Reuters:

ISLAMABAD - Firing by Pakistani troops forced two U.S. military helicopters to turn back to Afghanistan after they crossed into Pakistani territory early on Monday, Pakistani security officials said.

The incident took place near Angor Adda, a village in the tribal region of South Waziristan where U.S. commandos in helicopters raided a suspected al Qaeda and Taliban camp earlier this month.

"The U.S. choppers came into Pakistan by just 100 to 150 meters at Angor Adda. Even then our troops did not spare them, opened fire on them and they turned away," said one security official.

The U.S. and Pakistani military both denied that account, but Angor Adda villagers and officials supported it.

What would we do if a Pakistani helicopter invaded our air space?

The chess game continues. Why are "russian" transports unloading U.S. battle tanks in southern afghanistan when it's been proven they're useless in the mountains? We're going to war (again) folks. And you can probably guess with who.

Let's put Sarah Palin in a bikini on a helicopter with a sniper rifle, we'll be fine.

They did accept Benazir Bhuto for a while. No leadership seems to last long in Pakistan though.

Perhaps we are not paying them enough to shoot at the Taliban and not shoot at us. That drug trade must be generating some serious money if they can outbid us.

First thought:
Reminds me of Vietnam.
At some point in every evil plan, the tide will turn.

Do you think they were using the weapons we paid for? Now the Bush Administration has made a deal to sell the Iraq's the Abrams tank, I wonder is he has forgotten that the Abram's armor is classified and it is shared with Great Britton who invented it, Germany, and Israel. Sounds like a plan to me.

Well, so much for going after islamo-fascist terrorists in Pakistan. Funny how things change with new governments.

They act like they are but, their really not on our side. Sarah Palin is delusional to think Pakistan would help us. She made the statement in the Gibson interview. I'm sure Pakistan will work with us to go into their mountains and pluck out Osama Bin Laden. Pakastani's hate Americans.
Why haven't they already plucked him out of their mountains???

A U. S. ally firing on U. S. helicopters? A non-story?

Who ever thought that the Pakistanis are our ally. By the way boys remember that Obama was the first to enuciate going after the Taliban into Pakistan.

Another GOP 3D (deny, deceive, deflect) message.

One way to deflect an embarrassing story is to concentrate on one minor aspect of it and quibble over it.

The fact that the incident took place a few yar4ds into Pakistani territory isn't the big issue. the big issue is that Pakistani forces fired on a U. S. aircraft in anger.

The ISI and the Taliban have worked with each other there for years.

As long as we bribed the Pakistani Regime, they would "promise" to hunt for the Taliban and bin Laden. This has worked well for the Military Industrial Complex who needed boogiemen, and quite well for the Pakistani MIlitary who pocketed much of the money. Completing the trifecta, the Taliban/al Qaeda/bin Laden probably shared in some of our largess, plus had a safe haven.

We aren't so welcome when we show up with our gunships and drones, though. It means we don't like the return on our investment, or need to put on a show before the election, or both.

A generalization at best with no merit.

Sovereign countries tend to look not very kindly on non-approved incursions by foreign forces into their territory. And for good reason.

I hope we aren't seeing the Cambodianization of the Afghan war, but it appears that is precisely what Bush has in mind since his Secretary of State doesn't have the diplomatic skills to bring us into the kind of cooperation with the Pakistanis that would root out the terrorists in the mountains of that country while avoiding embarrassments such as this one.

Don't worry. It is just reflective of our society's ongoing polite tolerance of crackpot beliefs rooted in ancient and Dark Ages mysticism. Such politeness can't really do any harm can it? Oh wait...
