ProPublica:

Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin has portrayed herself as a foe of pork-barrel spending, pointing in particular to her role in killing the $398 million "Bridge to Nowhere" between Ketchikan (pop. 7,400) and its airport on Gravina Island (pop. 50). I "told the Congress, 'Thanks, but no thanks,'" she said in her speech accepting the Republican vice presidential nomination. "If our state wanted to build a bridge, we were going to build it ourselves."

But Gov. Palin's administration acknowledges that it is still pursuing a project that would link Ketchikan to its airport -- with the help of as much as $73 million in federal funds earmarked by Congress for the original project.

For heaven's sakes. Let's just remove Alaska as a statehood. Let them go it on their own. Does anyone thing that the rest of the 49 states will flounder without Alaska?

Isn't that what they want anyway? Let Palin be their President/Queen/Regent, whatever they want to call her (I can think of some pretty ripe names to call her!!).

At this point, Alaska is exactly what it was called in it's early days - Seward's Folly!!

I wonder if Abe Lincoln were alive today if he would look at this and think that the union was worth saving? I wonder if the founding fathers would have bothered to fight the British if they had a glimpse of what the United States would eventually become?

i also am disillusioned with just HOW Ohio and Florida are 'fixing' their problems and how slow they've been.
i'd much prefer we 'ground' them and carry on without those 2 states.
those ruining the elections there should get punished along with those they are cheating out of a vote.
seems a simpler more fool proof solution to a complex problem.
see "Uncounted".

What does the McMock campaign say about this revelation? S. Surrogate should come clean and let folks know she is an opportunist looking to move up without any qualification and McMock is willing to use her to get what he wants as a cap for his lack luster career. Please, this man has no plan for America nor does he care. He is rich beyond his means and doesn't need Americans to keep what he has with his wife. They will clean up on the AB deal and has the flexibility to live anywhere insulated from the hardship released on this society. Help us stop this foolishness vote B. Obama.

There is hope. A huge ad hoc anti-Palin rally drew half again as much as the professionally organized pro-Palin send off in Anchorage Saturday. Read about it on:

http://mudflats.wordpress.com/2008/09/14/alaska-women-reject-palin-rally-is-huge/

With this inspiration some more demonstrations show signs of springing up all over the US.
Thank you to the 10 Anchorage women who dreamed this up last week over coffee and kept going despite threats (yes threats) from a local right wing radio jock and his listeners. This is just too important to let slide this year. We all need to pitch in.

I agree that FL ond OH need to step up and not do this again. However, I don't think insulting them is going to get them to do the right thing. The point is, voting for John McCain is voting against everyone who makes less that $5millions self interest. Since that is most of us, let's figure out how to explain this to people instead of ticking them off.

The Bridge to Nowhere is a good theme for the McCain campaign. Kind of like Bill Clinton's bridge to the 21st Century, except it leads nowhere. That sounds a lot like McCain: He claims to oppose Bush policies that he largely voted for, voted against his own immigration bill, and fails to follow the campaign reforms that bear his name--and at the same time offers no solutions for getting out of the Iraq War, reducing the national debt, repairing the damage to our global alliances, fixing the economy, or improving our dismal healthcare system.

In short, McCain opposes the past, ignores the present and offers no strategy for change. Where does he want to lead us? Nowhere.

This is pathetic. Why are white women putting their fingers in their ears and covering thier eyes when it comes to Palin. Obama has never been under any investigations for anything illegal or unethical and both Palin and McCain have been. No matter what comes out about Palin these people will make excuses for her and still pull that lever for that ticket. I am starting to realize that the ONLY thing McCain has going for himself is that Obama is black. Period and I am tired of people trying to deny it. Anytime a "Christian" can make excuses for lies, adultery, ethic investigatings, teen pregnancy, but blame Obama for Rev. Wright and not hold Palin accountable for the things SHE said out of her own mouth at her church, it is beyond hyprocrisy.

Exactly.. They make O responsible for something other people say. BUT Palin is not held responsible for things that SHE says out of her own mouth, nor is she held responsible for the things SHE has done and all the lies she continue to tell.
