The Obama camp, sensing blood, released a new ad this morning taking John McCain to task for calling the fundamentals of the economy "strong" in the midst of a financial sector crisis.

Titled, "Fundamentals," the spot runs through some of the more alarming headlines of recent days: "Lehman Brothers Collapses," "Markets In Turmoil," "Job Losses at 605,000 For The Year," and "Foreclosures at 9,800 A Day," before getting to McCain's line and repeating it three times. The ad ends with the knife: "How can John McCain fix our economy if he doesn't understand it's broken?"

Coming off the back-and-forth between McCain and Obama yesterday, it seems clear that the campaigns will again focus on economy today. Certainly, the spot reflects a more populist tone that Obama is seeking to strike.

The ad, the campaign says, will air in "key states," but these things have become the equivalent of daily video press releases.

So now John McCain is calling for an "economic crisis summit." Maybe Palin can head this up for him and while she's at it, maybe she can extend an invite to those two wizards, George and Dick. I'm sure that they have some super good ideas on what to do!

Obama has to pound him every day until election day. Clueless, dishonest and reckless. No need to make stuff up about the Republican ticket.

the straight mock express can't wiggle off the hook with this one .... no one liner or poop eating grin can change the facts here. I mean fundamentally .. if McCain was broke he could sale a house or a pair of those $500 loafers he likes to wear. what a chode! how elitist can it get?????, i would say ol johnny boy put his foot in his mouth , but they would use it for some talking point about how he can't stretch his legs from his POW years. if he wasn't better than bush last time around, how will he be this time ???? thats like the dems getting Docuckus to lead the way... and the fact that he picked some bibles and bullets toting bimbo supports the theory that in times like these some cling to guns and religion ... yet we the american people are not allowed to question her or their leadership.....???? i mean i;ve seen this one time before..... "if your not with us , you're against us" - George W. .... whatever happened to the fundamental american belief in descent... they've made the biggest mistakes in the history of our country and we arent allowed to question their leadership???????? it seems like they want our mental freedoms as much as our physical freedoms.......

I agree with your response and especially love the use of the word CHODE! Very accurate for McCain.

This is great. Now, in tandem with making sure that McCain and his ilk are seen as responsible for this mess, I hope Sen. O will also offer a message of hope - inspire America to more innovation and a path to the future. Both of these messages need to be communicated.

Well maybe if everyone would get their heads out of the Alaska investigation thing, maybe we could get down to why this has been happening for a while now. Believe me it didn't just happen. This has been culimating for long time and these candidates do not get it yet.

They are not focused on the potential solutions either. Yes it's ok to question your opponents stances on different issues but this is getting ridiculous. It seems that they and the media are so far into the a stupid investigation into anything that Gov. Palin did in Alaska and her religous beliefs that they are not even concentrating on the investigation that should be done on the connection of Sen. Obama who is the 2nd largest recipient of "donations" from Fannie Mae and Freddy Mac. Guess who is third, Sen. Clinton. Oh yes, and another Democrat is at the top of the chart.

Get real, anything that Gov. Palin did in firing a protective apointee is miniscule to what has happened with our banking and stock market industies.

The investigation into Gov. Palin is a diversion used by the media to take the heat off of their darlings who are the recipients of their blind propaganda. Wake up America! Demand a congressional investigation into the real problems that our country is facing, not just the problems of a bitter Democrat in Alaska.

John McCain knows everything?!

Regarding our current wars (and possibly future wars he may get us into): "I know how to win wars. I know how to win wars." (despite the fact that he's never won a war [hello, we lost Vietnam] nor been directly involved in any war we've won since then)

Regarding Osama Bin Laden: "I've been there, I know the area. I know how to catch Bin Laden." (Reeaally. Is this area along the border between Iraq and Pakistan?)

And today we get this...

Regarding our economy: "And the old-boy network and the corruption in Washington is directly involved and one of the causes of this financial crisis that we're in today," McCain said on "Good Morning America" on ABC. "And I know how to fix it and I know how to get things done."

Wow, he knows how to fix the economy, too. My God, the man's a genius! But he sure is holding out on us. What about Country First? If I didn't know better I'd think he was trying to hold us hostage to make us elect him.

But, if he knows how to fix the economy, why this: "John McCain on Tuesday called for a high-level commission to study the current economic crisis..."

THAT IS A START, I ALSO CAME UP WITH AN ADD THAT WOULD NOT ONLY BE AGAINST MCCAIN, BUT AGAINST REPUBLICANS ALTOGETHER AFTER LISTENING TO HARDBALL YESTERDAY AND IT GOES LIKE THIS;
WHEN DEMOCRATS WERE IN OFFICE: WHEN REPUBLICANS ARE IN OFFICE;
unemployment 4.2% unemployment 6.1%
Fiscal reponsibility 281 billion surplus Fiscal responsibility 357 Trillion in the red
National Debt 5.3 trillion National debt 9.7 trillion
gas $1.46 a gallon gas $4 a gallon
CAN YOU AFFORD ANOTHER REPUBLICAN IN OFFICE?
HOW MUCH LONGER CAN YOU AFFORD TO KEEP SUPPORTING PEOPLE WHO DO NOT SUPPORT YOU?
VOTE DEMOCRAT, VOTE OBAMA!!!!! YOUR FUTURE AND YOUR CHILDREN FUTURES DEPENDS ON IT!!!!!
LET ME GET SOME THOUGHTS HERE?

Way to go rabprevent for this info! unfortunately, conservative believers don't seem to deal with facts.

Today in my local indeoendent grocery store, the owner was stocking shelves as I was shopping. he made small talk with me about the current state of consumer and producer prices. He said that when there is too much government charity the economy goes down the tubes. He went on with this thought for a time until I asked he ever studied the Gilded Age and the panics of 1873, 1877, and the depression of 1893-97. He looked at me like he had no idea what I was talking about, as most Americans think 1929 was our first and worst depression.

I rattled off stats about the Age, and that there was no social security, FDIC, FTC, Fed. reserve, welfare, etc. on a federal and generally state level, and the economy still tanked bad.

Instead of addressing my ideas, he went on to say that when Sam Walton once lost a billion, he and his family prayed together and said they would be alright, it was just money.

I responded that Mr. Walton had billions to fall back on, and most Americans don't, so how is that example relevant or on-topic.

He responded that he wasn't afraid to die or lose money.

Typical conversation with a conservative.

Good ad. Next one should contrast McCain's no-regulation record, including very recent anti-regulation statements, with Obama's much-earlier calls for regulation of the very industry whose selfish, reckless practices are bringing our economy to its knees.

NOW, McCain and Palin are talking about regulating financial institutions, acting as though they are just the right ones for this job since they are so mavericky and reformy and all. Bull-Hockey. They were against regulation right up until the very minute when even the industry itself can't deny the need for regulation. And you can bet your - well, you can bet whatever you have left after this financial crisis - that any regulation they might impose would be about as effective as Bush regulation has been. For all the nose-thumbing McCain has aimed at his own party in days long-past, he has NEVER parted ways with them on economics, especially not on regulation.
