Financial Times:

Barack Obama fought to regain the initiative in the presidential race on Tuesday as the Wall Street financial crisis threatened to stall the recent burst of momentum behind John McCain.

The banking meltdown has thrust the economy back to the centre of the campaign, giving Mr Obama a chance to hit back after two weeks of declining poll numbers and escalating Republican attacks.

Obama is a statesman true to the American ideal; a moral person; and someone who can rally Americans for the hard decisions facing us.

wait..........................wait...................................hard decisions, you say? Who better to take the fall than a Democrat? Come on Republicans; I am sure you can see that the American Dream has fallen into rats_hit. Do you want one of your own to take the fall?

McCain wants a commission... why bother.

McCain Misses 9 / 11 Commission Vote
By Joe Bodell 3/13/07 7:44 PM

Today the U.S. Senate passed S. 4, a bill which writes several important aspects of the 9 / 11 Commission"s recommendations into law.

Both of Minnesota"s senators, Democrat Amy Klobuchar and Republican Norm Coleman, voted for the measure, which passed on a 60-38 vote. Missing the vote were Democrat Tim Johnson of South Dakota, who is recovering from a b rain h emorrhage he suffered in December, and Arizona Republican John McCain. McCain is not recovering from a cerebral h emorrage, but is running for president.

The official_9_11_myth is that no one saw this coming and little could be done to stop it. Yet we know that the security agencies of other countries knew and alerted us. We also know that low-level investigators found threads of the plot and were told to cease and desist.

We know that superiors who ordered investigations terminated were not f_ired or disciplined, but PROMOTED. Instead of a purge at the_C_IA, the head - George T_enet - was given a Presidential Medal, honors and a f_at pension.

Is America so incompetent that failure is rewarded? My argument here is simple: if we eliminate c_onspiracy........................... then the remaining conclusion is that of unaddressed MASSIVE AND OVERRIDING INCOMPETENCE.

9_/11 was the result of the complete and total failure of all agencies involved, from failure of watch lists to stop t_errorists from entering the country to the FDA failing to properly alert the military during the hijackings. Incredibly the only fighter plane ready to fly and defend Washington DC was not a_rmed. The pilot was planning to use his aircraft to c_rash into the jetliner heading to the P_ent_agon. The President was on Air F_orce One and ready to take command as in a state of w_ar, but all communication systems failed such that the Vice-president was illegally issuing commands.

There is more, but I dare not

It is going to be difficult for o to win this election when the media shrugs off most of Mack / Palins constant, and I mean constant li-eing. Not only do they li=e repeatedly they repeatedly voice said li-es.
And sadly, the majority of the electorate will fall for this as the MSM sits by & watches giving spending little time addressing this outrage.
Palin is a despi-cable excuse for a human being and Mack has turned into the same this election cycle.

The American people must be made aware that the economic crisis did not happen overnight. It is not an accident. It was avoidable.

The Republicans lacked the leadership, competence and will to prevent it.

Fought? Obama fought to regain initiative?

Did anybody read the story that linked from this HuffPo "page"? I did and it's a perfect example of media spin.

I was there in Golden, Colorado yesterday and Obama laid out exactly what he has done the past 2 years to avert this crisis. Wall Street has known about this for a long time now. McCain advisor Phil Gramm convinced Congress to remove the barriers that were put in place during the Great Depression to prevent the very crisis we're seeing right now.

The article was written by someone in London and simply didn't include anything from Obama's statements before and after what few words they quoted.

Come one HuffPo, you can do better. Obama hit home run after home run yesterday by simply stating the facts, how fixable this is, how Wall Street and the Treasury Dept don't want to fix it.

I even object to Rachel Maddow saying that Obama mocked McCain. How does pointing out one's flip-flopping, hypocrisy and overall cluelessness amount to mockery? I was there. Obama was Obama: calm, thoughtful and articulate. He doesn't dumb anything down.

The Financial Times article wasn't worth anything at all.

Is someone getting the best, the best, the best, the best of you?
Are you gone and onto someone new?

I needed somewhere to hang my head

Too strong to lose

The Dems are on the offense; now can we keep it that way please? Don't go backwards. Keep pounding the economic message home in those battleground states, especially Ohio. Those people are suffering tremendously under this administration's economic policies, yet they don't seem to understand that. McCain is still up in in polling in that state.

I think you better read this article before you pass that on to very many Americans, at least if they live in Ohio; it's about what happened the last time the Brits tried to influence an American presidential election (2004):

It's too bad the Europeans don't get to decide our elections for us. I know most you liberals believe most Americanse are stupid and inferior to the folks across the pond. Obama would surely win; the Europeans love socialists.

Morons is the term I'd apply to those Americans who keep doing things against their own best interests and have abdicated their social responsibility to think for themselves.

In case that sounds elitist let me paraphrase someone more down home, a gentleman by the name of Ron White, who very wisely said 'You can't fix stupid'.

Generally the more education and income a family has, the less we reproduce. Poor and ignorant folks naturally choose reproduction as an evolutionary advantageous tool as more babies equals more opportunity. The Republicans are informed, albeit rich and powerful, but they require a poor and ignorant and economically depressed voting mass to support their me-me-me agenda. The ordinary American is thus transformed into a Republican tool; the ordinary work-a-day worker is suddenly important to the Republican political worker: a tool to insure wealthy Americans election priority.

Did you get that?

The Republican Party is for the rich but they use the ordinary work-a-day American to advance their agenda. Can you say "P. T. Barnum & Bailey? A sucker is born every minute."

I lived in Europe for 10 years and I know first hand that the quality of life is not as high as people like you make it out to be. A person born in Europe is an instant slave to the government.

I guess that's okay if you don't realize you're a rat trapped in a cage but for those on the outside looking in, I just don't see that many trading their lives for their lifestyle. Unless you are an immigrant from a southern Middle Eastern nation.

Come on now . . .

Don't tell me that Democrats aren't having just as much fun playing social engineering with peoples lives.

They pit family against family, ethnic group against ethnic group, and social class against social class with experiment after experiment. Moreover, they then blame Republicans for the failures of one while advancing the exciting new promise of another.

Who falls harder, a worker who may have to change jobs every now and then, or one who has to turn to the government as its only form of salvation?

Samir Amin has some interesting work on this area; taking the case of Africa, for example, you simply can't tell a family who lives from subsistence agriculture to have one or two children, as the more they have to work the fields, the greater the yelding . On the other hand, better education , better health and more specialized jobs result in smaller families, for the cost of keeping a decent standard of living (especially in urban areas) is very high.

So, really, if we want to curb populational growth, we should start by lifting people out of poverty, not lecturing them on the only (natural) tool they have to survive as family - especially when the US, with only 2% of the World population, is responsible for 40% of the total consumption of global resources.

This past July, AIG gave its failed CEO a $47 million severance package for his troubles:
Poor fellow. I hope that he will be OK though he does have the advantage of having an office and secretary until the end of the year. This is a new era, where record losses are ignored and multi-million dollar golden hand shakes are given along with a nice peck on the cheek. Let's be honest, corporate America would do this for any employee, especially after years of being treated so well with no luxury too much. Just because he was paid massive amounts based on bad business and now is being paid yet again despite the company writing down billions doesn't mean he didn't deserve it. Hey, he had a contract! Legal wasn't able to find any of those famous loopholes despite AIG losing billions upon billions.

What's that? Your company won't even pay for all of your family health insurance after working there for 10 years? Well, you people are always so greedy and just ask for too much. Shouldn't you be working now anyway?
