I Like ItI Don’t Like It

Barack Obama's campaign is releasing a new television ad in which the Senator, speaking directly to the camera, lays out his economic agenda and positions himself as an above-partisanship leader on this tattered front.

The spot, which lasts two-minutes (suggesting an expensive ad buy), takes no direct digs at John McCain. Rather, the Senator casts blame for much of the current economic crises on government as a whole and takes a subtle jab at the media as well.

"The truth is that while you've been living up to your responsibilities, Washington has not," he says. "That's why we need change. Real change. This is no ordinary time and it shouldn't be an ordinary election. But much of this campaign has been consumed by petty attacks and distractions that have nothing to do with you or how we get America back on track."

From there, Obama offers a bullet point rundown of his economic prescriptions: reforming the tax system, clamping down on lobbyists, fast tracking "a plan for energy 'made-in-America,'" and ending the war in Iraq. "Doing these things won't be easy," he concludes. "But we're Americans. We've met tough challenges before... I approved this message because bitter, partisan fights and outworn ideas of the left and the right won't solve the problems we face today. But a new spirit of unity and shared responsibility will."

The advertisement, the campaign says, will air nationally and in battleground states.

Full Script Below

In the past few weeks, Wall Street's been rocked as banks closed and markets tumbled. But for many of you -- the people I've met in town halls, backyards and diners across America -- our troubled economy isn't news. 600,000 Americans have lost their jobs since January. Paychecks are flat and home values are falling. It's hard to pay for gas and groceries and if you put it on a credit card they've probably raised your rates. You're paying more than ever for health insurance that covers less and less. This isn't just a string of bad luck. The truth is that while you've been living up to your responsibilities, Washington has not. That's why we need change. Real change. This is no ordinary time and it shouldn't be an ordinary election. But much of this campaign has been consumed by petty attacks and distractions that have nothing to do with you or how we get America back on track. Here's what I believe we need to do. Reform our tax system to give a $1,000 tax break to the middle class instead of showering more on oil companies and corporations that outsource our jobs. End the "anything goes" culture on Wall Street with real regulation that protects your investments and pensions. Fast track a plan for energy 'made-in-America' that will free us from our dependence on mid-east oil in 10 years and put millions of Americans to work. Crack down on lobbyists - once and for all -- so their back-room deal-making no longer drowns out the voices of the middle class and undermines our common interests as Americans. And yes, bring a responsible end to this war in Iraq so we stop spending billions each month rebuilding their country when we should be rebuilding ours. Doing these things won't be easy. But we're Americans. We've met tough challenges before. And we can again. I'm Barack Obama. I hope you'll read my economic plan. I approved this message because bitter, partisan fights and outworn ideas of the left and the right won't solve the problems we face today. But a new spirit of unity and shared responsibility will.

What is left on the cutting room is the plan is to have Joe Biden unravel and reverse his stance on credit policy that has devastated the middle class. Average Boy Joe was the GOP's pal who ran interference on the dem side and SUPPORTED the GOPs credit and bankruptcy reform act that was written by Joe's other pal MBNA Bank from Delaware, which coincidently, Joe's son both worked for and later lobbied for this act with the help of dad. This reformer for change and traitor among us said it would be good for Americans to be saddled with legalized usary, obscene and choking high interest rates, with absolutely no way out of your debt unlike his big business pals at Lehman Bros. have. If this was the French Revolution, Joe's head would have been the first to test the guillotine by the angry masses. Shameful.

Good thing Obama's the presidential candidate and actually makes the policy, not Biden.

Politicians have some nerve acting like they can relate to us.

This guy makes millions of dollars selling his books in such a "terrible" Bush economic policy, goes to Hollywood to raise 9 million toward his estimated 400 mill + when its all said and done, and sits there and preys upon people that actually think he is out to save the world......

Hillary must be puking in a corner

I won't pretend to think that Obama is a regular guy. America voted in the last two elections the guy "you'd most want to have a beer with". Look how that turned out.

Obama has policies that favor the regular guy. That's the question that really matters when choosing a president: "who can be the most effective in delivering what the people need?".

Finally, I'll say that raising money is a necessary evil. If you don't raise money, you can't get your message out, and you can't become president. That's like Campaigning 101.

yeah funny how Obama was broke in the 90's and since Bush took office he has published several books and made millions under such a "terrible" economic policy.....

Hillary works for the people, not herself.

Votehillary2012now,
Boy, you are sure pissed aren't you? Do you really think Hillary relates to the average person anymore than Obama? The Clinton years were the most conservative Democratic administration in decades, and Hillary would be an extension of that. She is the status quo with lipstick! Too interested in being in power than really fighting the good fight for the middle class. Get over your anger that a woman will not be president this time around concern yourself more with what is best for most of the people.

status quo= Democracy and majority rule....

Why are you backing a fringe left that puts small percentages of people ahead of the common good of the country?

That was an absolutely perfect ad.

To those who criticize it as "boring": apparently you are not affected by the dire state of our nation. It makes sense that all you care about is entertainment rather than addressing the problems. However, if we continue on our current course, you WILL be affected, too. Eventually. So, go ahead... laugh now, pay later.

I agree. I will take the portrait of an intellectual with real ideas and policies over cowboy drama any day. We have to set a new standard in this country, and electing McCain will be a step backward.

In all of the press and the blogs and common conversation, there is one thing that holds true. No one ever expected Barack Obama to get this far.

No one ever thought he would be on the brink of the presidency.

Hence Mccain's phsical appearance and the hail mary pass of Palin.

Republicans and the extreme right wing see the writing on the wall. Hence the all day every day lie machine also known as the McCain campaign.

Republicans will have a bitter pill to swallow in November.

Gone are the days of cowboy politics and making war on gut feelings. It's time for equal right and justice for everyone.

BigLib,
McCain has no economic policy other than that tried and proven failure of "unfettered free markets at any cost." This of course works for the elite investor class whom are fairly well insulated from the negative ramifications when markets fail. Their portfolios may take a hit but their daily lives are not impacted at all, unlike 99.9% of the rest of the population.
Your other posts smack of angry, racist neocon blather as well. Maybe working in the techsector breeds that. Do you reside in the USA? Perhaps Finland?
It appears the neocons are getting nervouse as they (you) have been blogging on HuffingtonPost enmasse with ridiculous, antisocial rants at Obama and the Dems in general.

Removing the regulations that were put into place after the 1930's Great Depression and stock market crash, was absolutely insane. and in this global economy, OUR massive de regulation of our once solid industries have infected not only our economy but the economy of the world.

Thanks RNC/GOP/MCCAin/ and especially Phil Gramm.

hard to believe that two bills pushed by Gramm..mcCain's advisor and his pick for head of the Treasury could and did inflict this mortal blow to the Whole World Economy.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glass-Steagall_Act

the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act,

. This Act repealed the Glass-Steagall Act of 1933. One of the effects of the repeal was to allow commercial and investment banks to consolidate. Some economists have criticized the repeal of the Glass-Steagall Act as contributing to the 2007 subprime mortgage financial crisis.[8][9

Do not take the bait Obama, let Biden be angry. let Hillary be angry, let Bill get angry at the RNC, you stay firm, and be the cool clear headed leader. They (the RNC)are waiting with a commercial ready to paint Obama as an angry Black man!
They love to use racism and hatred to win elections. And never talk about issues.
all they offer is more of the same.
Free markets. where the competition is bought out, and small govt, whcih is code word for de regulation........

Problem with that. No one is willing to do Obama's dirty work any more. Reason: look what happened to Wesley Clark and Rev. Wright. Clinton better start strategical retreat to prepare for 2012, rather than alienating indep. voters.

You don't like it when the candidates talk about real issues and real solutions?
You would rather they spit pointless insults back and forth at each other like first graders in a school yard?

There's no accounting for taste.
I am glad to see this development. I didn't see it coming.
I'm glad I support Obama.

Let's keep it factual, the de regualation a free market madness of the RNC/McCain and his cronie Phil Gramm ar ethe root cause. To not monitor our markets is like not haveing police monitor speeding on our roads and crimes. It is absolutely crazy. To have stripped away the Depression Era Regulations that made our economy safer and stronger was insanity. The Shame is McCain prides himself as a De regulator time and time again and now, even our biggest companies are being crushed by staggering debt obligations from their own risky actions.
Can't get a stimulus package for working Americans, but sure can come up with funds for AIG, Bear Stearns and the like ....that is not where I want my tax money spent. Not to mention a billion for the country of Georgia.....which is right beneath Russia.......
i mean where is the common sense.

That's gotta' be a worry for the McCain camp. It means there's a real chance that Palin will be a curse instead of a blessing.

The convention bounce is gone.
The Palin bounce is gone and republican-0-nomics is under everyones microscope.

The McCain's must be asking..."What now?"

They cant have another convention. They can't pick another VP.

All they have left is trying to be more negative than they have, and I don't think that's going to work. I think it's going to blow back in their faces.
