Obama Ad Goes After McCain For 'Fundamentals Are Strong'

The Obama camp, sensing blood, released a new ad this morning taking John McCain to task for calling the fundamentals of the economy "strong" in the midst of a financial sector crisis.

Titled, "Fundamentals," the spot runs through some of the more alarming headlines of recent days: "Lehman Brothers Collapses," "Markets In Turmoil," "Job Losses at 605,000 For The Year," and "Foreclosures at 9,800 A Day," before getting to McCain's line and repeating it three times. The ad ends with the knife: "How can John McCain fix our economy if he doesn't understand it's broken?"

Coming off the back-and-forth between McCain and Obama yesterday, it seems clear that the campaigns will again focus on economy today. Certainly, the spot reflects a more populist tone that Obama is seeking to strike.

The ad, the campaign says, will air in "key states," but these things have become the equivalent of daily video press releases.

McCain was on The Today Show this morning and woefully tried to say that when he said the fundamentals of the economy are strong he was saying that the "fundamentals of the economy" are the workers. This is one thing I've been witing for in the ads - the right music. In movies, you know when danger is coming, you know when the situation is tense, you know when the goodguys are in trouble, you know when everything is OK - every Joe Sixpack, Suzie Schoolteacher, Roger Researcher and Andrew Accountant in the nation seeing this ad will get the message. NOW Barack can attack like this. He had to wait for the "Maverick" to maverick himself right out of credibilty. And McSame did it to himself, got desparate, listen to his lobbyist cronies and VIOLA, maverick no more. Biden is going on the attack now, Hillary is going to attack now, and Barack right with them. As soon as Bill gets onboard it'll be over.
I think Bill and Al Gore should appear on stage with Barack and BIden. Bill speak about economy, Gore about energy and tie it to the economy, Biden about foreign affairs and tie it to the economy, and Barack about Education & Health Care and tie it to the economy. Basically all the "BIG 4 Concerns" discussed by the "BIG 4 Democrats" and how the economy has brought them down, and Barack and show how Obama/Biden are going to (thru the economy) bring them back up again (using the Clinton era as an example). My husband called them the Fantastic 4.

For me, the best part was the next campaign stop McCain did. He had index cards that he kept looking at saying somethng about workers were the fundamentals and they are good. So that means since I have a job I'm a fundamental? I don't get it. What a loser. He looks more doddering every single day.
Also, saw my first non Obama produced ad here in AZ. It was a former POW that was imprisoned with John McCain said he said he didn't want McCain's finger on that red button. Talked about his temper etc. It was aired during Countdown yesterday(Black Monday) Brave New Films produced it. It was excellent!

Biden did a bang up job this morning on CNN with his direct, to the point depiction of the American economy and its toll on the middle class. This is good. This is very good. However, we now need details from Obama/Biden as to how they would approach this mess. Hit 'em with the negative left hand punch and again with the positive right hand punch. You're getting there, Mr. O! Now take control of this thing! We'll take care of the money and we'll get 'em to the polls!
