Via ThinkProgress, here's a video of various media types telling their viewers that it's totally okay that Sarah Palin doesn't know what the Bush Doctrine is. Why is it okay? Because most Americans don't know what it is either! And they're right! In order for most Americans to know what is going on in the world, there would have to be some sort of public institution by which important facts would be systematically communicated to the general public, perhaps through an interconnected network of cathode ray tubes or something!

In other news, I took my car to get inspected Friday and was told I needed some sort of "tie rod end" replaced. Like most Americans, I didn't know what a "tie rod end" was, didn't see why I needed a wheel alignment on top of the repair, and certainly didn't see why I needed to pay two hundred and some-odd dollars to get it fixed! Sounded like it was just a way to get me to line the pockets of Big Auto Mechanic!

So I did what John McCain would do, with his War Heroism: I gave the dude who hangs out on the front stoop of the pawn shop across the street from my apartment fifty bucks to fix it. And he did! And I'm satisfied. Sure, the front quarter of the car now makes a grinding, keening noise that sounds like a quintet of robotic beagles being pummeled by meteors, but to me, that's just the sound of my freedom to tell elite know-it-alls to suck it. I think I know how to repair a car! I mean, from my land, I can see other cars!

Yes, I saw this over the past week after her interview and couldn't help but think: "well, sure many americans don't know what the Bush Doctrine is". BUT: a) we SHOULD, and b) a VP nominee most certainly SHOULD know what it is!

And here we go again with our corporate-owned media telling us that small things should be made into big things (lipstick), and big things should be minor things (a VP candidate not knowing what the Bush Doctrine is)...and we eat it up like sheep.

the thing is I don't think we all eat it up like sheep as you say but they know the ones that don't can't do anything about it. its like a 95lb man trying to talk smack to a 250lb man

I believe that even informed and attuned citizens may not have known the label put on Bush's idea of preemptive attacks, 'The Bush Doctrine' but we certainly knew what it is about. It's kind of silly in a way to dwell on this particular aspect of Palin but since the parts make up the whole, it is important to mention it to show the overall ignorance of this candidate for VP. The PUMAS are screaming sexism however, this criticism would apply to either male or female so their point is not valid. Robert Kennedy Jr has pointed out that she has quoted from fascist writer Westbrook Pegler, an avowed racist in one of her speeches. This is one candidate that our country does not need.

As a candidate for VP of the US, Palin should know what the Bush Doctrine is. This country is in big trouble and all the pundits care about is getting another Republican into the White House. I understand that the MSM is owned by corporations, but I can't understand how any self-respecting reporter would want to work for them. I couldn't go on TV day after day and lie, expecially when my lies might hurt my country. Republicans are the party of patriotism. Yeah, right!

Most Americans probably don't know that Afghanistan and Iraq don't share a border either, but if you are running for president, you should. The media are treating Palin like she's a finalist for American Idol instead of vice president. I have never been more disgusted with the mainstream media since the early days of Vietnam when they were all cheerleading for that war.

Many Americans don't know what the Bush Doctrine is. No kidding. Drill baby drill. Most people at the rink don't know, Mites, Squirts even at Bantam level. Thats why I don't want most Americans to be president or vice president.

Excellent point.
And if Mccain has his way, funding for education will decline as well, resulting in an even less informed electorate.

The media is determined that Palin/McCain will win this election. They have done the same think in the last 2 elections.

Palin gets a pass on everything. The double standard is so evident. Can you imagine if the Michelle Obama belonged to a political party that advocated seceding from the Union. And where's the endless loop of Palin's preacher? Where's the video of McCain ridiculing Obama about travel but his campaign lying about Palin visiting Ireland (later revealed to be a refueling stop) and that she was never in Iraq as initially claimed?

The greatest threat to our democracy is not terrorists, it's that we put our media in the hands of so few.

Yeah, and the double standard is democrat, republican and it all depends on who's news station they're on.

Well, if we are ever in need of fresh brains here in the United States, we will be just fine, because by my calculation we have about three quarters of the American people who regularly do not use theirs.

I have given up on the MSM with the exception of Keith Olbermann and Maddow. I now get my news from the internet. The MSM is totally biased in favor of McCain and Palin.

T
Poltical Barbie is a rabbit out of the hat distraction meant to keep us from talking about issues.

HUndreds of doctors and thousands of Americans are asking McCain to release his complete medical records. He scammed our media when he limited them to three hours in a closed room with no cell phones, no copying machines, nada.

McCain has a free get out of jail card he uses to guilt trip media baby boomers -- I was a Pow.You weren't.

Read the book: "Free Ride, McCain and the Media." Proof? Chris Matthews, who beat the hell out of Hillary, said (Rachel Maddow show ) the evening of the college forum:

"I can't say anything about McCain because he's a war hero and I've met him several times and he never said anything about my only serving in the Peace Corps."

When Maddow tried to rephrase her question, he cut her off at the knees.

See what another POW has to say about McCain:

The media needs to seriously do a better job than they have been and ignore the whiny, crybaby Mc campaign!! Sure, an average American may not know what the Bush Doctrine is, but are we all running for Vice President??? LUDICROUS!!! SHE IS A COMPLETE JOKE OF A CANDIDATE!!!

That is beautiful satire! A great analogy to the apologists for Palin's lack of knowledge. Thank you!

Yes - but Sarah Palin is running for Vice President - people in Missouri aren't.

However, I knew what the Bush Doctrine is - I watch the news.

John Fund was on Bill Maher this Friday saying that he'd looked back during the Democratic primaries and all of the questions on issues like this were prefaced with an explination because of course, regular people can't keep this stuff in their heads. They need a prompt and a reminder.

Of course the questions during debates are prefaced so that the viewing public understands what the hell the candidates are talking about!

It's a sad day watching these people defend this type of incompetence - it's worse than Bush, folks. Any decency that might have been lurking inside them at some point, has now gone out the window.

As a devoted viewer of Real Time, I saw Fund and was repulsed by his assertions. Just goes to show you what a conservative rag the Wall Street Journal is.

The so-called "Bush Doctrine" is just a cover for neoconservative ideology as outlined in the Project for a New American Century (PNAC). Palin should know it - McCain is a huge supporter of the PNAC.

On top of this Palin nonsense, the media has started to make it seem that both camps are equally responsible for these sleazy and false ads by Mccain and his camp. The media KNOWS we can't do anything than to stay in front of our screens and write, so they keep doing what they need to do to serve their own interests

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 10:35 AM on 09/15/2008

I agree.

Just calling McCain a liar (however unprecedentedly obvious McCain's lying really is) may backfire since the public may just get confused and think that it's a matter of he-said-she-said. It will just sound to wearied voters that both candidates are bickering--and then they'll vote for the white guy since he seems safer.

Instead, Obama's campaign should consider using the slogan: "Enough!" in addition to "Change." That way he looks like the rational adult--which he is--who is scolding the children who are clearly misbehaving without crawling in the mud with them. Year after year the candidate that best exemplifies that generation's conception of "The Father" wins.

It is also obvious that McCain 2008 is NOT McCain 2000. McCain 2000 may legitimately be called a Maverick, but McCain 2008 is simply a sad pawn of the religious right. "I knew McCain 2000, and McCain 2008, you are no McCain 2000."
