The RNC communications shop just sent out an email blasting the Obama campaign for "invoking the crisis on Wall Street" in a fundraising email.

Here's the statement from Alex Conant of the RNC:

"This is the definition of political opportunism - not leadership. It raises serious questions about Obama's judgment when millions of Americans are losing their jobs and savings, and his response is to ask for a campaign contribution. ... The crisis on Wall Street should be a bipartisan call for government reform - not a selfish call for political contributions."

Either this is purely faux outrage, or the RNC hasn't been reading the McCain campaign's emails, which also brag about McCain's leadership on the Wall Street crisis and ask for donations.

In a series of state-focused emails sent out by the campaign yesterday, supporters are encouraged to "Help John McCain and Sarah Palin run full steam ahead by donating! To provide your generous gift, click here."

Just below the solicitation, supporters are guided to stories such as, "McCain Promises to 'Clean Up Wall Street,'" featuring McCain's line, "The American economy is in a crisis. It is in a crisis."

The McCain email also links to the campaign's recent ad "Dome," which begins, "When our economy's in crisis, a big government casts a big shadow on us all. Obama and his liberal Congressional allies want a massive government, billions in spending increases, wasteful pork."

Clearly, Team McCain is fishing for some facts to justify its (apparently baseless) claim that, as McCain put it, "Sen. Obama's own advisers are saying that the crisis will benefit him politically."

They'll need to keep looking.

Two points:

(1) Exactly what is worng with seeing a disastrous situation unfold and saying to those who are concerned "give me support - financial or otherwise - and I believe I can improve things"? It seems to me that only someone who is either (a) cynically dishonest or (b) unable to comprehend the hypocrisy of their position, would suggest anything wrong in that line of action.

(2) It may be that John McCain is cynically dishonest and that would be a grave concern. On the other hand even if he is not, his campaign certainly seem to be casting him in that light. Either way, that leaves the obvious concern that he doesn't seem to realise what a liar he is allowing himself to be portrayed as.

Is it possible that McCain is incapable of comprehending what his campaign is doing - which would explain why a man who set out to portray himself as a straight talking guy is campaigning in such unethical fashion?

Joking apart - because on so many levels this is a serious issue for the nation and the individual - is McCain genuinely losing the mental capacity required for this campaign and the role he seeks?

It would be a great personal tragedy if it were to be the case but - as he himself says - "the nation comes first"

I have always been a believer that if this country was to move into the next millenium it would take a black man to do it. As you have noticed the repubicans are trying to saddle him with an impossible task of bringing this country back from the dead. They know that McCain has no possible way of winning this election so they are throwing the kitchen sink at Obama before he gets into office. It's their way of saying take this n......... But as Obama said they don't know who their messing with.

This sort of garbage only encourages Obama's supporters to give more to him...that's why last month he pulled in the most donations ANY campaign has EVER made. The more they lie and attack, the more they help Obama raise money!

Not only that. But could it be that not being God, he was unable to foresee the a*s* dropping out of the share market. Doubtless campaign contributions are worked out well before the actual day of the fund raising.

He saw this coming in 2007 when he sponcered bills to put a halt to this madness. He also tryed to put a bill through in 2005 and the republicans laughed at hin. He also tryedd to stop the housing meltdown a year befor it happened when he sent a letter to the treasury sec and the head odf the fed and they laughed at him again because they thought he was just some young senator trying to make a name for himself. Well look at what we are dealing with now.

Obama raised the money because he has one of the most focused campaigns in modern history. One thing you must know is that when you attend schools like Columbia and Harvard it is the gateway to success and numerous contacts you will never encounter from other universities. Oh I forgot Yale and Oxford and Vassar and Bennett and well you get the picture.

John McCain is a hypocrite with Alzheimers.

DEMAND that we see his medical records.
He's hiding that he's been diagnosed, but his symptoms are becoming more obvious each and every day.

Perhaps it is the result of his POW treatment, but the man has lost all honor, and is losing what few marbles he has left.

John McCain is the most dishonorable and dishonest campaign candidate I have ever witnessed.

He is desperate and on his last leg and will do and say anything to win. I feel for him and the damage Bush has done to him. This is a token jesture that the republican party is doing for him. They are aware that he has no way of winning this election.

Hey John, if you're trying to go for the "working-class" look, try wearing some shirts that aren't at least a size too big!

Is it just me - or has anyone else noticed that in all pictures of McCain lately his smile is getting especially grimaced and his eyes are starting to take on that round glass quality like a doll?

I'm not being sarcastic. I found myself flipping from photo to photo, including the one for this article, and there's something going on with this facial expression. I can't explain better than that. It's doll like. Does anyone else see what I'm seeing? Feel free to tell me to hush up.

I actually think he's been investing in botox or acid facial treatments to try and ward off the years...

Nope, it's there. Stage three Altzheimer's, I'd guess. I have no idea what they are giving him to keep him standing, but it's not helping him think or talk. He cannot carry on a conversation, he thinks Spain is in South America, he blames Obama for the economy when HE and Bush (and Gramm) ruined it....and he better hire a food taster, 'cause Sarah has already flipped the ticket to Palin/McCain.

That comment of hers was one of the best examples of a Freudian slip I have ever witnessed. And it's recorded for posterity, if we have one.

I thought he may have had (McCain) a badly botched piece of facial surgery. A mouthful of cotton wool? A couple of dental extractions, hopefully without anaesthesia.! Tonsilitus? (spelled wrong).
Mumps?

Pigs are smart and clean and have nothing in common with the gops. The way they are treated in factory farms is a disgrace to the entire nation.
