Another Palin Lie: Claimed She Took Pay Cut As Mayor, Actually Got Raise

One thing Sarah Palin cites as proof of her reform credentials is a pay cut she says she took when she became Mayor of Wasilla in 1996.

"As mayor I took a voluntary pay cut, which didn't thrill my husband; and then as governor I cut the personal chef position from the budget, and that didn't thrill my hungry kids," Palin said recently, repeating a frequent refrain.

But did she really get an overall pay cut as mayor? The record suggests a more complex story.

The constant lying of both Palin and her running mate McCain just blows my mind. It seems they lie many times when the truth would fit better and lies like taking a salary cut as mayor doesn't really do her much good but people finding out it's a lie will certainly do her harm.

I am beginning to wonder if both Palin and her running mate might have some serious problems. Lying and getting caught is one thing but then keep repeating the same lies after they have been debunked almost border on being mentally challenged.

I'm kind of surprised a town of 6000 pays the mayor $70,000. Plus she remodeled the office for $50K, plus she took junkets to Washington every year to check on her expensive lobbyists. That had to cost $4000 or more per year. So eight years of this is well over a half-million - maybe almost $600,000. So I guess the question is - if you were from Wasilla - did you feel like you got your $100 worth? Maybe, but $100 can buy a lot.

We paid for it all, for Palin it's called bleeding the beast. While todd and her attended meetings that's main goal was to get alaska to sucseed from the US. She may be a russian spy, since she is sooo close to russia. Maybe putin has paid her to look like a conservative to fool the idiots. Why else would they feel safe being soo close to Russia and not be a part of the US? Think about it.

You may have something there - it is possible Wasilla's mayoralty is paid for with federal dollars. For all of there silly secessionism, fierce frontier spirit, and alleged fiscal reforming discipline - Alaska recieves more Federal funds per capita than any other state. Wouldn't be a wild irony if she were speaking to secessionist groups while her salary and office remodeling were paid by Federal block grants?

My little town of 5000 in Iowa has a mayor that makes $5000. a year. Of course, that's because he only has to show up to meetings once a month, last meeting lasted 11 minutes. LOL. We have a town clerk that posts the water bill payments, a Police Chief and three patrolmen, a guy that checks out building permits, and a development corp. person, that has a secretary. We have a water dept. with 3 guys on it, and we buy our utilities from the local energy company. Our big problem is whether or not we should drill another water well.

The litany of lies, mistakes, crooked deals and boneheaded moves by Palin is just too big. Way too big. The Republican machine would not have approved her if they were really trying to win. My only conclusion is that she has been selected to run with John McCain as a test. A test of the stupidity of the American people by your political masters. They are attempting to determine just how gullible the American public is. Looks to me like they keep having to recalibrate the stupidity meter, cranking it higher and higher. Yet this race is too tight to call according to all of your pollsters. When will Americans as a nation hit the stupidity wall and react? The world awaits with much anticipation. This could be a great reality TV program.

Tonight, the commoner, Rachel Mad dow, had it pointed out to her that the increase in oil prices made Alaska flush with cash. 85% of the state revenue come from oil, and the State raised it's budget 60%.

Gov. Pail is reported to have cut funding for Alaska's Special Olympics.
