The Obama camp, sensing blood, released a new ad this morning taking John McCain to task for calling the fundamentals of the economy "strong" in the midst of a financial sector crisis.

Titled, "Fundamentals," the spot runs through some of the more alarming headlines of recent days: "Lehman Brothers Collapses," "Markets In Turmoil," "Job Losses at 605,000 For The Year," and "Foreclosures at 9,800 A Day," before getting to McCain's line and repeating it three times. The ad ends with the knife: "How can John McCain fix our economy if he doesn't understand it's broken?"

Coming off the back-and-forth between McCain and Obama yesterday, it seems clear that the campaigns will again focus on economy today. Certainly, the spot reflects a more populist tone that Obama is seeking to strike.

The ad, the campaign says, will air in "key states," but these things have become the equivalent of daily video press releases.

Barack Obama gave a terrific interview on Bloomberg News last night. He understands the reasons for the current banking/financial debacle, and he has some really good proposals to help fix the system that has been so badly abused. I tried to find the link to the podcast on Bloomberg.com, but didn't find it. It was on Peter Cook's Money and Politics show - actually aired a bit later during Night Talk because of a technical problem with the satellite link to Denver, where Obama was. There's a brief synopsis of it on MarketWatch.com: http://www.marketwatch.com/news/story/obama-bloomberg-tv-bush-administration/story.aspx?guid=%7BD2DAA2A1-C253-4601-B8A7-C4015D5F0592%7D&dist=hppr

Hey zigzag7,

You're smarter than most people in this country. You're paying attention. Something that, unfortunately, few who say now that they will vote for McCain are doing. Because if anyone was actually paying attention to the incoherent answers that McCain is giving about the economic meltdown and what his "plan" is,and they were in their right mind, they would not vote for the guy.

Thanks for the link. Keep it up.

Good idea, weak ad. It needs the clip where McCain says he doesn't know much about the economy and needs to brush up on it. This ad looks like it was put together at the last minute. Obama is a great candidate with a lousy ad team. Perhaps, the campaign could borrow just ONE guy from Jon Stewart or Stephan Colbert.

About damned time - we need more ads like this.

Get Pres Bubba out on the trail to help emphasize that "it's the economy, stupid." Heck, my son, a college grad, who was laid off on January 31st and has been trying as hard as hell to get a job, thank God has a final interview with a company today that appears to be a good opportunity. He's been working so hard to get a decent job, I sure hope he gets this one. At least he's been living with us.

You don't get the effects of this "fundamentally sound" economy until they hit your home and your children, like they have hit mine.

Would some reporter/pundit please ask Carlie Fiorino what she thinks of CEO golden parachutes and if she's willing to give hers back.

An autobiography done some time ago about McCain, very insightful. Listen closely to what he says at the last 3 minutes, I caught the word war criminal, but I can't hear very well out of one ear.

Hockey moms beware. This is what McPalin is going to do to your employer based healthcare. You won't be able to afford to get your kids stitched up when they get off the ice.

This is a must watch. Please spread this to every American you know. People need to know that the ticket the GOP picked is a serious warmonger ticket.

Mccain is not interested in "fixing" the economy. He just wants to be POTUS. ...and use the Bush playbook!
