Paltrow

Gwyneth Paltrow continues to branch out, this time with a lifestyle website. On the heels of her new PBS travel/cooking show, the actress has launched goop.com. While still minimal, the website includes a newsletter signup and a first person essay from Paltrow, a married mother of two, about what matters to her. It also features yet-to-be-filled sections called "Make," "Go," "Get," "Do," "Be," and "See."

In the essay she promises everything from tips on dining in London to advice from her "sages." Sounding a bit like her friend Oprah, with whom she recently shared her exercise routine last week, Paltrow promises to share her life with readers.

The website essay in total:

"My life is good because I am not passive about it. I want to nourish what is real, and I want to do it without wasting time. I love to travel, to cook, to eat, to take care of my body and mind, to work hard. I love being a mother who has to overcome my bad qualities to be a good mother. I love being in spaces that are clean and feel nice.

Over the years, i have tried a lot of different things. I have made lots of mistakes. But I have figured some things out in the process and I would like to share them with you. Whether you want a good place to eat in London, some advice on where to stay in Austin, the recipe I made up this week, or some thoughts from one of my sages, GOOP is a little bit of everything that makes up my life.

Make your life good. Invest in what's real. Cook a meal for someone you love. Pause before reacting. Clean out your space. Read something beautiful. Treat yourself to something. Go to a city you've never been to. Learn something new. Don't be lazy. Workout and stick with it. GOOP. Make it great."

How out of touch is she with the populous? In the midst of the largest financial crisis in our history she comes out with a web site for affluent jet-setters. "Invest in what's real" WHAT?!!! Like diamonds Gwyneth? http://www.mirror.co.uk/celebs/3am/2008/09/23/gwyneth-paltrow-in-15-000-diamond-encrusted-stilettos-115875-20748725/
And did none of her friends, let alone her agent, have the nerve to tell her that the name Goop was possibly the worst name since Apple?
Celebrities have had their day. They are as overpaid as the Queen Mum.

I think "Make," "Go," "Get," "Do," "Be," and "See" would be be more interesting and useful if it was "Make a wish" come true for a terminally ill child. "Go" out and volunteer. "Get" involved with your community. "Do" make a difference in the world. "Be" a mentor. "See" what we can all do to make a world a better place.

Maybe if she used her money and influence for a good cause the site would have more appeal.

okay. She is great. I even like her movies. But her appeal does not market to women in the Heartland at all. They do not get it. Her appeal is West coast, affluent. And while there is not anything wrong with that, she can come off as ridiculous. Really, just say "Yes, I am a UC drop out. So.?" She puts on airs and it is annoying. But like I said, I like her stuff and she should be say whatever she wants. People are just jealous.

ummm, if you hate the website or her so much, don't read it. go and find another hobby other than bashing someone whose views you don't appreciate or care about. the time you have all wasted blathering on about how useless, stupid, or vacant her website or she is obviously don't have anything else productive to do.

good for you trying to do something positive out there -- though i do know you've been known to be a bit hypocritcal + snarky (i guess we all can be at times) in your private life. still, thanks!

I read these comments and I think we're never going to have world peace. The level of self hate is just brimming over the edge. I prescribe psycho therapy for everyone!

i tried watching her new cooking show with two guys and another woman from spain. most of the time this big overweight pompous windbag and her were driving around in some mercedes talking about absolutely nothing. all it did was showcase the car, (product placement). she's going to have to do alot better than that.

"Nourish"? Reading that piece, what else can be shoveled? Saccharine, corny, and a bit B.S. as the one you love may be faking it too.

No wonder it's called "goop".

God Almighty, no kidding. Ugh.

To direct this back to something that actually matters: It's no wonder people who associate this kind of silly fru-fruism with Democrats want to run as far away from that party--_my_ party--as possible. I'm quite serious.

It's easy to get things done w/ you're born into showbusiness by both parents. And her father happened to be best friends w/ Steven Spielberg, who shockingly put Gwyie in her first role in "Hook."

"Make," "Go," "Get," "Do," "Be," and "See." I love it. Make sure your family is weathly. Go into their line of work. Be on time for your films. And last, See all the money piling up year after year. What a concept for the average Jane and Joe Public.

'am certainly not Mayflower, nor rich, nor pampered, no-silver-spoon either - just middle class working woman. Rich or Poor, we decide to be fit, sick or depressed. Do we have to be rich to be fit ?

Paltrow makes good sense - physical and mental fitness are important even to Jane and Joe. Although I recognize her advantages, and obviously do not have all the resources that she has, it should not prevent me for being physically and mentally balance. It's probably the way you look at life. But it is an individual choice.

LOL. I thought the same thing... it's easy to go traveling to new cities and what not and do as you please when you've got millions. These actors are just clueless to what it's like to be middle class and actually work for a living. Especially someone like her who was born into wealth.

Well said GQTast. I sorta lost any interest in anything she has to say after she bitched about how hard the year after she won the Oscar was (and no not her father's death). "Everybody wants a piece of me."

she could've really used that college degree.
