After a week given over to anticipation of the end of Sarah Palin's press freeze and breaking-news coverage of a colloquial phrase that Americans have used for generations, the Obama campaign will seek to set the agenda early in the week, with the candidate going on tomorrow's Good Morning America to talk economic issues with ABC's Andrew Cuomo.

OBAMA: "You would be hard-pressed to explain to me what John McCain's economic vision is about how he's gonna get this economy back on track. That, I believe, is somebody who is out of touch with what is -- should be the central question of this election."

Obama also commented on the McCain camp's continued obsession with the town hall meetings of yesteryear, calling the town hall idea, "a little bit of a gimmick":

OBAMA: "The reason that we're not talking about the issues doesn't have to do with the fact that we didn't have town halls. The reason that we're not talking about the issues is because John McCain has shown a lack of interest in talking about the issues. That's how their campaign's been run."

Finally, a response to this whole "Oh, well Obama didn't agree to town halls, so we can do and say whatever the hell we want" line from the McCain campaign! Keep the punches coming, Barack!

Obama/Biden '08 - The change we deserve.

McCain/Palin '08 - Thanks, but no thanks.

When you get one of those lesser government blabber mouths ask them how they feel about deregulation of he banking industry. Don't beat them up or tell them what to think, just ask them how they think it's worked out.

I saw this segment this morning on GMA. It was strong but would have been better still if Obama mentioned at least one specific economic policy he wants to adopt.

Roll 451 if you want specifics you are not going to get them in a 30 second sound bite. All you have to do is go to o's web site and print it out. And Wow.. there you have it. very specific, very informed.

Now do the same with the other guy and see what you get!

It was weird watching the GOP Convention and getting the feeling that we did have the three party system in the US after all. Us (the good guys), them (the Bush-currently-have-been-in-charge-for-a-while 'administration) and the gooder guys - the Republicans. It was quite clever really that the 'new' group of Republicans had nothing whatsoever to do with the current mess we're in and are now going to make sure that it's fixed. Yessirree! Yup.
And of course there's Phil Gramm going to really sort out the economy.
Time for the 'facts again'. People are truly worried even if they can't quite grasp the totality of the mess we have in the financial markets/institutions. I know I can't.
And makes, calls, donate, do whatever you can whenever you can! Write letters to the editor. This is the time to fight and really fight. Take no nonsense from anyone!

Yes, Phil Gramm will sort out the economy alright. Did you know he lobbied to kill help for families who are losing their homes to foreclosure? And that is just the beginning of the reach of the wicked hands. Of course, he thinks that you hard working Americans are a nation of whiners.

John McCain and the Republican party are the one responsible for the economy we have and there is not place to hide from this. This did not happen over night it start with Reagan trickle down policies and the Republican philosophy of pandering to big business you can not let the fox guard the hen house, deregulation is catching up with our economy. The Republican don't like to hear this but you can see the same pattern that happen in the 1918-1929 just look in any history book and you can read for ourselves. John McCain can say he not the same but that is BS it time to take our country back go vote. Obama 08

I went to the rally in Manchester, NH Saturday. One very important point was made. If we all give just 1 hour of our time to the Obama campaign before Nov 4th, we will take back the White House.

Go to www.barackobama.com. Donate what you can, if you can. Create an account. Everything is all setup right there for you on how to volunteer, where events are, etc. You can even setup your own personal phone bank with a few simple clicks. If you aren't registered to vote yet, you can register right there, it is one stop shopping. It is the perfect solution for those looking on how to get started supporting the campaign.

Sooner or later, Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson is going to have to come up with a different plan than the one he's currently following: trying not to let the passengers of the Good Ship USA notice that his plan to bail out all of the sickly financial organizations isn't working. Sooner or later, whoever's in charge is going to have to let the economy hit bottom.

You think voters are mad now? You haven't seen anything. And Bush and Cheney know that.

So I think the Bush administration is hoping to keep the markets stable until November 4. They're hoping the passengers won't push the current crew off the side of the Titanic and elect a new crew from the ship's passenger list. They're hoping that if they keep lighting up the sky with firecrackers over THERE or THERE or HERE -- we won't notice the way the ship is listing to the side, the way the water is pouring in the gaping holes just at the water line.

In other words, they're counting on us being Stuck On Stupid.

Speaking of November 4th, a woman in Texas voted in the 2004 election and had voted a straight Democratic ticket and discovered her ballot marked for Bush/Cheney for Prez/VP. Fortunately, she noticed it and was able to have it corrected. Snopes indicates it may have been a software design problem (sure like the W. Palm Beach ballot design problem), and it would be good to check your ballots when using the electronic machines before turning them in.

VFA,
Great stuff! I was immediately transported back to my Logic class in grad school--which should be a prequisite to vote in America. Rather than testing the stuffing out of kids without teaching them fundamentals, as has been yet another Bush Lazy Solution to a national crisis, (education), the infusion of critical thinking skills along with fundamental logic would go a long way to producing better informed citizens who don't then fall easy prey to Rovian layering of lies and lying denial of lies.

I spoke with folks in Nevada today. Numerous homes were divided. In one, for instance, there was an Independent, a Republican and a Democrat. (Only the Democrat wanted to talk!) The three issues most on Nevadans minds were Economy, Energy/Environment, (Yucca Mt.) and Immigration. On the economy. Obama wins hands down, as with energy. Nevadans seem to see through the drilling gimmick quite well--at least those whom I spoke with did.
One very engaging Hipanic voter said that Obama needs to speak more about immigration because Latinos feel the issue is important enough not to get lost in the mire of recent weeks. The sense I got was that the voters were frustrated with the tenor of the campaigning and have burning questions still unresolved. It was a bit of an eye-opener for me because in LA it seems most voters got the economy issue--due to the mortgage crash hitting hardest here--and simply want a Democrat, and ditto for energy and the environment. Obama will win huge here. Richardson is doing a good job with his base in New Mexico, as well. Nevadans love Harry Reid so let's hope they listen to their man!

I think hammering on the economy at a this juncture ( especially if it is deftly tied to the "4 more years of the same" theme ) is bound to gain traction. While i'm not exactly pleased at the meltdown the economy is suffering, perhaps it will provide a grim reminder to the electorate what their choice in November will truly mean.

We need out of this mess, and I believe the republicans do not provide a clear path. The last thing we need in a global economy is a further failed attempt at Reaganomics because what little money that does trickle down is going to trickle down in Bangalore, China and other burgeoning outsource markets.

Obama/Biden 08.

I agree. And Obama should add to his speech that if McCain isn't talking about the issues during his rallies or town hall meetings then people should walk away.

Im not sure issues mean anything as of Palens introduction and McCain's decision to fight under the race flag.Race (and gender)is being played by JM like at no other time since 1968.It has worked like a charm, reminding me of one of the reasons Ali, wouldnt get inducted by the army.He said no Viet Cong ever called me a N.When we lost white women,I believe it ended. Why would a black American even consider joining the US military or have any hope of social justice in light of this?I thought 85 to 90% were past race.I was wrong.

Bush's brother Neil was a director of the Silverado Savings and Loan in the late 80's. The failure of that bank cost the taxpayers $1 billion.

Lest we forget that McCain took "contributions" from Keating to pressure federal regulators to lay off Lincoln Savings. That eventually cost the taxpayers $3 billion.

Is there a pattern here or are we dealing with just a series of amazing coincidences?
