St. Petersburg Times:

Five weeks ago, the St. Petersburg Times convened a group of Tampa Bay voters who were undecided about the presidential election. Their strong distrust of Barack Obama suggested it was a group ripe for John McCain to win over.

Not anymore. The group has swung dramatically, if unenthusiastically, toward Democrat Obama. Most of them this week cited the same reason: Sarah Palin.

Generally missing from Sarahahaha's resume is the fact she chaired a 527 for Sen. Ted Stevens. Of course, he's the one indicted for various crimes involving trading favors for financial gain in Alaska and she's distancing herself with the help of a snoozing, maybe complicit, press..

PBS POLL:

Fun With Online Polls

by tristero

I know that online polls are silly, biased, and prove nothing. Still, as PZ Myers' efforts to zap creationist polls by sending his blog readers to vote the pro-science choice demonstrates, it's always fun to skew them in our favor.

NOW at PBS has an especially silly poll:
Do you think Sarah Palin is qualified to serve as Vice President of the United States?
As I write this at 4:11 AM (don't ask), it is running 54 Yes to 44 No, and that can only mean that the lunatics on the right are playing games. In the spirit that the right should get away with nothing, ever, no matter how trivial, because nothing is trivial when it comes to fighting the right:

Think we might be able to do something to make that poll better reflect reality? Oh, and tell yer friends.

h/t, my pal HJ.

Your story is based on the opinions of about ten people. That is an awfully small sampling size.

If this is true, we should be doing better in Florida. If there is any state outside of the Rust belt which should be feeling the economic pinch caused by the republicans, it should be Florida

They literally should be protesting in the streets over the last 8 years considering 401K and property values are heading south in Florida.

The latest CNN poll though has McCain leading now in Wisconsin and Missouri. That's disheartening.

I guess people love being poor in Wisconsin and Missouri.

Maybe we should make all the residents of the Red States foot the entire bill for the bailout...seems fair to me

One poll doesn't mean a thing. Each poll has a significant margin of error, something the pundits never talk about. Example: If you have a margin of error of 3% like many polls have, and you have McCain at 48% and Obama at 46%, it's really that McCain's support is 95% likely to be between 45% and 51%, and Obama at 43% to 49%. So it's very likely you could have Obama at 48% and McCain at 46%. But the news media is going to go with what fits their story line best.

If you take all the polls for Wisconsin, plot them, then add in a trendline you'll have Obama at 48.5% and McCain at 43.5% on Nov 4th based on all those polls. The key is where the undecided and 3rd party votes fall.

Missouri on the other hand is McCain 48%, Obama 43%. That state was always going to be a stretch to win for Obama.

I live in Wisconsin and I can tell you that EVERYONE I know is backing Obama. The polls (if correct) will shift.

Wisconsin is historically a blue state and I know we Cheeseheads will pull through and make the right decision. I have no doubt!

I'm in Wisconsin too and I talk to Democrats and Republicans. The main difference seems to be that the Republicans don't seem at all excited about their candidate. Polls don't always capture the mood of the electorate, even when they interview 'likely voters'.

Wisconsin is weird. In 2004 their were thousands of people who voted for Bush and Feingold. In any case, I'd be surprised if Wisconsin goes Republican this time around.

Obama has never led in Missouri, as far as I know.

The real story of the Pal in rally yesterday:
From the Florida Sun
"I live in Central Florida and was at the event. The official count was 20,000 NOT 60,000 - just more exaggeration by the media. As a side note, while waiting in my car to get in, vendors were selling borderline raci$t Obama shirts which once again shows that Repub licans always take the low road. The right wing always put themselves out there as the ones with the highest family and Chri$tian values yet they spew nothing but contempt for others. It really made my skin crawl."
(I lost the link but will post as soon as I find it again!)

More lies.

"But Palin drew thousands more than the estimated 20,000 people that turned out for Bush. A fire rescue official estimated the crowd at 25,000 to 30,000, while the Republican Party of Florida pegged the audience at twice that size."
