Athletes To Donate Brains To Concussion Study

New York Times:

N.F.L. players are lionized every Sunday for giving their bodies to the sport. Now, some retired players are planning to literally give their brains to a new center at Boston University's School of Medicine devoted to studying the long-term effects of concussions.

Well, here was a liberal with brains.

They will purchase them on the Chinese black market - McCain/Bush are already in negotiations with the Chinese to help their favorite players to acquire the brains needed to meet these donations.

So they need actual brains to prove that two players knocking their heads together at a combined speed of 30+ mph causes brain damage? Go figure. When they scientifically prove that obvious fact, then what? Are they going to ban football? How will males express their machismo without football? We live in a violent society, where males feel the need to prove their manliness. Football -- much like the Roman gladiators -- fills that need.

Personally, I never felt the need to play organized football. I have seen too many young men sustain life-altering injuries while engaging in organized football. They were willing to trade a healthy life for a few moments of glory basking in the limelight while carrying a football down a field in front of a crowd of people. One blind-sided low hit will destroy a knee, or a sharp blow to the head can result in life-long mental problems. The brain is such a vulnerable organ, yet we send our little boys out onto the gridiron to smash their heads together. Hmmm....
