Jobs

In another sign of how John McCain is trying to turn the political world on its head (in which he is a populist and the Democrats have been setting the agenda for the last eight years) his campaign put out an ad on Friday blaming Barack Obama for the outsourcing of American jobs.

Titled "Overseas," the spot accuses the Illinois Democrat of pursuing policies that make it prohibitively expensive for business to operate domestically. In this case, the ad is tailored for a Michigan audience.

"Michigan manufacturing jobs are going overseas," the narrator says. "Barack Obama and his liberal allies are to blame. When manufacturers needed help making health care more affordable, they voted no. So jobs go overseas. Help to reduce energy costs? No. More jobs overseas. Lower taxes? No. Even more jobs overseas. They don't understand. Their votes cost Michigan jobs."

Keep in mind that the overwhelming majority of the job losses in Michigan and other Midwestern states have occurred under the administration of Republican President George W. Bush. Add to that the fact that the free trade deals considered responsible for much of this development are supported by McCain and opposed -- on the basis that there need to be more labor protections -- by Obama. And couple it with Obama's proposal to spend over $200 billion on new jobs (a program that will undoubtedly be revised in the wake of this current economic crisis and forthcoming bailout), and it is hard to see how this ad doesn't stir strenuous objection.

I honestly thought that Bush was the dirtiest, lying mofo that I had ever seen, but McCain makes Bush look like a straight shooter.

Please - get away from the keyboard for a little bit each week and help the Obama campaign.

If McCain is so willing to lie during the job interview, what the hell is he going to do if he actually gets the job!

Only you can prevent forest fires.......

The jobs in Michigan were lost a very long time ago because Bush made it so damned easy for corporations to clean up in this country by leaving and moving to China, Malaysia, South America and, basically, anywhere but here.

Detroit has been a ghost town for years now. I would like to hear what McCain can do for us. Sadly, he is too busy once again dealing with non-issues. It is done. The fact that he can't face the true issue tells us he has no idea what to do. As his running mate so eloquently put it, "some things need some fixin'." What a dynamic duo!

Sorry Mr. McSame. You've told too many lies to make us think that what you say in the future will be the truth. You are old man that has cried wolf too many times. Buh bye.

Obama up by 9 in Michigan!

Electoral count 9/20/08:
fivethirtyeight.com
Obama: 303
Mcsame: 235 (read all about why Obama's numbers are much higher than expected due to cell phone polling)

Electoral-vote.com
Obama: 273
Mcsame: 265

Realclearpolitics.com (they refuse to update their electoral vote map - repub site)
so without "toss-ups"
Obama: 273
Mcsame: 265

Electoral votes are all that matters !

You're right, electoral votes are what count. But they don't happen by magic.

In order to get those votes, people need to get out and work for the Obama campaign.

Isn't this the same guy who told Michigan audiences during the Primaries, that "so sorry my friends but your jobs aren't coming back"? Now he says that not only are they not coming back, but that evidently Barack Obama swooped in and stold each and every one of those jobs to deliver personally to some person in China or India, all by himself. Does John McCain even begin to understand how stupid he sounds? I know the Republican party depends heavily on the usually uninformed nature of the American populace, but does he really think that even the most remote backwoods bumpkin living in this country doesn't think his outrageous arguments sound just a little fishy?

At www.fivethirtyeight.com it is Obama 303.1 Obama to 234.9 McCain This is a good site, I look at it and Realclearpolitics. Then there is the http://www.dailykos.com/ . They have their own tracking poll..which is Obama 50 and Mccain 42.

No, I think its supposed to be referring to Democrats voting for schemes for employers to provide healthcare i.e because those nasty greedy workers wanted employer assisted health coverage their poor besieged bosses had to ship their jobs off to China and India where costs are lower.

Yeah, they have conned a lot of people to think it was healthcare and high taxes here in america that made the jobs go. They didn't happen to mention, cheap commie labor, free trade that Johnnie voted for, tax incentives to leave the republicans voted for.

The neofools want to have it both ways. Obama's either this consummate politician who has been there forever, deserves credit for hundreds of laws passed that are effecting our country, upon whom they have chosen to lay blame for everything but the weather, OR, he's the one they accuse of being an empty suit, who's done nothing in 12 years as a politician, and is just an inexperienced thin resumed junior senator.

Obviously both descriptions are glaringly FALSE, but besides the obvious LIES, can't the McCamp even make up their mind on which LIE to use given that the two are mutually exclusive?

Oh, what am I saying, it's ludicrous to expect coherence from a bunch of LIARS!

I'm from Michigan and they are not educated in economics, but they do have common sense. The die hards that will vote on abortion will vote republican. The rest will think this ad is bunk.

I always wondered what happened to the Howdy Doodie puppet. Now I know.

Considerable plastic surgery turned it into John McCain.

It's hard to see the puppet strings - but they're there. They lead to several former Bush operatives who pull the strings and tell John what to say - regardless of whether or not what he is saying has any remote connection to the truth.

If you watch carefully, you will see Howdy...er...McCain look down at the list of talking points his puppeteers have carefully laid out for him.

It doesn't matter what McCain says or how outrageous it seems - he doesn't necessarily mean it or not mean it. It's all scripted for him. I doubt he even thinks about or questions what he's about to say. He just reads it and spews it.

It amazes me how much the "inexperienced" (McCain's term) Obama accomplished in such a short period of time. McCain's ability to talk out of both sides of his mouth is astounding!
