John McCain has been all over the map recently, especially when it comes to the economic crisis that's been hammering Wall Street. He also managed to make some interesting - or rather, bizarre - remarks about Spain on Wednesday. See more articles below on McCain's actions over the last few weeks.

McCain Remarks Appear To Reject Spain As Ally:

Late Wednesday night, news made its way from the other side of the Atlantic that John McCain, in an interview with a Spanish outlet, had made a series of bizarre responses to a question regarding that country's prime minister.

"Would you be willing to meet with the head of our government, Mr. Zapatero?" the questioner asked, in an exchange now being reported by several Spanish outlets.

McCain proceeded to launch into what appeared to be a boilerplate declaration about Mexico and Latin America -- but not Spain -- pressing the need to stand up to world leaders who want to harm America.

McCain Flip-Flops On AIG Bailout: Rejects It Tuesday, Says It's Okay Wednesday:

Republican presidential candidate John McCain, a day after flatly rejecting the idea of a taxpayer bailout for American International Group Inc., said Wednesday that the government had been "forced" into proposing an $85 billion loan to the nation's largest insurer.

McCain appeared to soften his opposition to the bailout proposed by the Federal Reserve, treating the plan as a necessary evil to protect ordinary Americans with finanical ties to AIG and asserting that such a financial collapse should not be allowed to happen again. He also called for an investigation to uncover any wrongdoing.

NY Times: McCain All Over The Place On The Economy:

On Monday morning, as the financial system absorbed one of its biggest shocks in generations, Senator John McCain said, as he had many times before, that he believed the fundamentals of the economy were "strong."

Hours later he backpedaled, explaining that he had meant that American workers, whom he described as the backbone of the economy, were productive and resilient. By Tuesday he was calling the economic situation "a total crisis" and denouncing "greed" on Wall Street and in Washington.

McCain Slams Wall Street "Fat Cats" Who Are His Biggest Donors:

John McCain struck a tough, quasi-populist pose this morning during his morning sweep of the television news shows. Speaking to NBC's Matt Lauer about the current crisis on Wall Street, the Republican nominee said executives have "treated it like a casino and need to be held accountable and stop walking away with these fat-cat packages."

Leave aside for the moment the fact that one of McCain's top economic advisers, former Hewlett Packard CEO Carly Fiorina, walked away with a $42 million "golden parachute" after being fired. Overall, the generic Wall Street "fat cat" is a tough character for McCain to cast as his nemesis, given his success in fundraising among their ranks. As Bloomberg reported Monday night, securities and investment companies have collectively donated millions to both McCain and Barack Obama.

Time's Joe Klein: "Increasing Numbers Of Otherwise Sober Observers... Are Calling John McCain A Liar":

Politics has always been lousy with blather and chicanery. But there are rules and traditions too. In the early weeks of the general-election campaign, a consensus has grown in the political community -- a consensus that ranges from practitioners like Karl Rove to commentators like, well, me -- that John McCain has allowed his campaign to slip the normal bounds of political propriety. The situation has gotten so intense that we in the media have slipped our normal rules as well. Usually when a candidate tells something less than the truth, we mince words. We use euphemisms like mendacity and inaccuracy ... or, as the Associated Press put it, "McCain's claims skirt facts." But increasing numbers of otherwise sober observers, even such august institutions as the New York Times editorial board, are calling John McCain a liar. You might well ask, What has McCain done to deserve this? What unwritten rules did he break? Are his transgressions of degree or of kind?

The reason McBush changes his positions so often [read flip-flop] is he is trying to convince the unwashed masses that he is a true "agent for change".

McCain says he'll only meet with foreign leaders who agree with him.

Is he nutz or just demented?

This increasingly seems the most likely explanation. Age + personality change + memory loss = ? Or, maybe he was a not-too-bright phony all along.

Palins acceptance of the nomination...UNPATRIOTIC!

Since I love to watch body language, I always turn the sound down and watch. See the First Dude yesterday try and stay awake during McCain's speech. Best shot was the look he was sneaking to the attractive blond on McCain's other side. Why do I turn off the sound, because I am so sick of the Bridge to Nowhere and Maverick and POW. Of course the best body language is Cindy.......the deer in the headlights stare is a classic. Why is it when Obama smiles, I smile, when McCain smiles I feel alittle sick to my stomach? Well hell I know why......because I am for REAL CHANGE and I have attached to the one giving it. If you can't feel the pride I do in Obama with your candidate McCain then you are missing the joy of backing someone for president and feel like I did for so many elections that it didn't make a difference. What a joy it is to really back someone and dream of change....haven't felt this way since JFK.

I know exactly how you feel...such pride, such admiration, such respect for Barack, and yes, sooo much joy to give of myself and my resources to help realize our dreams for the future of our nation, with Barack at the helm of the ship. After the night terror of the past 8 years...to think that such beautiful dreams are even possible again...

I used to wonder if McCaine's mental and physical capacity would be enough to take him through 4 years as president.

Now I wonder if his declining ability to even stay coherent without notes that he is having an increasingly harder and harder time just to read make me wonder if it will last him through the campaign.

Ladies and Germs, it's all very simple: John McCain has an undiagnosed and untreated case of PTSD. Couple that with advancing age and penchant for mendacity.....et viola!

And you may ask yourself
How do I work this?
And you may ask yourself
Where is that large automobile?
And you may tell yourself
This is not my beautiful house!
And you may tell yourself
This is not my beautiful wife!

I truly believe that the years that John McCain spent in a North Vietnamese prison camp has taken its toll; let me explain.

I'm a 62-year-old Vietnam Veteran who spent most of 1968 on the DMZ. On Sept. 16, 1968 I was severely wounded. Thirty-five years later I was diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). The symptoms? Erratic behavior, angry outbursts, problems with anger management, extreme mood swings and a nasty temper and a penchant for smashing things and punching holes in walls.

I'm getting treatment, but it's a long slow process. But, I'm not running for president of the United States; I'm never going to have my finger on the nuke button or have a huge armed force at my disposal. I will never negotiate a peace treaty with a hostile nation, and I will never have the power to invade a sovereign nation that has done nothing to cause us harm. I will never be in a position to insult and alienate one of our close allies.

But John McCain will.

Even his choice of a light-weight running mate with marginal experience at best, calls his judgment into question and is enough to make any intelligent person vote against him.

Thank you, Atomicjim for your comments. Right on.

It is obvious that McCain's brain is drifting all over the place. I am glad the polls are now back to Obama in the lead. Sarah Palin is a joke as a VP choice, and now the whole world can see that. Her Alaskan Barbie responses speak volumes.

There is also a mounting opposition to Sarah Palin from the wonderful people of Alaska who know her best. That 80% approval rating being thrown around has about as much truth to it as Sarah Palin having Foreign Policy experience because she can see Russia. Ed Schultz had a town hall meeting in Anchorage last Saturday. It was eye opening. So was the anti-Palin rally on Sunday in Alaska.

I hope that Republicans will not vote party but put THEIR country first. There is no way this team is a good choice for America.

I am 58 and just not who I used to be. I don't have the energy I use to and I have enough senior moments to keep me humble. I certainly do not want someone who is 14 years older than I am in charge of the country. Besides, he just doesn't look well. Who ever designed the background at the GOP convention needs to get into another line of work. He looked pasty white and sick against that green or blue screen.

The American people are smarter than this and we need to prove it on November 4.

Someone asked why Cindy always travels with John McCain. several years ago, before 2000, in an article, it was said that he needs her with him because, due to his POW injuries, he cannot dress himself and he needs her help. I don't know if this is true or not, but at the time, he wasn't running for anything, it was just a sympathetic article about a senator, a former POW, and interesting, surprising things he has to deal with. Then they talked about how he couldn't bend his one arm and that Cindy helps him dress.

Well, enough people honor his service, so he figures he doesn't need to honor others...

Yeah, five-and-a-half-years, I THINK WE GET IT NOW! Let him release his full medical records (and her tax records) and we can all judge for ourselves. Until then, pure speculation.

BTW, he was then, and has since, run for Senator, getting sympathy for his POW status is his fall-back position for any attack.
