Financial Times:

Barack Obama fought to regain the initiative in the presidential race on Tuesday as the Wall Street financial crisis threatened to stall the recent burst of momentum behind John McCain.

The banking meltdown has thrust the economy back to the centre of the campaign, giving Mr Obama a chance to hit back after two weeks of declining poll numbers and escalating Republican attacks.

IMPORTANT BREAKING NEWS
Social Security bankrupt due to failing markets... Oh ! Wait ! That never happened. The Democratic Party was in control of Congress due to the 2006 election and stopped the GOP, Bush and McCain from Changing our Social Security System.
Never mind.

When he does, it will make a great ad for Obama.

Typical uninformed liberal babble.

Bush wanted to give contributors the CHOICE of putting SOME of their contributions into PRIVATE (as in for them) accounts that could be invested a number of different ways (mutual funds, bonds, ect.). That is in no way PRIVATIZING social security. The republicans have never suggested investing ALL of social security into the stock market.

Another of Obama's BALDFACE lies that you libs have latched on to.

McCain thinks "many American's aren't paying taxes".

When I got my first job at 16, I paid FICA. I had no idea who that was.

Doesn't every American pay taxes? Whether it be sales tax, FICA, or gas/energy taxes?

In the thug world it is only a tax if they say it is. In Dallas they are proposing to start charging people for putting out a fire at their house or chasing a burglar away. Police and firemen don't have enough money. So we pay again. Where's the dough we pay in taxes?

It is paying for the so called tax cuts ... stupld stupld stupld we be believing them thugs.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 08:57 AM on 09/17/2008

Uh... well... what you are talking about is LOCAL government. Not much of your federal income tax goes to your city police and fire department; that would be your state and city sales tax. (In Texas, we don't pay a state income tax -- thank god.)

FICA is an acronym for Federal Insurance Contributory Act.

It's the law that set up Social Security---which is technically an insurance premium, not a tax.

That's why it's so disingenuous for the right to talk about letting people take their own SS retirement money and invest it themselves.

The money you pay to SS is not for your retirement. It pays for current retirees.
Remember, it's an insurance premium---not an IRA.

Another lie from the left. The republicans wanted contributors to have the CHOICE of investing SOME of their contributions into APPROVED low-risk investments (some mutual funds, bond, ect).

Yes, almost all Americans pay tax. FICA, as you said, sales tax, gas tax, property tax so all Americans pay taxes.

(sales and property taxes are state taxes...)

To the repubs:

You got my pride
Hanging out of my bed
You mess with my life
So I bought my lead

Even mess with my children
And you're screaming at my wife
Get off of my back!
If you wanna get out of here alive

Freedom, freedom
Give to me
That's what I need
Freedom, freedom
To live
Freedom, freedom
So I can give

You got my heart
Speaking electic water
You got my soul
Screaming and hollering

You know you hooked my girlfriend
You know the drug store man
Well I don't need it now
I'm just trying to slap it out of her hands

Freedom, freedom
Give to me
That's what I need
Freedom, freedom
To live
Freedom, freedom
That's what I need

You don't have to
Say that you love me
If you don't mean it
You'd better believe

If you need me
Or you just wanna bleed me
Better stick in your dagger
Someone else
So I can leave, set me free!

Yeah, she's right
Straight ahead
Yep...straight up there
Freedom, so I can live
Freedom, so I can give...

Keep on pushing straight ahead...

Can you be an anti-regulation populist, who wants to keep government out of business?

Does John McCain know how government interfers in business? He worked a mere 12 months for his father-in-law, so how does he even know how government interfers in business?

Duh -- it was Palin who originally WELCOMED a full investigation. What changed? Your party is pathetic -- unable to do anything right and hellbent on avoiding accountability at any cost -- including violating the "Rule of Law" which was considered sacrosanct when your party went witch hunting to impeach Clinton. You're nothing but a bunch of pathetic hypocrites.

Except it isn't a witchhunt (isn't that sexist?) because the committee who decided to open the investigation is made up of dems and reps. They voted unanimously to go forward with the investigation. SP was all for it because she said she had nothing to hide.
So why hide now? Is it because her husband was subpeonaed?
It just doesn't look good to not cooperate. Gives the impression of a cover-up.

Joe Scarborough and Mika were beside themselves this morning after running the latest McCain "Foundations" ad that was just released. It focuses on the "Maverick" team (lol) and the "Change" that they'll bring to Washington. To listen to Scarborough and Mika, you would think that McCain won the election on the basis of that one ad. Someone at MSNBC should clue those two in that McCain's platform of "Change" is ridiculous and the public will not buy it when all is said and done and the truth is revealed.

This show is increasingly right winged w/out any sense of balance. Mika's discussion w/John McCain earlier this week included her telling him her brother works for HIS Campaign. Sadly, she has jumped the shark when it comes to her "journalistic" credentials -- and, shamelessly allows discource about her father, brother, etc. fuse w/her own commentary. The jocular banter and mindless "news you can't use" segments -- while we are in CRISIS -- is pathetic. Joe Scarborough is a bully and total waste of time. MSNBC's morning/daytime roster is in the can for McCain mirroring Fox "News" round-the-clock. CNBC is still cheerleading regarding the investor class -- and, simultaneously hoping for bailouts for their friends on Wall Street. They screamed the loudest about our seniors getting prescription drug benefits -- but bailouts and war profiteering are just fine w/this crowd. Scarborough and Mika/Andrea Mitchell are desperately trying to make Sarah Palin some kind of heroine. You never hear a peep about Sarah Palin refusing interviews, not cooperating w/investigations, OPENLY LYING AT EVERY TURN. Andrea Mitchell gives McCain operatives a platform on her 1pm ET show -- and Carly was daily on it. Yesterday, that platform got Carly into big trouble.

Karma.

Here's what the NYTimes said today about McCain and the Economy:

Uhh... well... Palin hasn't been subpoenaed, so she can't really ignore something that hasn't been issued.

She may well, but it's a bit early, especially since the investigator hasn't even asked to talk to her yet, much less issued a subpoena.
