I Like ItI Don’t Like It

Barack Obama's campaign is releasing a new television ad in which the Senator, speaking directly to the camera, lays out his economic agenda and positions himself as an above-partisanship leader on this tattered front.

The spot, which lasts two-minutes (suggesting an expensive ad buy), takes no direct digs at John McCain. Rather, the Senator casts blame for much of the current economic crises on government as a whole and takes a subtle jab at the media as well.

"The truth is that while you've been living up to your responsibilities, Washington has not," he says. "That's why we need change. Real change. This is no ordinary time and it shouldn't be an ordinary election. But much of this campaign has been consumed by petty attacks and distractions that have nothing to do with you or how we get America back on track."

From there, Obama offers a bullet point rundown of his economic prescriptions: reforming the tax system, clamping down on lobbyists, fast tracking "a plan for energy 'made-in-America,'" and ending the war in Iraq. "Doing these things won't be easy," he concludes. "But we're Americans. We've met tough challenges before... I approved this message because bitter, partisan fights and outworn ideas of the left and the right won't solve the problems we face today. But a new spirit of unity and shared responsibility will."

The advertisement, the campaign says, will air nationally and in battleground states.

Full Script Below

In the past few weeks, Wall Street's been rocked as banks closed and markets tumbled. But for many of you -- the people I've met in town halls, backyards and diners across America -- our troubled economy isn't news. 600,000 Americans have lost their jobs since January. Paychecks are flat and home values are falling. It's hard to pay for gas and groceries and if you put it on a credit card they've probably raised your rates. You're paying more than ever for health insurance that covers less and less. This isn't just a string of bad luck. The truth is that while you've been living up to your responsibilities, Washington has not. That's why we need change. Real change. This is no ordinary time and it shouldn't be an ordinary election. But much of this campaign has been consumed by petty attacks and distractions that have nothing to do with you or how we get America back on track. Here's what I believe we need to do. Reform our tax system to give a $1,000 tax break to the middle class instead of showering more on oil companies and corporations that outsource our jobs. End the "anything goes" culture on Wall Street with real regulation that protects your investments and pensions. Fast track a plan for energy 'made-in-America' that will free us from our dependence on mid-east oil in 10 years and put millions of Americans to work. Crack down on lobbyists - once and for all -- so their back-room deal-making no longer drowns out the voices of the middle class and undermines our common interests as Americans. And yes, bring a responsible end to this war in Iraq so we stop spending billions each month rebuilding their country when we should be rebuilding ours. Doing these things won't be easy. But we're Americans. We've met tough challenges before. And we can again. I'm Barack Obama. I hope you'll read my economic plan. I approved this message because bitter, partisan fights and outworn ideas of the left and the right won't solve the problems we face today. But a new spirit of unity and shared responsibility will.

McCain ‘ole boy’s network’ a staff meeting!

McCain has intimate personal experience with greed and mismanagement!

Remember the Savings and Loan scandal? Greed and mismanagement and McCain one of the original Keating Five!

He talks about fixing corruption! What a freaking hypocrit! Both he and Palin – corrupt liars!

A huge cause for where we are today!

No thanks McCain; we're not taking your Bridge to Nowhere! Take Palin and your 83 Wall Street Lobbyists working on your campaign and jump off the bridge!

Shame on McCain

This ad is perfect!

This is why I love Barack Obama. He is intelligent and mature, unflappable and understanding. Not some bombastic fly-boy who wrecks planes, marriages, and economies. Barack Obama is going to be a great president, and this ad (and its underlying message) is going to go a long way in getting him there.

He is the perfect person to lead this nation at this time.

Sanity, sanity, what a beautiful thing, sanity.

Get this video to the top of the site and help distribute it.

The difference between Obama being thoughtful, honest and intelligent and McCain saying anything to get elected, ignoring his values and saying he does not really understand the economy are too important and powerful to ignore.

Enough is Enough

Let's get it on.

This is what real leadership is. It rises above the fray and speaks with levelheaded wisdom to inspire the cooperation and teamwork required to make us a better nation.

We are very lucky to have the opportunity to have a person of his intelligence, integrity, and humanity to represent us as our President.

If you cannot buy into what the senator stated then I would suggest you open the window. I would not scream I am mad as hell and I am not going to take it anymore though. I would just jump, because obviously, you like pain and you covet death.

Get a grip bigoted America, your bigotry is not going to feed your kids and neither are the policies and plans of John McCain. I say bigoted America because I can see no other reason that anyone in their right mind would be opposed to an Obama presidency. We already have George Bush, we do not need him yet again.

GrainOSand, you said "it" so right...can you say it twice!!???!!! I have been screaming this (what you said) to the top of my lungs. I am hoarse right about now. As Kurnaich (sp?) said at the convention, "WAKE UP AMERICA, WAKE UP"

Puddin,

Many are saying the same thing, I hope we are the majority. Some covet the days of Ozzie and Harriet and this is no time for black and white TV or politics. We must unite around sanity.

You say "bigoted America" because you cannot conceive of anyone disagreeing with you.
Accept it. The fact that I disagree with the man doesnt mean anything but that I disagree with him.

What a universal message as well as an inspiration to the diversified people of America. It is truly a message of US and the world working together to be prepared for a global society. The 20 something Americans get it, look around you, the next generation is bringing us into the 21st century. A global change that the 40+ should be paying attention to. Read up on his policies on nuclear weapons. I hope to have grandchildren soon, so for me the time is now.

Obama is taking the honest humanitary road to unite America, help America, not rape America and divide America. The only people that can't stand Obama are ones that want the same old mess that the republicans are barking about, instead of talking to us Americans with intellegence. Why vote for elderly people acting and talking like they are yet to leave high school? That will be the same way they will represent America when they talk to the foreign country's. Think about it!

Given your spelling and grammar, I think I will take the older crowd's "Intelligence" (actual spelling)

over the Obama's " humanitary " road (another non - word) as anyone under the age of 30 is rather naive when it comes to world geopolitical knowledge.

Thank you for the correction, but don't let my spelling and grammer sway you. It has nothing to do with the issues America faces.

Wonderful ad. Too much information for the low-information types, however. That's why 'petty' works and always will. Regardless, thanks to Wall Street, the tide is turning.

I love it when Democratic presidential candidates take the time to direct us personally and direct like this.

Remember this time too:

Very effective at that time as well

You have included a web link that has nothing to do with the crisis in America today and your name notes that you are a HRC supporter for the future.

Just in case you missed it:

There is a housing crisis
There is an economic crisis
There is a war going on
There is an oil crisis
There is an unemployment crisis
We are in a recession!

So let me get this straight...you hate the old Clintons but you will vote for the "new" Clintons? And what does that have to do with what is happening right now in this country?

Vote for the party that will get America back on track...the rest is just nonsense.

What does that video have to do with THE TRILLION DOLLAR MELTDOWN.
Read this very informative book. The meltdown has started. The reason is the innovative
creative financing that the "experts' have initiated.
