Despite a massive financial crisis rocking Wall Street and several days of lashing from media fact-checkers, the McCain campaign is still hammering away at "issues" that could charitably be described as frivolous.

On Monday evening, McCain's press crew blasted out an email to reporters titled "John McCain On Barack Obama And The Financial Markets." Sounds substantive enough. But when reporters opened it, they found the bolded, highlighted line was McCain's criticism of Barack Obama for holding a fundraiser in Hollywood with Barbara Streisand:

"[Obama] talked about siding with the people, siding with the people, just before he flew off to Hollywood for a fundraiser with Barbara Streisand and his celebrity friends. Let me tell you, my friends, there's no place I'd rather be than here, with the working men and women of Ohio." - John McCain.

Never mind that McCain held a top-dollar fundraiser of his own, in Hollywood, with celebrities, less than a month earlier.

Fast forward to today, and McCain aides are now decrying Obama for not being inclusive enough in his treatment of celebrities, actually calling out the Democratic nominee for reportedly turning down a fundraising event with Lindsay Lohan. Per TMZ.com:

"So let me get this straight," said Tucker Bounds, a spokesman for the McCain campaign. "They turned away Lindsay Lohan, but Barack Obama has friends like unrepentant terrorist Bill Ayers and convicted felon Tony Rezko? Maybe LiLo is just too upstanding for Barack Obama."

Certainly, the Obama campaign has engaged in its share of trivialities. But the Democratic nominee's press shop has done, at least this week, yeoman-like work in striking a serious tone on the economy. Just look at the somber two-minute long commercial Obama released this morning. As Tommy Veitor, Obama's spokesperson, responded (undoubted, gleefully): "Glad to see they're focused on the important issues over in McCain HQ."

John McCain's strategy is to keep the media and America focused on dumb crap instead of the serious issues that McCain does not have answers for. What gives with the GOP and disparaging Hollywood anyway? They have embraced the intertainment industry for many years. Ronald Reagan and Nancy Reagan were B movie stars. Frank Sinatra danced with Nancy Reagan at the Inauguaral Balls. Fred Thompson comes to mind, isn't he a Hollywood type! John McCain attends these same kind of ritzy fund raisers on a regular basis and is glad to get the money and support. HYPOCRISY, that's what it is!!

I am proud of Obama fund raising among people making millions of dollars a year. Get it from those that have to much......$28,500 a plate? That's a new handbag for some of those mega stars.

I really wish he would stop using the 'my firends' line. It gives me the creeps.
And this is what he really thinks about the AVERAGE person:

John McCain: Curbing Access to Reporters: "Destroys Credibility." "As the JetBlue charter from Michigan touched down in South Carolina, I strolled up to John McCain's front-row seat — none of his aides batted an eye — and asked if he would continue to chat with reporters around the clock if he won the Republican nomination. Most candidates, after all, grow more cautious around the media mob as the stakes get higher. McCain said he couldn't stop, because 'that destroys credibility.' And besides, he said, 'I enjoy it a lot. It keeps me intellectually stimulated, it keeps me thinking about issues, and it keeps me associated with a lower level of human being than I otherwise would be.'"[Washington Post, 1/21/08]

No place he'd rather be than with the regular folk,eh? You mean he was spotted more at Phoenix bowling alleys & public golf courses than country clubs? He's so full of it. the only person in high office that i know of that really does like people is bill clinton.

"Let me tell you, my friends, there's no place I'd rather be than here, with the working men and women of Ohio." - John McCain.

Whatever, that sounds like a mur-der-er hanging around the crime scene, perfect time for this campaign to un-ravel.

Oh the concern and stress over the economy drove poor Obama to the arms of Hollywood at $28,500.00 a pop! I heard that it was originally supposed to be $30,000.00 a pop but times are rough and everyones watching their $500.00's

Why? Because the night before McSame was at a big ticket GOP Fundraiser. Only those guests are not pretty to look at or have heart and souls like the people who attended Obama's fundraiser.

Well, similarly, Lady Lynn Forester de Rothschild, of the wealthiest bloodlines in the solar system telling us that Obama is ‘elitist’ on CNN

If this is the electorates’ new barometer for class-consciousness then Dick Cheney should soon be chairing an ethics committee.

That's right, bring up tangential relationships between O and Ayers and Rezko but we will ignore mc's fat little fingers in the Keating 5 financial disaster.

This headline could just as easily have read,

"During Economic Crisis, Obama Fills Coffers with Huge Donations from Streisand, Other Rich Hollywood Elite."

What you whining for???

Bush won't let Obama in the Whitehouse to help! The Repubs created this mess but won't accept any other ideas from decent Americans (i.e., Obama and the Dems) to get it fixed. STOP WHINING (words of one of your precious own Repub brother, Mr. Phil Gramm!:)

Delusional. Purely delusional. I suspect you'll have trouble with that four syllable word but if you can tear yourself away from the Western Standard and get a dictionary it might help although I doubt it.

With the addition of Palin, McCain has decided to run the tabloid campaign. His entire campaign content is the stuff that should appear in the National Inquirer not in the Wall Street Journal or NY Times. This campaign is a joke and if McCain wins the whole country will look like a joke.

Doesn't McCain have his own celebrity troubles to deal with ~ read Palin.

If she is campaigning with him people file out of the room before he's even finished speaking.
And she has a lot less to say !!

I really don't feel sorry for him.

Sarah Palin is a woman ~ we are supposed to pick her just because she is a woman and has some children. Show me the amazing part!!

Calling out Obama for meeting with celebrities ~ who can help his campaign ~ is the very same thing they did when Obama did stadiums and drew large crowds. So while Obama switches to doing smaller TOWN HALL meetings ~ the McCain crowd size is growing ~ with the addition of Palin.

These guys are going to complain no matter what Obama does ~ where Obama can - he should do stadiums ~ and Florida would be a good place.

If you are doing a stadium and attract 30,000 - 60,000 people, each of these people will be inspired and moved enough to tell 3 or so other people. In this way - with one stop - Obama can reach 90,000 - 180,000 people - this excluding TV and internet coverage.

At the moment Obama is right on track ~ take down McCain and by extension that weakens Palin.

So give him his wish. Make McCain unemployed so he can go to work as a Wal-Mart greeter in Ohio.
First real job he'd have in his life.
