Washington Post:

A burst of ferocity stunned the room into silence. No other word for it: The vice president's attorney was shouting.

"The president doesn't want this! [1] You are not going to see the opinions. You are out . . . of . . . your . . . lane!"

Well, it sound like a good resume to be the Governor of the Great State of Alaska (GGSA), should that office become vacant. Plenty of oil and and plenty of unchecked power. What could be more desirable. And, of course, with Russia in view, The GGSA can order the Alaska National Guard to invade that country at a moment's notice if it does not do what we ask.

Why isn't anybody wondering why Cheney has been running over to Georgia? Could it be the billion dollars in reconstruction we gave them? Of course it is. When has he shown concern for any situation that he could not profit from. Look what Haliburton did in NO after Katrina.

Like Bush, Cheney should have been booted out of office long ago. Together Frick and Frack have done more to harm our economy, our respect around the globe, the environment, human rights, and privacy and sunk us deeper in to debt than any administration in the history of this country. We'll be paying for their incompetence for generations.

In any sensible political system, ie: Parliamentary democracy, they would have been booted out years ago.

Only in America would the incompetence be tolerated.

The Founding Fathers had some very, very good ideas. But did not have a tradition of democratic rule to base the Constitution on.

They got some things right, very right. (see Bill of Rights)

But they blew the impeachment portion when it comes to getting rid of incompetent or criminal Chief Executives.

So we are living in a nation governed by traitors and crooks. The only difference between bushco and the Mafia is that bushco makes up the laws.

Also, the Mafia has more integrity and honor.

A whole herd of over-the-top, toxic ideologues like Addington -- accountable to no one -- turned loose throughout the executive branch by Cheney, and accommodated by a clueless Bush just happy to be getting away with his wobbly portrayal of a president.

You raise a valid point. The word "clueless" didn't help because it was intended to refer to Junior's natural state rather than his ultimate awareness of Cheney's machinations. Coming in the door, he was a spoiled, privileged low-brow, driven more by his life pattern of 'failing upward' (and, likely, one-upping the old man) than by any vision or objectives.

That's why Cheney was such a welcome and valuable chaperone on his excellent adventure, and there's little doubt that, with every Cheney excess and trespass committed in furtherance of this lawless administration, Junior is generally aware... but, mostly, grateful.

Touché.

Cheney was mentored in the Nixon Administration ... I've often felt Cheney's prime motivation, as puppet master of Bush, was to exact revenge on those who toppled Nixon ... the American People.

The key words in this thread "domestic espionage," sleazy deals, favors and money were exchanged under a cloak of secrecy orchestrated by chenney and his henchmen...................The magnitude of the criminal mischief the bush administration has been allowed to get away with, is astounding. I hope that Americans remember this before they vote..................

So, finally the Washington Post is catching on that the entire executive branch has been one vast organized crime syndicate extorting protection money from the American populace? Who could have seen that one coming! 8-/

OMG---these people are a disgrace to our country. They should be brought ro justice---they are are corrupt and have made a mockery of our government. How can anybody in this country want to vote for a GOP candidate because we know that it will all be the same. They are a disgrace--they do not have an honest bone in the bodies.
