Another Palin Lie: Claimed She Took Pay Cut As Mayor, Actually Got Raise

One thing Sarah Palin cites as proof of her reform credentials is a pay cut she says she took when she became Mayor of Wasilla in 1996.

"As mayor I took a voluntary pay cut, which didn't thrill my husband; and then as governor I cut the personal chef position from the budget, and that didn't thrill my hungry kids," Palin said recently, repeating a frequent refrain.

But did she really get an overall pay cut as mayor? The record suggests a more complex story.

She was brought in by McCain's handlers and taught to say the things that excite conservatives:"I cut spending" "Thanks but no thanks". "I chose life". etc etc etc. The ploy worked, but the McCain people had no long term vision and did not plan for her/their lies to unravel right before their eyes. It was a desperate move that the media somehow convinced people was brilliant , for 2 weeks.

At first it was a bit amusing. Its getting a bit disgusting now. The McCain and Palin's in the world are assuming two things, the people are stupid and they won't get caught.

What is it with these fundies and their lies? I have no doubt that most evangelical Christians are honest people, but people who use their religion as a political and/or money-making tool, like Dobson, Falwell, Swaggart and Palin, are inevitably liars and crooks, it seems.

$68K is pretty good pay for the mayor of a town of 7,000, especially considering that she had a full-time city administrator to do the heavy lifting.

In the 90's this was really good money. How could a mayor of a town of 6,000, make 68K then? Can someone research this and see what size cities this salary would be on par with in the 90"s?

I think the lady really needs some help. This compulsive aversion to truth, not even when she is under pressure - as when kids lie - is very serious. But then the campaign as a whole is on the same track. This of course ignores several occasions when Senator McCain repeated statements against his opponent that are simply untrue, notably the claim that Senator Obama will increase taxes...

Sometime during this election campaign there was some talk about 'character­.' This was probably an oblique way to repeating a racist theme that is still get a play every now and then. But compulsive aversion to truth and racism hardly speak of a solid character.

There seems to be a trend with Palin: She continues to tell untruths, when they aren't necessary. She has done this so consistently that I think it is part of her character to lie.

& Biden:

& Palin:

This is all just so fascinating, but the novelty is wearing thin... quickly.

McCain has turned this most important election in history into a beauty queen side-show. For someone who spent 5 years in a prison camp, he should understand that this is not only treason, but irresponsible and dangerous. I think we can pretty much rule out decent judgement from McCain from here on out... unquestionably unfit for command.

Anybody wondering who's taking care of Palin's 4 month old while she's out galavanting around the country? As a parent, I find her actions abhorrent. She is the shining model of a self-absorbed power monger that I work hard every day to teach my kids to not become. How could any moral American support her?

Sorry for the rant... I'm just getting so angry at all of this.

This is no time for honesty and truth, there is an election on! There is too damn much at stake to start harping on honesty and ethics! Damnit! Can't you see there is a war on? Either you support the war against the heathens or you are a heathen yourself! We don't need honest trustworthy politicians, we need people that are so skilled at lying and lining their pockets that the bad guys will instantly envy us and want to join our side!
