Barack Obama is out with a new ad Monday morning, eviscerating John McCain for an article he recently wrote calling for the health care industry to have as much regulatory freedom as its banking counterpart.

"We've seen what Bush-McCain policies have done to our economy," goes the script. "Now John McCain wants to do the same to our health care. McCain just published an article praising Wall Street deregulation... Said he'd reduce oversight of the health insurance industry too... Just 'as we have done over the last decade in banking'...Increasing costs and threatening coverage. A prescription for disaster."

The spot, titled "Article" was expected. Ever since McCain's article from the September/October edition of Contingencies Magazine was first re-posted by New York Times columnist Paul Krugman on Friday, Democrats have been chomping at the bits to ram it down McCain's throat. After all, what better way to deflate the idea that the Republican nominee, after years of pursuing deregulatory policies, all the sudden was a champion of government oversight? Or, for that matter, what better way to drive home the notion that McCain would put one's health care - not to mention Social Security - at play in a clearly erratic market.

As such, Obama had been bringing up the Contingencies piece while on the stump. The ad, which will air on cable starting Monday, is the next effort to keep the article in the national conversation.

Getting there, even for a jaded POLITV watcher like me. I like the old lady, she looks pissed. Need more.

I'm so glad there was no "more of the same" in this ad. It is a good point but it is getting old and the "risk" factor will be more effective I think. "Can't risk" is more effective than "can't afford". More dramatic.

I like that ad! Very well done and truthful! McCain is definitely VERY RISKY AND RECKLESS!

Shame on you, America!

How can this election even be close? The truth is, if BO were white, he'd be leading by 20 points.

Shame on you, America.!

Isn't 50% white good enough? Isn't being raised by white people good enough? Some people are total idiots.

I hate that argument. It implies that if he weren't "50% white" & if he were "raised by black people" the bigotry would be acceptable. You make it sound as if he's got enough "white creds" to make him "good enough". Isn't the fact that he's the best man for the job "good enough"? If someone's a bigot they're a "100% bigot". Why pick knits ?

It has been my observation - that Americans, regardless of their heritage have been conditioned to believe that the well of government leaders is supposed to be a fountain of White Protestant Males.. It may very well be our own educational material that has fostered this premise. I'm not excusing rampant racism, that is separate part of the electorate. Obama is of course half Caucasian, but that doesn't change that he's half - different. And, while not aggressive racists, a surprising segment of the US population - ethnically diverse themselves - are suspicious of their leaders being 'different' - being other than White Protestant males. it isn't the result of reasoning - it is the result of conditioning.

Just as many Americans finally realized that Rev Wright's words were a euphemism for your words - 'Shame on you, America!' - he wasn't going to get the benefit of the doubt from the mainstream because of the very same reason. (Plus the fact the reverend had a penchant for placing his entire foot in his mouth)

Change is what we need - but our Nation has always looked upon change as a 'last resort' It's part of our history. So this struggle is more important for so many reasons - and it appears the Obama Campaign has never underestimated the resolve required to be successful.

If you have ever been to an Obama rally, you would know that Obama represents ALL of the people and not just whites. You see a broad cross-section of America at his rallies. Whites, Black, Latinos, Asians, etc... Polls are just a snap-shot. Voter turnout will be higher in this election than ever before. Don't believe the hype. Just make sure you vote for change on November 4th and encourage everyone around you to do the same.

You're so right! I hate that the we have not move further along in our prejudices than this! But we need to get out and do our part and talk to people! I do still believe Obama will win this if we just all get out their and VOTE! Obama/Biden is the change we need I pray the rest of the American people realize that before it's too late!

given that McMothballs has been in the public eye for decades and this being his second run for office AND having a two month headstart in campaigning before Obama was officially the Democratic candidate, I think Obama is doing relatively well.

We all know Obama is the better candidate and has a better head on his shoulders, unfortunately for those peeps who are only just watching the campaign from the sidelines, barely tuning in to politics, Obama IS very new to them and his character has mostly been defined by his opponents. He is starting to make headway with those people though, all eyes are on him now and these ads are hitting where it hurts. Obama himself said we'll know where this campaign really stands in mid-October.

Keep it simple.

McCain is a corrupt lying typical Republican.

Obama is not.

I like how his campaign has been able to change the conversation and accurately portray the McCain ticket as the riskier choice.

great ad, keepl them coming. two things: barack OVER estimates the intelligence of the american people. alot of them need to be spoon fed. one lady i recently met is voting for mccain because she likes palin, and both she and palin have 5 kids, two of which are little girls. when i mentioned palin's stand on rape./incest, this woman couldn't believe it. my point is we need to engage the rightties and independents. that doesn't mean taking their heads off, but ask them some questions, find out a little about them, like i did the lady with two little girls, and than drive you point home. you won't convert everyone, but you'd be surpised at how many you do.

second, barack needs to close the sale, ask for our vote, tell us he needs our help and make it personal. everyone wants to feel their vote counts. finally donate, volunteer, and engage. i spoke to a lady at obama headquarters here in chicago and she said they need volunteers everywhere. get involved, it's the only way we can win.

I can't believe that foolish woman...but there are so many people who don't read the newspaper, don't read newsmagazines, don't watch the Sunday news shows. "Dancing With The Stars" and People Magazine are more their thing. Dear God, to have the fate of the nation in their hands.

johnny, Barack ends his speeches now asking the people in the audience for their help & their votes. He asks that they get in their neighbors faces who may be on the fence or Repubs and argue points with them - essentially just what you did with the woman who was taken w/ Palin for no good reason. As far as overestimating the intelligence of the American people, I think average Americans with even a low I.Q. realized last week that they have been getting bent over backwards by the Bush Admin. and Wallstreet. That doesn't take a Rocket Scientists brain to understand that and John McCain's hands was all over it.

Just this month...well in the Sept/Oct edition of Contingencies magazine McCain expresses the same sentiment concerning deregulation...calling for a market-based healthcare system

They need to define McCain and this is not the way to do it. People accross the country don't see McCain as a risk, he isn't. He is an old uncle with alot of money married to barbie, whats risky? a black guy with a name that rhymes like osama.

But he is wrong,
he doesn't get it,
he doesn't understand the issues,
he stands against the interest of the majority.

SO WHY NOT SAY SO?

HE DOES'NT GET US.
HIS POLICIES WILL HURT US THIS WAY, AND THIS IS WHAT WE PROPOSE.

G.O.P. weakness is policy, so keep pounding away at it....PLEASE...

Meredith Vierra pummeled John McCain on his flip flop from just last night on 60 minutes where he defended the deregulation of Wall St, and then this morning, said he is FOR regulation... a must see

Wow. When he is asked a direct question, he just circles around it, lies, or denies. I hope there are more interviews where he doesn't have a good strong answer. and, then its Palin's turn,

The more I see of McCain the less I like him! McCain is a phoney and liar! He talks about reforming Washington but doesn't pay attention or doesn't know the details of one of his top economic advisers past employment record? McCain scares me! If he get's in office watch out America we will be truly doomed!

You need another one on the Privatization of Social Security McCain wanted to promote with Bush...that will do our economy great...can you imagine what would have happened if Social Security was Privatized? Half of our Seniors would have had a heart attach out of what just happened.
