributing the crowd estimate to a fire marshal.

Fairfax City Fire Marshal Andrew Wilson said his office did not supply that number to the campaign and could not confirm it. Wilson, in an interview, said the fire department does not monitor attendance at outdoor events.

The John McCain campaign is sending out
FAULTY ABSENTEE VOTER REGISTRATION FORMS.

So far voters in Ohio, Virginia, and New Mexico have received them.

They may be trying to have you dropped from the voter registration list (i.e. "caging"),
but they are definitely trying to cause confusion with Democratic voters.

There is no evidence that the McCain campaign is sending absentee ballots to Republican voters.

If you get one...

I am from Ohio, I live overseas and will be voting via absentee... how the heck will I distinguish that I get the proper ballot? What do the bogus ones look like?

It's not the ballot that's faulty. It's a form that requests an absentee ballot. There's a checkbox that asks if you're eligible to vote, and it was not required to include it. The McCain campaign did include it, and now the Sec. of State in Ohio says it must be checked or the request for a ballot won't be honored. It was my understanding that McCain sent these to 1 million Repubs, not Dems, and the Repubs are furious because the Sec. of State insists she can't accept the requests without the info filled out correctly.
