Chicago's Cost-Cutting Ideas

If too many cooks spoil the broth, the solution to Chicago's budget crisis will be one spoiled stew.

Aldermen, union leaders and civic watchdogs are tripping over themselves to make suggestions on how to erase a $420 million budget shortfall that threatens to trigger well over 1,000 layoffs.

Here are some of the ideas floated so far in addition to the unpaid furlough days and deferred pay raises being mulled by city unions:
