Palin Tanning Bed

Al Giordano of Narco News first reported that Sarah Palin has a tanning bed installed in the Alaska Governor's Mansion:

"The governor did have a tanning bed put in the Governor's Mansion," Roger Wetherell, chief communications officer of Alaska's Department of Transportation and Public Facilities, confirmed to this newspaper. "It was done shortly after she took office [in early 2007] and moved into the mansion."

Ben Smith of the Politico confirmed the report.

"She paid for it with her own money," Wetherell told Smith in an email.

UPDATE: US Weekly has more:

According to Wetherell, the tanning bed was purchased used, from a health club.

Tanning beds can cost up to $35,000 to install in a home - not including the cost of parts, Color Me Tan manager Erin Weise told the Narco News.

"I don't think it's normal for people to have a tanning bed in their house, " Wiese, who is based in Fairbanks said. "It's expensive."

Palin's running mate, presidential candidate John McCain battled skin cancer in 1993, and again in 2000.

"I coat SPF 30 on myself first thing in the morning, and wear long sleeves and a hat whenever I'm in the sun," McCain has told Newsweek.

Palin declared May 2007, "Skin Cancer Awareness Month." In the press materials it was noted, "Skin cancer is caused, overwhelmingly, by over-exposure to ultraviolet radiation from the sun and from tanning beds."

Remember when Edwards got called out for that $400 haircut. Remember what fun you wingnuts had talking about that endlessly instead of the issues.

Ah, good times.

But hey, I wouldn't worry. The American public won't be interested in how Caribou Barbie wasted resources on a tanning bed in the governor's mansion. Just keep telling yourself that.

$1,200.00 haircut; all the while denigrating all of those "rich" Republicans who are SO out of touch with the "common" man.

Ah, how the mighty have fallen.

Where is Edwards lately anyway? I miss him, he was loads of laughs.

Whaddya know - what goes around, comes around.

Did you know that McCain says he invented the cellphone and wifi?

"Under my guiding hand, Congress developed a wireless spectrum policy that spurred the rapid rise of mobile phones and Wi-Fi technology that enables Americans to surf the web while sitting at a coffee shop, airport lounge, or public park."

Do you know what the wireless spectrum is? Do you doubt that McCain had a hand in defining the policy?

Not as elite as someone who has a 200-bottle wine cellar in his Chicago mansion.

Actually, tanning beds are hardly elite. The real elite don't use tanning beds. They get their tans from sunbathing at the Hamptons or on the Riviera.

The VPs job varies widely from President to President. Under FDR, the VP did virtually nothing. Under Bush, the VP runs the country.

Did she sell the tanning bed on e-bay too?

"She paid for it with her own money," Wetherell told Smith in an email.
I don't trust this statement. Because Ms. Palin claimed per diem expenses for meals eaten at home, she has displayed confusion about what "her own money" is.
She has no sense of appropriate boundaries- she fires people for personal reasons and according to her personal taste, and she hires her friends for state jobs regardless of their qualifications.
She is unfit for public office- all of the scandals that have come to light demonstrate that she shouldn't be Vice President, and she should be impeached as govenor as well. She needs years and years of therapy to understand what appropriate personal and professional boundaries are.
McCain has displayed a serious lack of judgement in choosing her. If the majority of American people have any sense at all, this election should end with an Obama/Biden landslide.

Office holders -- and all people who run departments in the corporate world -- do this all the time.

So we fire the chef, sold the plane on ebay, and installed a tanning bed! Now that's government reform!

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 11:14 AM on 09/16/2008

The people of Alaska were paying for the chef. They didn't pay for the tanning bed. This whole issue falls under "who gives a crap."

“Life Begins At Conception” – Joe “Plugs” Biden - Meet the Press

Seems as if Biden, McCain and Palin are the “mainstream” and Obama is the radical.

Oh Dear!

Maybe Obama will appoint Lindsay Lohan and Pamela Anderson as Chief of Staff and Secretary of State?

You fail to mention that Biden also said on Meet the Press, that those were his own personal beliefs and that the Government has no right to tell anyone else what to believe. He believes in the separation of church and state and tolerance for all religions.

Huffpost and Keith Olbermann jump the shark on this one. A tanning bed. Really. That's what you're concerned about? I love liberals - they make me laugh. Alot. Hearing Olbermann try to ask some analyst last night about the tanning bed was perhaps the funniest thing I've seen in months.

I'll agree the left has a legit beef with her experience level, just as the right has a massive beef with Obama's experience (besides giving speeches, one middle east tour and running a campaign - which has zero relvance to being president due to the different goals of the positions). But attacking her on the tanning bed is just so petty that its comical.

Its like McCain and the kindergarten sex ed. commercial - too much of a stretch to be useful. Obama's got alot more weaknesses (no executive or relevant foreign policy experience whatsoever) that McCain should be going after.

I have yet to hear Barack Obama say one word about Sarah Palin's tanning bed. On the other hand, at the end of the kindergarten sex ed. commercial, I distinctly heard John McCain say, "I approved this message." There's a difference between what candidates are responsible for and what the news media comes up with on their own. Is Obama also supposed to be responsible for the National Enquirer's headlines?

I agree. I didn't think we could have a less substantive election campaign than 2004 but McCain and Obama have given us one. Unfortunately, neither Democrats nor Republicans want anything more. They are both way to satisfied with their empty-headed candidates.

I'm sure she justifies it by saying at least it wasn't an earmark.
