Another Palin Lie: Claimed She Took Pay Cut As Mayor, Actually Got Raise

One thing Sarah Palin cites as proof of her reform credentials is a pay cut she says she took when she became Mayor of Wasilla in 1996.

"As mayor I took a voluntary pay cut, which didn't thrill my husband; and then as governor I cut the personal chef position from the budget, and that didn't thrill my hungry kids," Palin said recently, repeating a frequent refrain.

But did she really get an overall pay cut as mayor? The record suggests a more complex story.

WOW how many lies is this? And we are so mean to her because we want her to answer questions. I can't believe that there is a salary at all for a town of that size. I think the only mayor in the state of Oregon that gets paid anything is the Mayor of Portland. I know in my city and the neighboring cities all of which have populations far exceeding Wasilla, It is volunteer.

A person should be able to determine or estimate Govenor Palin's wages during that period from her tax returns and related documents. Perhaps that's another reason the McCain campaign is reluctant to release them.

You got me. Perhaps we should focus on any "I" statements made by Palin. I have yet to discover a statement made by Palin about Palin that is true. She reminds me of the compulsive liar character that once dominated SNL in the 1980s.
