ST. CLAIR SHORES, Mich. — The once independent-minded John McCain has adopted the serve-the-rich policies of President Bush and the divisive tactics of ex-Bush strategist Karl Rove, Democratic vice presidential candidate Joe Biden said Monday during a campaign stop in Michigan.

Biden blamed the Bush administration for inaction in the face of sharp cuts in automotive jobs and said McCain, like Bush, was out of touch with the economic suffering of ordinary Americans.

Speaking to hundreds of people in a sweltering high school gym in the Detroit suburb of St. Clair Shores, Biden decried what he said was "a culture in Washington where the very few wealthy and powerful have a seat at the table and the rest of us are on the menu."

Biden said McCain's economic programs are virtual copies of those of the past eight years under Bush and said they serve the rich while ignoring ordinary Americans.

"If you're ready for four more years of George Bush, John McCain is your man," said Biden, who pointed out that George H.W. Bush was the 41st president and his son is the 43rd. McCain "could easily become known as Bush 44."

"John McCain stands with George Bush firmly in the corner of the wealthy and well-connected," Biden said. "He stands with the oil company CEOs who swore to me, under penalty of perjury, that they didn't need tax breaks to explore for oil."

Republican spokesman Chris Taylor said Obama and Biden would damage the economy with higher taxes.

"Michiganders have seen what Democrat-led taxes can do to a local economy," he said.

Biden also criticized the negative tone of McCain's campaign.

"The campaign a person runs says everything about the way they'll govern," Biden said at South Lake High School. "John McCain has decided to bet the house on the politics perfected by Karl Rove."

Biden was referring to a series of attack ads from the McCain campaign as well as misstatements that the Republican presidential candidate and running mate Sarah Palin have continued to repeat after they were debunked. Barack Obama's campaign particularly bristled at an ad suggesting the Democratic nominee favored teaching kindergartners about sex before reading, based on a bill he supported that would teach age-appropriate sex education to those kids and help them ward off sexual predators.

McCain "is now launching a low blow a day," Biden said.

Despite his reputation for bare-knuckle politics, Rove said Sunday that both sides are being too negative and McCain has gone "one step too far" in showing ads that are not true.

Biden said he came to McCain's defense in 2000 when the Republican came under attack from Bush operatives and supporters who spread "scurrilous" rumors about him in the primary campaign. "And now, some of the very same people and the tactics he once deplored, his campaign now employs."

McCain spokeswoman Sarah Lenti disputed Biden's comments. She said Obama and Biden are the most partisan presidential ticket in modern history.

Later Monday, Biden toured a Mazda-Ford joint auto assembly plant in Flat Rock, where he shook hands with blue-collar workers and managers and told them the auto industry is crucial to America's economic future.

"The management, the rank-and-file workers _ this is what built the middle class in America. We let these jobs go, well, shame on us. Shame on us," he said.

He also stopped to rev the engine of a bright red Ford Shelby convertible to a round of applause from watching workers.

Joe Biden's speeches have been inspiring. I want to know why the media isn't covering him more? I am sick of Palin and all her scandals.

Please let me know how in the hell you are managing to HEAR any of Biden's speeches.

I can't find more than a few lines during the day on the cable news networks.

I've been checking C-Span 1 and 2 in the middle of the night and all I find are obscure congressional committees (I thought they used to do presidential campaign speeches nightly - like back when Clinton was running in 1992. What happened?).

Advice?? Thanks!

Hey, Biden is back! His big speech in front of 2 hundred people in Michigan is really going to sway some voters. Barry, this is the best you could find for VP? Is this an indication of your decision making skills? Your first big decision Mr. Obama, and you blow it big time.

Why not send Joe Biden to Alaska!

Taking the fight to Palins home turf and it would get Senator Biden some serious media attention.

Given the recent Palin protest and the comments in the Anchorage paper, it seems to me that Alaskans are becoming increasingly dubious and disenchanted with Palin/McCain.

Alaskan Obama supporters and other Palin realists deserve some encouragement, support and attention! A groundswell of vocal opposition to Palin in Alaska could significantly help undermine her national appeal and the McCain/Palin ticket.

Let Biden do an Alaskan rally!

McCain was one of two Republican senators to vote against a $1.35 trillion tax cut that Bush proposed in 2001. McCain also voted against similar plans in 2003, as well as a proposed repeal of the federal estate tax. McCain said they disproportionately benefited the wealthy.

Is this really a "carbon-copy" of the Bush policies? If it is, then I don't know what a carbon-copy is. Go back to the alleged "Change" theme with your 35 year Washington insider.

And now 2008 McSame supports the very same income tax measure he voted against in 2001.

He's a hypocrite plain and simple.

That was then, this is now. McCain has flip-flopped on every issue that he was against. He has sold his political soul to the devil Bush and the right wing neo cons. He is no longer the man he used to be and that is scary. He will do anything to win the election. Vote Obama.

Not only is he now in favor of those tax cuts, he says he will vote against an immigration bill he, himself, sponsored - get it now.

Remember when McCain used to be against torture because he was living proof of the effects of torture? He folded on that one too, just to convince the party that he was one of them and deserving of their nomination, not to help us gain useful information by physically abusing someone until they'd confess to crucifying Christ if it would make the pain stop. If he folded on torture then his principles must be for sale to whoever can give him power. And I digress but where are his medical records? A Sarah Palin presidency is a frightening and embarassing thought and McCain, frankly, does not look in good health. I'm sorry Pulemerci but I'll take a 35 year insider over a small state (population wise) governor of less than two years. Especially one that tries to tell us that what God wants is what she wants and God wants us to drill, it's his will. If you talk to God you're devout. If God talks to you, seek help.

" but I'll take a 35 year insider over a small state (population wise) governor of less than two years."

How about a real hero and legislator who crossed the aisle many times and actually had legislation significant legislation passed. Please name one of Obama's bills or his crossing the aisle to achieve significant legislation (I know he's only been in the Senate for 143 days before he started running for POTUS).

As for God, I know for liberals this is a touchy subject (they usually only approve of the subject in public if it's a tax-payer funded art show depicting a crucifix in urine). Most Americans do believe in God, in fact, look for a lot to come out of the woodwork this election for McCain and Palin just like they did for President Bush in 2004 (more votes than any President in history thanks to the Evangelicals).

NEWSFLASH - In yesterday's stump speech in Orlando, the television proved McCain's BUSH allegiance!!

On the front row in the audience (as seen on tv) were JEB BUSH, Mel MARTINEZ (appointed to HUD by Bush) and Governor Charlie CRIST, (the adopted BUSH brother -think Robert Duvall in the Godfather movie)

How can McCain claim 'change'?

I'm glad someone else noticed them all sitting there too.

It was like seeing the cast of Epic Movie 2: Repugs in the land of delusion (Narnia).

So has McCain been partying with cons lately?

The photograph substantiates reports that in late August, 2006, McCain celebrated his 70th birthday aboard a yacht, the Celine Ashley, rented by A-list con man Raffaello Follieri and his then-movie star girlfriend Anne Hathaway

I'm watching Television at the Moment, and the talking Heads-Republicans are Scared this Morning!

They don't like the new Democratic Ad about Fundamentals, and they can't even figure out what to say about The Obama-Supporters talking/showing others what they think about Republicans & their ideas, while at Sen.Bidens political rally Yesterday.

Good Job People, now the Democrats & Obama-Biden are putting out a Message that will be Very Hard to rebuke!

Thank You!

The fundamentals are what the Republicans have been trying to destroy for the past eight years under the euphemism "ownership society." Read Bob Herbert's column in the NY Times today about McCain's proposal to in effect do away with employer-sponsored health insurance and get rid of "burdensome" regulation of the health care market. There they go again.

It's another move too add another part of Life into the dangerous/risky relm of the Stock Market...

Don't get Me wrong, I LOVE the Stock Market, and I would Love too invest, however un-like the Republicans I rather invest My own Money/risk, not the Money of Our Health-Care and everything else that other People will need for the rest of their Lives!

It's like they don't know; what gos up, must go down!
