I Like ItI Don’t Like It
Revolt

David Brooks writes in the New York Times that Sarah Palin is unqualified:

In the current Weekly Standard, Steven Hayward argues that the nation's founders wanted uncertified citizens to hold the highest offices in the land. They did not believe in a separate class of professional executives. They wanted rough and rooted people like Palin.

I would have more sympathy for this view if I hadn't just lived through the last eight years. For if the Bush administration was anything, it was the anti-establishment attitude put into executive practice.

And the problem with this attitude is that, especially in his first term, it made Bush inept at governance. It turns out that governance, the creation and execution of policy, is hard. It requires acquired skills. Most of all, it requires prudence.

...

Sarah Palin has many virtues. If you wanted someone to destroy a corrupt establishment, she'd be your woman. But the constructive act of governance is another matter. She has not been engaged in national issues, does not have a repertoire of historic patterns and, like President Bush, she seems to compensate for her lack of experience with brashness and excessive decisiveness.

Ross Douthat agrees at the Atlantic:

Now that we've seen the entirety of the Palin-Gibson tete-a-tete, I concur with Rich Lowry and Rod Dreher. The most that can be said in her defense is that she kept her cool and avoided any brutal gaffes; other than that, she seemed about an inch deep on every issue outside her comfort zone. Yes, the questions were tougher than the ones that a Tim Kaine or Tim Pawlenty probably would have been handed, but they were all questions that a vice-presidential nominee needs to be able to answer. And there's no way to look at her performance as anything save supporting evidence for the non-hysterical critique of her candidacy - that it's just too much, too soon - and a splash of cold water for those of us with high hopes for her future on the national stage.

And in the Washington Post, Richard Cohen goes off on McCain, seizing on the Palin pick as a sign of how far gone the candidate is:

McCain has turned ugly. His dishonesty would be unacceptable in any politician, but McCain has always set his own bar higher than most. He has contempt for most of his colleagues for that very reason: They lie. He tells the truth. He internalizes the code of the McCains -- his grandfather, his father: both admirals of the shining sea. He serves his country differently, that's all -- but just as honorably. No more, though.

...

His opportunistic and irresponsible choice of Sarah Palin as his political heir -- the person in whose hands he would leave the country -- is a form of personal treason, a betrayal of all he once stood for. Palin, no matter what her other attributes, is shockingly unprepared to become president. McCain knows that. He means to win, which is all right; he means to win at all costs, which is not.

Every time someone tries to knock Palin on her experience.....

It just reminds us how PALIN has MORE EXPERIENCE THAN OBAMA.

Thanks for the reminder.....we will vote for the MOST EXPERIENCED Candidate....McCaine

Actually, that's the best name for the Republican ticket. You know, that high you feel when you first take a hit, then the hard crash. Now, all they have to do is pick someone like Keanu Reeves as Secretary if State to get that McCaine high going again.

whoa...

Isn't it so cute, the way Sarah Palin says "Freddie" and "Fannie?" Maybe I will vote for McCain/Palin after all. (Not!)

I remember that Palin's 'experience' includes choosing an ex-oil company lobbyist to be her lieutenant governor. She also slashed state funding for green and renewable energy projects, including wind and solar.

Reagan: two terms as governor of California. Palin: two years as governor of Alaska.

Obama: seven years as a state legislator, two years in national office.

Please do some homework. There is a vast difference in kinds of experience.

Palin is not fit to be president. And she may become president if McCain, who is not well, dies in office. If that doesn't scare you, it does this military veteran.

Before you vote for someone to be the next President of this country, shouldn't you at least know how to spell their name?

It's McCain -- NOT "McCaine."

I believe this says it all!

P.S. Obama has been a State Senator and IS a Unired States Senator. Hasn't McCain been a U.S. Senator for the passed 26 years? Also, Obama has been campaiging for President 16 months; and won the democratic presidential nomination against one of the most well known and politically savvy opponents -- Hillary Clinton. Obama has been through dozens of debates, town hall meetings, news
interviews, etc.

What has Sarah Palin done? She governs a state the size of my COUNTY, and gave ONE interview. Sorry, I don't count Sean Hannity as a reliable news source. She won't even take questions from reporters; and when she does speak it's ALWAYS SCRIPTED!

Sarah Palin lies, just as McCain does. Her beliefs -- frightening! Her knowledge -- or lack thereof, very frightening! McCain is not qualified to be president (or senator for that matter). Bush was a disaster, has gotten our country to the brink of complete chaos and shame. Who the heck wants more of this type of government?!! Experience ... what kind of experience ... what has that person accomplished [McCain] in his 26 years in Washington? His wife became a drug addict and he didn't notice?!! This man notices very little. His experience: "The Keating Five" . We need intelligence, judgment, HONESTY, accomplishment ... in short WE NEED the smart one this time -- Barack Obama!

Palin may need polishing, but she's better than McCain. Biden is better experienced than Obama. Weird.
Huckabee was my candidate. Experience, decency, new ideas, and humor. I expect he might run in 2012 if there IS a 2012. At the rate we're going will there be an election in 2012?

Americans voting for McCain are far from enamored with Obama, how you feel about Palin does not bother us one iota. Remember though, that Palin was NEVER given a chance. She was forced to come out under vicious attack. Furthermore Palin is a Governor of a state and has been active in public executive office for many years. She has a high approval rating and has been effective at working on a bipartisan basis so as to get public projects accomplished.

Some how the folks that tell themselves "country first", seem to buy into the argument that "executive experience" means being a PTA mom, being a mayor of a town of 9,000 people, or for that matter being a Governor of a state with a population of 683,000 people. Palin left the city of Wasilla in debt and in lawsuits over her big acomplishment; a hockey rink. Sure she worked on a natural gas pipeline and oil issues. You certainly would too if it met that the people that would be voting for you would recieve an even LARGER check every year that they would attribute to you. If Palin is so concerned about energy issues, why doesn't she prevail on McCain to kick back a check to ALL Americans (meaning us in the lower 49 and Hawaii) as a tax on natural resources taken from our land. Make no mistake, her approval rating would plummet if the checks started to dry up.

If Palin wants to help run the country, she should be open to scrutiny. She doesn't need to be "given a chance". Her past and her record are speaking for her, as well as her lack of knowledge. If you look at the latest information regarding her record, you will find that she did a horrible job as mayor, and just as bad as governor.

Hmmm..

Is that why Alaskans are coming out of the woodwork to tell what a bad administrator she is?
Or how she made women pay for their own rape forensic kits (used in hospitals to retain medical evidence that can be used to find and prosecute the rapist?)
And now says (third different reason so far) that she fired her safety commissioner because he was trying to get more money for rape cases -- because Alaska has the highest number of rapes in our country?
Or why Alaskan women demonstrated against her nomination?

But liberals are wrong. She has been vetted. Check out the video below.

"She has a high approval rating..." is a total lie and falsehood, orangepetal. Just the other day there was a HUGE rally of ALASKANS protesting against Palin! At this HUGE rally, the people were saying that they wanted the rest of America to know that THEY DO NOT APPROVE OF PALIN as their governor or as a VP, and that she does NOT speak for them one iota; that they are voting for Obama/Biden instead. Same thing happened years ago with Texans who protested against Bush... they rallied against voting for Bush because they wanted the rest of our country to know they were totally against him as their former governor and that they were WARNING Americans NOT to vote for Bush. Unfortunately nobody listened to those Texans. And nobody is listening to the Alaskans protesting against Palin now.

Excellent analogy. Unfortunately, it's very true. Imagine if Obama did ONE of the negative things Palin did as Mayor, or came out of his mouth like McCane did last night regarding Spain, he would be dogged endlessly.

I pray that enough of us show a modicum of common sense on election day to get Obama/Biden over the top.

Uh,exactly when/where did Barack Obama get International experience? Was it his big catch up International celebrity trip recently? And his experience with the economy? His "talk" - not plan - has not yet impressed any economists - but granted he could say anything and the biased political media would gobble it up, of course!

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 02:50 AM on 09/18/2008

Yet McCain wants to take it to a commission that will research it for the next 3-4 years. Yeah, that is real leadership and gives me a lot of confidence that he has a plan. Hmm. I think I'll go with the Obama plan that he layed out with specifics today in Las Vegas. 5 million jobs that will build on energy independence (the IT of the millenium) and get Americans back to work so they can start paying for their homes and helping businesses grow again, tax cuts for middle class Americans (3x more than McCain/Bush). More regulation on companies so they don't fib the books and commit fraud.

I like the fact that Obama has a plan and it sounds better than what we've got now and McCain's no plan- plan.

One thing I do admire about Obama - but once laughed - joked about in early on comments when the subject was experience or the "lack" of it. He has about 300 advisers. (Few women - FYI and he's not paying equal wages to women either - even though it's one of his promises) But back to the positive - one can look at 300 advisers as someone doing a lot of "catch up" and "cramming" which is true - he does lack experience......but one can also think of it as a positive; it's basically participative management - and for one, do like that approach - especially considering Bush has been a fascist for the last 8 years. Which is also why I'm not Palinoid about Sarah Palin either - she's being methodical about her approach to talking to the press. She's also got a lot of catching up to do. If you've done any research on her with an open mind - you'd see that she is a PRETTY smart woman and a darned good manager! And she's frugal. She likes to focus on issues that benefit "We the People." Yes, even in her Wildlife Management! Do your own research and travel to understand.

lavisiter: if you were to examine the international experience of the recent past POTUS you'd find most had little if any: Reagan, Clinton, W are prime examples so that dog don't hunt honey. Have you bothered to even read Senator Obama's economic plan? Of course not. It is much easier to spew the FAUX News POV. No wonder the country is spiraling; its citizens have stopped thinking critically. Given the current economic condition, your reverence for the economists seems more far fetched than the claims you are making.

Not only does Obama have a plan, but he also spoke to the urgency of the mortgage crisis BEFORE IT EVEN HIT. Also, he spoke against us going to war. McCain specifically said in an interview in November that he had no idea what to do about the mortgage mess. He doesn't even know who our allies are, who's fighting in Iraq, who Sarah Palin was before he chose her, etc.

This is a no-brainer for anyone who has been paying the least bit of attention.

Obama has extensive knowledge of international matters. Too many Repubs seem to think it depends entirely on how much one has traveled. Palin never had a passport until recently, and McCain seems to think that Czechoslovakia still exists and that Spain is in Latin America. International experience? McCain sees ALL foreign countries only in terms of whether we would want to go to war with them or not. By the way, I do have very extensive international travel--can I be president?

Uh, lavisiter--if Obama had NOT made the recent trip, the Republicans would have pilloried him mercilessly for not having gone to Iraq. They were poised to fault him whichever he did and he sensibly opted for going and gaining even more understanding of the condidions. And he did not parade around in Baghdad in a street market closed due to contunuing violence, with a huge bodyguard and several helicopters just of camera range.

These are the voices of the true conservatives, not the fake ones like Rush Limbaugh/Sean Hannity. Now, the problem is, most Americans are uneducated and easy to manipulate, they are too scared or too feeble to think for themselves so they let the fake "conservatives" do their thinking for them. Same goes for the religious fanatics, letting a buffoon like James Dobson do their thinking for them. What a sight they are at concerts, hands spread, getting high on the music......this country can be so scary.

How can you explain the hypocrisy of Palin going to 5 colleges in 6 years to complete a 4 year degree and now we are supposed to believe that she is the intelligent enough POTUS? Or... McCain graduating 3 third from the bottom of his class and he is the best that the country has to offer? If Barack Obama had either of their academic records the GOP would be decrying the ills of affirmative action and ruminating about how unqualified blacks were being considered for jobs that they clearly were not qualified for.
