The senator from Illinois is ahead of McCain in national polls by 3 percentage points, 47 percent to 44 percent. Obama was up by 2 points in the poll of polls released earlier Thursday.

I have said all along and will continue to say this race is not close and will not be close in the end. These polls cannot account for the massive registration and cell phone users (mostly younger voters) that will be voting for Obama. McCain's biggest mistake was choosing Palin instead of Romney as his VP pick. He went for the let me change the storyline instead of let me chose the guy/gal that will over time make the case to the American people. It was a longshot at best, but Palin, for god's sake!!!

YAY OBAMA!

ALL THE WAY OBAMA!

Intangibles that aren't measured in polls all favor Obama heavily. Both campaigns know that. Add 3-5 pct to every swing state for Obama. It's why McCain is desperately flailing.

again yesterday watched Rachel Maddow interviewing Sen Webb, McCain is in the lead 48 to 41 bama....who are they polling??

the largest populations in VA are in the Northern and Southeastern regions who are pro-Obama, there's a huge AA population in the southeastern portion of VA....how is McCain ahead???

Webb made no comments about it...especially given McCain's anti-military voting record.

I honestly don't believe they're polling African Americans, at least not significantly. Either our vote is taken for granted and somehow calculated in the equation, or we just don't count!! :(

score1, are you related to Joseph McCarthy or John McCain?

The use of that vile word to slander people may have been relevant 50 years ago but apparently your mindset like McCain is out dated.

Seems Paulsen/McCain/bush are the biggest communists in American history. Privatizing the carcasses of all the crashed banks so we can foot the bill. Yes socialize Wall Street, but scream bloody murder about doing the same for the medical insurance system.

Its the electrol map that counts. And going by the electoral map, it is McCain that is leading, with a lot of blue states in play, -Pennsylvania, Michigan, Minnesota, Wisconsin, New Hampshire. Come November, Obama will be back in the Senate, while President-elect McCain will be fine tunning his cabinet.

"Its the electrol map that counts."

Shouldn't it be the issues that count? How do they compare on the issues? I guess it depends what day it is and what time if it's McCain.

They're dead horses! They've already been beaten to death and are a non-issue! Of course, Hannity and his ilk are still trying to resuscitate them, but it's a futile effort. It's over! At this point, Sean and Rush are only talking to themselves and singing to the choir. The rest of America has put these stories to rest and are moving on ... to the Keating 5 where there's still a lot of life left!

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 11:27 AM on 09/19/2008

Gee, Obama's connections to those two were beaten to death, and not so much as an ethics admonishment resulted. Unlike McCain, who barely escaped indictment in the Keating 5 scandal and WAS admonished by Congress.

Do you REALLY want to go there?

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 12:02 PM on 09/19/2008

Your right... let's be fair. Shall we start with McCain's Phil Gramm Ties in 2000 concerning this entire financial meltdown? If I were a republican, I sure wouldn't want to go THERE.

I continue to be amazed how the right winged, lapdog media refuses to say "Obama is in the lead." Granted, within the margin of error, BUT last week when McCain was ahead, did they hesitate to say he is ahead? Hell no. Not only that, they also love to ask "Whay can't Obama close the deal?" (constan line). Or...Why can't Obama get more of a lead.?" What about McCain? Why the hell can't Mr. Maverick, macho man (oh, and by the way, did you know he's a POW?) Why can't McCain get ahead? He's been in congress forever, and he can't seem o break 50 percent in the polls. What's wrong with McCain. Ha ha ha ha.,...you think we'll ever hear that? No way.

Go Obama....I have a gut feeling that with the media so hesitant and so unwilling to go negative on any aspect of McCain or his campaign, and with Obama's ground work in many of the states getting new voters, that this election will not be as close as many think.

Exactly. When he was up by 6 points in Gallup, the MSM was still asking "Why can't he seal the deal?" LOL They are transparent in their intentions. They rarely mention when he is up. they want this race to be tight and they are clearly in the pocket of the GOP.

I agree with you. The media is not doing a fair job when they constantly expect more from O while demanding very little from Mac. 46 more days though, let's stay focused. It's unfair, but the whole world is watching and I do believe disgusted by the display of obvious double standards. I believe Barack will win by 5-6 points anyway.

Also, I have a gut feeling that Obama will win at least by a minor landslide but I'm sure not taking it for granted. Most of the polls are biased, kind of like the way a handicap works in gold. I'm convinced that most of them are "spotting" McCain at least 3-5 percentage points if not more. It's not that they actually do "funny math." Their bias seems to lie mainly in the make-up of their samples and also their methodology and even the actual questions they ask. Face it. The media including pollsters are basically afraid of Karl Rove. That's the only explanation I can think of.

While I support O, McCain will win the tough States, like Wisconsin, and the election. The momentum for O is going in the wrong direction despite what the polls report--based on my contacts with everyday folks. Only Hillary could counter Palin's positive effect, and she hasn't or won't.

See this from McCain's rally in Green Bay yesterday:

I am not so sure about this. Say what you want about McCain, he has done brilliantly with Sara Palin. There are still many weeks to election. He will try to pull another stunt in that time. Maybe Bush will accidentally drop a bomb on South Ossetia or somewhere a terrorist cell will suddenly appear to blow up LA. Or the government will give a trillion dollars to big banks so that stock skyrockets again.

Something will happen.

As a "move in the game" it was brilliant. As an actual intelligent choice of a running mate, McCain's selection of Palin s.ucks big time. (But then, one does not expect intelligence or consistency from somebody like McCain.) This year, I think, there's not just going to be an "October surprise" but "the surprise of the month." Palin was the August Surprise. The current financial crisis is the September Surprise. Who knows what the classic "October Surprise" will be?

BannedInBoston is right. That is the problem: McCain made it abundantly clear that he is in this to win. All the rest be damned. VP pick was a big opportunity and he used it to the fullest. Unfortunately for him, he could not time that event too much. So he is plotting the next move now and this one better under his control. The stock shock is another unplanned event so he took a heavy hit. Apparently he is not very good at reacting to the real world. But he and his party has proven masters of fictional issues that move the electorate.

The next event, and I am by far not smart enough to guess what it might be, will be better timed for November. remember, all he need is a few days at election. After that, even if he proves to be lying his ass off to get that high, it will be over.

McCain has done brilliantly? You had me, until you mentioned that. McCain is a mess, and the only reason he still has some life left in that joke of a campaign, is because of the dwindling novelty of Super Sarah.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 11:11 AM on 09/19/2008

Why does anyone believe an October "surprise" would benefit the gops? The September "surprise" didn't? In the long run, it is doubtful that the August "surprise" did either. I've spoken with a fair amount of undecideds who moved to Obama after Cain chose Palin.

McCain is laughable. He says Obama is the problem with Washington but he is the one that has been there for 26 years.
