Reuters:

ISLAMABAD - Firing by Pakistani troops forced two U.S. military helicopters to turn back to Afghanistan after they crossed into Pakistani territory early on Monday, Pakistani security officials said.

The incident took place near Angor Adda, a village in the tribal region of South Waziristan where U.S. commandos in helicopters raided a suspected al Qaeda and Taliban camp earlier this month.

"The U.S. choppers came into Pakistan by just 100 to 150 meters at Angor Adda. Even then our troops did not spare them, opened fire on them and they turned away," said one security official.

The U.S. and Pakistani military both denied that account, but Angor Adda villagers and officials supported it.

Putin: U.S. spurred on Georgian offensive

"They pushed [Georgia"s President Mikheil] Saakashvili into this criminal aggression," said Mr. Putin, adding: "They [the U.S.] have come to like firing and bombing so much that they thought it would work here [in Georgia] too. But if it did not work in Afghanistan, Iraq or the Middle East [West Asia], why did they think it would work this time around? They failed, and will fail in future too, if they think this [war] is the most effective instrument of foreign policy."

We care and we are a majority. But will law and order prevail?
Or we go down like so many empires have fallen?

We will rise again. We are America. We have fought wars before and this won't be the last one. Unfortunately. The passion in America is still strong. It always will be.

I dont know why this is news. A huge swathe of the Pakistani military elite have always been anti-US and many former Pakistani army officers are actively involved in the training and arming of anti-US forces on the Afghan-Pakistani border. Many are even actually involved in actual operations against the US.

It is news because it informs the puplic about what's going on.
Secondly, the US has given Pakistan billions of dollars of tax money (actually loans to be payed back with tax from our children) to be used (supposedly) in the war on terroriosm. The Pakistanis use the money to build and buy arms for use along the border with India, whom the US is helping with nuclear arms. Seems to make little sense.
Well, other country's alliances with the US seem to be self-serving. I mean, it was Pakistani and Saudi Arabia's people who attacked us on 911. But they are regarded as our allies.
So much for US foreign policy and consistency.

All I know at this point is that the US lacks in leadership, which is driving the war machine - gone mad!
We should change our country's name to "War Incorporated" if McCain gets in.
We need real CHANGE - FAST!

Palin was asked if she approved of American troops crossing the Pakistani border without permission to chase "terrorists. Her apply was that she would approve without the permission of the Pakistani government. The next day in our local paper was a reply that the Pakistanis would no longer cooperate with the US if their sovereignty were breached and their borders crossed by the US if they entered the country. She doesn't know the landscape from the geography.

War sucks - are you going to pay for it, or do you expect others to suffer the calamity you so easily punctuate?

Wars are for suckers who don't know how to work things out diplomatically. Violence was never an answer for any arguement of any kind. It is a reactive emotion that should not exist. Some day this world will realize that being calm and rational is the power over physical pain and the abuse of government over its people.

Hello horrible headliner writer! I see you're back!

Actually the story is that the Pentagon DENIES that this happened. Did you read the article before linking to it??

Which do you believe: the US and Pakistani military or the Angor Adda villagers' and officials' lying eyes? The headline was right on.

I agree I don't like the headline

It sounds like the Pakistanis are the aggressors the way its written when clearly the United States was attacking Pakistan and they were just defending their country

What's going on here, Since when did we become Pakistans enemy.
This is like a world gone mad. Even if our pilot did make a mistake
when they recognized the helicopter was an American plane why fire
on us. I think if I were Mr. Bush I would want to get to the bottom
of this. Can we trust ( you) pakistan or not.

Wait a minute. You are assuming way to much when you talk about mistakes. The US has struck inside Pakistan with missles before. What we are reying on for information about this apparent incursion is the same media that gets information from the Bush administration - and says official sources. But time and time again we are misled( lied to). Perception, not reality , is what the Neocons regard as gold in America. Truth takes a back seat to anything else - including illegal and unjustified war!
Pakistan and Saudi Arabia harbored ALL the "terrorists" who were responsible for 911. Allies and enemies are transient upon payment!

Another triumph for the Bush foreign policy team.

Unfortunately Musharrif played Bush/Cheney like a fiddle for the past 7 years. Pretended to help out on the war on Terror, while in actuality collecting American weapons to be used against India. And perhaps even hiding and supporting Osama Bin Ladin.

As well as making trouble in Kashmir.

The new government of Pakistan has to make noises about protecting their sovereignty, no matter their real feelings about either the USA or th terrorists sponsors.

The USA must be very careful and discreet in their dealings with Pakistan. They must play a subtle game.

Which, of course neither George W. Bush/Cheney or John McCain are capable of.

We can only hope that President Obama has the intelligence and judgment to be able to walk that fine line in dealing with Pakistan. But of course he has a huge advantage.

He is not George W. Bush/Cheney or Bush lite, McCain.

The people of that region are even more sick and tired of those fools than we are here in the USA.
