Via ThinkProgress, here's a video of various media types telling their viewers that it's totally okay that Sarah Palin doesn't know what the Bush Doctrine is. Why is it okay? Because most Americans don't know what it is either! And they're right! In order for most Americans to know what is going on in the world, there would have to be some sort of public institution by which important facts would be systematically communicated to the general public, perhaps through an interconnected network of cathode ray tubes or something!

In other news, I took my car to get inspected Friday and was told I needed some sort of "tie rod end" replaced. Like most Americans, I didn't know what a "tie rod end" was, didn't see why I needed a wheel alignment on top of the repair, and certainly didn't see why I needed to pay two hundred and some-odd dollars to get it fixed! Sounded like it was just a way to get me to line the pockets of Big Auto Mechanic!

So I did what John McCain would do, with his War Heroism: I gave the dude who hangs out on the front stoop of the pawn shop across the street from my apartment fifty bucks to fix it. And he did! And I'm satisfied. Sure, the front quarter of the car now makes a grinding, keening noise that sounds like a quintet of robotic beagles being pummeled by meteors, but to me, that's just the sound of my freedom to tell elite know-it-alls to suck it. I think I know how to repair a car! I mean, from my land, I can see other cars!

I expect presidential & vice-presidential candidates to have more knowledge and intelligence than me. I consider myself to be moderately informed about politics, and yet I still know what the Bush Doctrine is. Do we need another 4 years of voting in someone in the White House who we prefer to share a beer with, yet is clueless about issues that are important the people? The financial firms are tanking, the mortgage situation is worsening, gas and energy costs are skyrocketing, the environment is in crisis, our education system is deteriorating, jobs continue to be shipped abroad, and mom & pop stores can't compete with big box stores. And what is the media focusing on? Arguments on lipstick, mooseburgers, and feauting Palin with a rifle on the cover of Newsweek. This country is a shambles compared to where it was when Clinton left office in Jan 2001. The USA deserves somebody smart in the White House again, someone who is willing to fight to do the right thing for the people, and not for the special interest groups.

I used to kinda respect all these people that commented except the idiots from faux obviously. This argument that just because the average American doesn't know something mean its ok a VICE PRESIDENTIAL candidate shouldn't know has to be the most idiotic argument in the world. If Palin has learnt anything new about the American people it'll be that she too under-estimated the stupidity because if i give a performance like that I'll expect people to want to have my head

McCain displayed his lack of knowledge of the political structure of on of our greatest enemies-Axis of Evil Iran, when he said that Aberdinajad was the leader of Iran. WRONG BEEEEEP WRONG. His explanation was "if you ask the people of American who the leader is, they know" WRONG BEEEEP WRONG
Ali Khalmenei is the Supreme Leader of Iran

I knew they'd use that stupid "why should she know? most americans don't know!" line sooner or later. "most americans" are not running for the second highest office in the land with a running mate who could very well not complete his term, putting sarah "in what respect, charlie?" palin into the highest office. I, as the average american, should, but don't *need* to know, exactly what the bush doctrine is. she, on the other hand, absolutely does.

sorry, but again- I don't want ANYONE on the either ticket to be "just like me"- I want them to be far smarter.

So basically, it's OK that she's stupid because so is the rest of America?

We're stupid and proud of it and we want our leader to be even more stupid. Stupid is cool and smart is gay.

When I see stuff like this, it reminds of John Steward going on "Cross Fire" and telling the media that they're doing a disservice to the people of America. I remember him saying, "You're hurting America."

Anyone who was paying attention would have had at least a basic idea, if not a neat formulation, of what the Bush Doctrine is, because it was a completely new, unprecedented, direction for our foreign policy. Such a major change was much discussed and debated at the time, and you almost had to avoid reading newspapers or watching news shows to have missed it.

Do you mean "your with us or with the terrorists" or do you mean universal support for democracy Bush stated in his Second Inaugural? What the Bush Doctrine is depends on who you are talking to.

George Will's comment on This Week was brilliant. He basically said that there were several Bush Doctrines Charlie might have been asking about. But Sarah chose none of them. Her ignorance is incomprehensible. The fact that a major candidate for office is only going to do one interview during an election is insane. She is a prop and a robot and come that VP debate, everyone will know it.

Most Americans do not need to know the Bush Doctrine, but someone running for vice-president should know what the last President was up to.

Holding an elected official to the standards of knowledge that a private citizen has is ridiculous. If you go to an auto shop, you want the guy there to know more about your car than you do. You go to your elected executive officials, you want them to know more about diplomacy than you do. Period.

You can go to the site and see the pics of the rally and the signs.
‘Alaska Women Reject Palin’ Rally is HUGE!
14 09 2008
The rally was organized by a small group of women, talking over coffee. Never, have I seen anything like it in my 17 and a half years living in Anchorage. The organizers had someone walk the rally with a counter, and they clicked off well over 1400 people. This was the biggest political rally ever, in the history of the state. I was absolutely stunned. Here are what a few of the signs at the rally had to say….visit www.mudflats.wordpress.com to view the actual signage

“My Daughter Deserves Better”

“The Alaska Disasta”

“How’s that Abstinence Only Education Working For You Sarah?”

“Palin=Wrong Woman! Wrong Message!”

“Great performance SP, But we’re not that Stupid”

“Women Vote Issues Not Gender”

“Energy Debate Does Not Buy My Vote”

“Palin=’s GW Bush with Lipstick”

“We Love Alaska Not Palin”

“Born Again But Not For Palin”

“America Should Not Sleep If Palin is VEEP”
“We Can’t Bear
(photos of polar bears)
The Palin”

“Counttry First?
How Patriotic is Alaska Independence Party?”

“How Feminist Can She Be?” Anti Choice Anti –Same Sex benefits”

“Bush/Palin
Viagra= Yes
Birth Control=No”

“Issues Not A Uterus”

“Just a Pretty Face”

“I live Next To Russia Too, Can I be a VP?”

“Don’t Insult My Pit Bull”

Even I knew what it is! But how gullible are voters? Look at how people are energized by a fake governor (because she works part-time, staying at home 312 days out of 19 months but still earned full-time salary). McCain cheated voters by saying the title "governor" is enough whether a 670,000-person state has complex and diverse problems or issues to be tended to as in bigger states. To McCain, a manager of a 50-person company is the same as manager of a 10,000-person company. And Palin even admitted she doesn't pay any attention to national or international issues.
"DO WE WANT LIARS TO BE OUR PRESIDENT AND VICE-PRESIDENT? WILL OUR VETS AND ARMY BE PROUD WITH McCAIN-PALIN AS COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF?"

This arguement makes no sense whatsoever.

I wouldn't take a divorce lawyer to a murder trial, or ask an ambulance driver to perform open heart surgury. If I did, the results would belong solely to me, as I made the decision. Palin is the lowest possible form of 'bad decision' that anyone with a functioning brain could make.
