Over the past two decades of Israeli-Palestinian negotiations, deadlines for peace agreements have come and gone with precious few treaties.

Now, amid low expectations for an agreement before the expiration of the Bush administration's target for an accord by the end of 2008, voices are growing on both sides advocating abandoning talks on Palestinian statehood if they miss the mark yet again.

The status quo favors Israel. The U.S. favors Israel. That's why nothing is happening. Duh !!!!!!

Prime Minister Ehud Olmert on Monday said he was sorry for the plight of Palestinians and Jews who became refugees as a result of Israel's establishment.

"I join in expressing sorrow for what happened to the Palestinians and also for what happened to the Jews who were expelled from Arab states," the prime minister said.

Now that's reasonable approach

What a one-sided article. Only the Palestinians talk of a 'binational state'; you won't find too many Israelis willing to commit national suicide.

Peace is only possible as a region-wide accord.
No peace is possible as long as Syrians and Iranian keep on send in wagonloads of weapons to Palestinians, and Muslim countries keep up their phantasmagorical Anti-Jewish and Anti-Israeli propaganda. Of course the important element is for Muslim host countries to solve their Palestinian camp refugee camp problems. Israel should offer cash settlement to displaced refugees and may be let in some people who ACTUALLY RESIDED in Israel in 1948. NOT their descendants born in other countries, of course. This is a good blue [print for peace negotiations.

Dang!! That wall looks just like a mirror copy of the one the U.S. Patriot Agency border patrol built here in South Texas. Only the south border wall has waaay more concertina barbed wire not to mention the machine gun wielding guards-towers every 1000 feet or so.

This talk about a binational state is old news. It was the policy of the PLO for decades. So what if Palestinians are now saying that's what they want again. It takes two to tango. Without Israel agreeing to give up its statehood, it will never happen. And Israel will never agree to it, nor should it. What country has ever agreed to national suicide?

If and when the Palestinians give up violence and terrorism, they will get a state of their own, next to and not instead of Israel. Until then, Israel has to do its best to defend its people.

One state solution was originated with Edward Sa'id (long live his memory) for the first time in the 1980's when it was laughed at.

Now, so many years of bloodshed and murder and geneocide of the Palestinians in Gaza by Israelis, the hatred of israel is so strong that I doubt it will be even cosidered as a realistic solution.

Forgive Me for saying this.

I can't stand how some People can't & don't want to move-on from their past hatred of others!

We all agree that hate breeds more hate, and as long as these groups of People keep on using wedge-issues from their past & present too be the main issues that they base their lives on now there wont be Peace between & with those People.

Such a shame, there is so much Beauty in history, even within the parts of History that seem so Hopeless & Dark!

Let it go, and live & let live now.

This dispute could be solved over night if America was not so biased against the Palestinians.

The solution the dispute:

Israel returns the disputed territories to the Palestinians in return for a full membership in NATO complete with security guarantees. Palestinians get back their land and Israel has security. It is just that simple.

The problem:

A few religious fanatics in Israel and America that believe they have divine right to the disputed territory, (if not all of the Palestinian land), and this right means they are allowed to drive the Palestinians off the land with any means necessary.

The solution to the problem:

Cut off all fund to both Israel and the Palestinians until the above solution is accepted by both parties.

The headline is extremely misleading, and gives the impression that both Palestinians and Israelis are reconsidering a unified state. Instead, it's about the debate within the Palestinian community. Unfortunately, it doesn't much matter what the Palestinians think. Israel has the whip hand, the I saw nothing in the article that would indicate that any significant player in the Israeli political establishment is willing to consider granting the Palestinians of the occupied territories Israeli citizenship.

A single Israeli-Arab state with international guarantees for the security of both parties, which entails the end of the Jewish state as a Zionist entity, is the only democratic and rational solution to this intractable problem. There is an example as to how this can be accomplished, witness South Africa.

"THE STATURE OF MAHMOOD ABBAS" is talked about in this article! Are you kidding me?? This murdering terrorist was second-in-command of the PLO for 35 years as Arafat's right-hand butcher! His university thesis is on Holocaust denial! He wants to exterminate Israel "IN STAGES"..because he knows it can't happen all at once...and for this approach he's called a moderate!!! Before the moderators scrub this post...I suggest they Google Abbas and they will find out everything I am saying is 100% TRUE!!! The stature of Abbas is :he is a murdering terrorist thug...on his good days!!
