Barack Obama is out with a new ad Monday morning, eviscerating John McCain for an article he recently wrote calling for the health care industry to have as much regulatory freedom as its banking counterpart.

"We've seen what Bush-McCain policies have done to our economy," goes the script. "Now John McCain wants to do the same to our health care. McCain just published an article praising Wall Street deregulation... Said he'd reduce oversight of the health insurance industry too... Just 'as we have done over the last decade in banking'...Increasing costs and threatening coverage. A prescription for disaster."

The spot, titled "Article" was expected. Ever since McCain's article from the September/October edition of Contingencies Magazine was first re-posted by New York Times columnist Paul Krugman on Friday, Democrats have been chomping at the bits to ram it down McCain's throat. After all, what better way to deflate the idea that the Republican nominee, after years of pursuing deregulatory policies, all the sudden was a champion of government oversight? Or, for that matter, what better way to drive home the notion that McCain would put one's health care - not to mention Social Security - at play in a clearly erratic market.

As such, Obama had been bringing up the Contingencies piece while on the stump. The ad, which will air on cable starting Monday, is the next effort to keep the article in the national conversation.

The Financial communities have had their eyes on healthcare/Medicare and SS since deregulation to have a bonanza of currency to trade with. Bush lobbied hard for two years to privatize SS, which would have allowed him to kick the can to the next President because the monies involved w/our FICA taxes and Medicare are so HUGE. This (known) financial crisis would have been hidden has Bush succeeded -- and, early in his Campaign, McCain made privitization of both SS and healthcare a cornerstone...no doubt guided by the helpful deregulating hand of Phil Gramm of UBS.

Fortunately, the Democrats fought Bush mightily from 2004-06 and prevented this PLAN.

So, now we have a total bailout which amounts to the same thing -- courtesy of the former CEO of Goldman Sachs and George W. Bush.

If there was one accomplishment of this "do nothing" Democratic congress, it put an end to Bush's rubber stamp that he had for the prior six years.

The truth of the matter is that McCain has ALWAYS been a fan of deregulation. Right now McCain is only being a supporter of regulation because deregulation isn't going to be very popular with voters so McCain is changing his stance, for the moment.

McCain favored privatizing Social Security. In light of recent events imagine how much money average people would have lost out of their retirement if the plan McCain favored had been able to pass.

McCain also favors letting the "free market" take care of the health care problems in this country. I'm still not sure what that means besides fat cats getting fatter while sick people get sicker.

So what I think most people should see is that the policies that McCain support are not only selfish and wrong but dangerous for America.

Isn't that called a Flip-Flop? Remember 2004? Throw it right back in their faces.

McCain and the Republicans don't understand that this is a government of, by, and for the people, and the people have a right to regulate the conduct of all business, particularly those that affect them on the level of health and wealth. Wall Street has been fraudulent and reckless because no one was watching the store. If every mom and pop grocery can hire a security guard, so should the United States of America. Our taxes and nest eggs are not a giveaway or to be plundered.

Mediocre, not accusatory enough, no urgency for change.

Once again please, only this time with some passion and fear mongering about the economy.

Right. You have to scare the voters. The McCain campaign uses scare tactics. Scare them right back. Privatizing Social Security. Hit him with that one in the first debate and don't let him squirm out of it.

Obama has to gain from this latest McCain blunder. McCain is spinning his wheels in the patch of mud he's driven himself into and he needs to be left there long enough for people to realize it before being "rescued" by the not so subtle corporate interests of the MSM.

If the MSM allows McCain to slide on this, there needs to be nothing short of a full out boycott of network television and the "Big 5" that owns them. Hit them where it hurts; in their WALLETS.
It's the only thing they understand.

I knew there was something fishy about Eliot Spitzer's prosecution after he published a warning about predatory lending in the Washington Post. Note that the Bush Administration stopped states from pursuing this.
