If you happened to catch The View this afternoon, you likely marveled at Bill Clinton's ability to call the 2008 election for Barack Obama without actually suggesting that Obama, as a candidate, had any particular quality that would enable the win, which would instead come about through a confluence of happy electoral accidents. The former president, let us say, is nothing if not consistent in his sense of party loyalty, where party=the party in his pants.

Apparently, Bill Clinton managed to be even more of an undermining douche coy about his support for the Democratic nominee on tonight's iteration of The Late Show With David Letterman, because something inspired his fellow guest, comedian Chris Rock, to remark, "Boy, is it me or he didn't want to say the name Barack Obama?" From there, Rock went into a lengthy harangue about Hillary Clinton ("I love Hillary, but she lost...The Patriots got a lot of points, too, but they lost"), before finally referring to Sarah Palin's Alaska as "Road Warrior with snow."

Looks like someone's not going to be playing any Clinton Global Initiative benefits anytime soon!

To use the vernacular, Bill just dissed the Democratic nominee big time.

Bill Clinton would rather us suffer for more years so that his wife can win, than support Barack Obama.
Simply disgraceful!

I agree. That's the key point. Bill Clinton is totally out of touch with the pain people are suffering.

I remember him saying "I feel your pain" in 92. Now he's just become a pain in the arse.

Let's see how he performs on Jon Stewart.

Bill Clinton is a coward. He's afraid to come out unequivocally and endorse Palin/McCain.

Well, I hate to say it, but that is the truth. He's got 2012 on his mind only.

chris rock recipe for"comedy", raise the pitch of your voice, repeat the same sentence or fragment repeatedly at the top of your lungs, laugh like it's funny, grin while begging the audience for acceptance. genius.

I have no problem with Hilary. I think she is really committed to helping Obama win. But Bill........please spare us. I voted for you twice. I was a supporter of you wife. But she lost. And some comments you made actually hurt her campaign.

Now as the saying goes.....sheet or get off the pot. If you can't support Obama then go back to your house and shut up.

Your wife is and will be just fine and an important figure in history. Don't soil your history Mr. President. Just be quiet.

I'm in total agreement with you.

Chris Rock is only calling more attention to this, which is not helpful to Obama. Reminds me of the white preacher who attacked Hillary. Doesn't help Obama for these people to be raging.

Telling the truth about Hillary's loss is helpful to Obama. The tiny percentage of denial filled holdouts are unsalvageable. No one has hurt the Clintons, more than the Clintons.

If Obama gets all of his primary votes and all of Hilary's, he still needs at least 20 million more to win. Those are the ones I fear are put off by Rock's ravings. This isn't about the Clintons. Its about winning the White House.

"these people"? sounds like racist code to me

Sometimes the truth needs to be said. People need to call out WJC for his bullshit. Either endorse McCain/ Palin - of whom he is so fond even though McCain called his daughter (only child) ugly - or enthusiastically support Obama, his party nominee. This is bullshit politics being played by WJC!

It's not about Bill Clinton's hurt feelings. Or Bill Clinton vs. Barack Obama. It's about US. And Mr. "I feel your pain" is apparently too self-absorbed right now to help us.

Bill, just go away. We'll do it ourselves. Thanks.

2000 Question: Why didn't Al Gore ask Bill Clintion to campaign for him?

2008: We have the answer.

Good move Al, with BC on your side, you would have had a negative vote total!

Chris nailed him! Anyone, that don't see Slick Willie's passive-aggressive pouting for what it is, is a blubbering idiot! That's the funniest thing on TV for quite some time. Don't even get me started on Moosejaw Molly. sheesh!

I was LMAO @ Letterman's obvious nervousness. With a few short words Rock showed Clinton for the petty, anger filled, living in denial, dog in the manger that he is.

Instant classic, pure hilarity, bullseye.

WIth "friends" like Bill, who needs enemies? Also, Bill, what sane candidate would've picked Hillary as a VP with you as her baggage? I admire Hillary - even voted for her in a primary - but Obama was right not to pick her as VP because you cannot stand to shut your mouth and let her be her own fantastic self. Also, for all those people playing Monday morning quarterback and saying that Obama should've picked Hillary because she could have gone head to head with Palin --- you all forget that if Obama had picked Hillary as VP, McCain would never have picked Palin. He would have gone with white, conservative man (like Romney).

Bill, you were amazing at the Denver convention. Go with that and stick with it. Don't do a disservice to our country, party and wife.

Obama '08.

Great piece of writing Mr. Linkins.
