Mccain Oops

This afternoon, John McCain gave his first press conference in nearly six weeks, answering only a few questions and totally punting on the most important issue facing the country: the need to help average American families hit hard by the economy.

On the bailout package, McCain said that he thinks a bailout must be must be enacted soon, warning of dire consequences if Congress fails to act.

On the question of whether taxpayers must be protected and whether there must be oversight, McCain adopted the key points of Barack Obama's plan.

Unlike Obama, however, McCain offered no plan to put in place new regulations that would prevent a crisis like this from ever happening again.

The Obama campaign took McCain to task for his baseless attacks on Obama's response to the financial crisis.

"Contrary to the lies told by the McCain campaign, it was John McCain who followed Senator Obama's lead in laying out principles that call for strict oversight and accountability, protecting taxpayers, and cracking down on CEO pay. We only wish he had adopted those same principles over the last 26 years rather than cheerleading for the deregulation agenda that helped produce today's crisis and repeatedly opposing limitations on the obscene compensation given to failed CEOs," said Obama-Biden spokesman Hari Sevugan.

McCain also failed to address the economic crisis facing Main Street.

Asked by a reporter if he would support the Democratic stimulus plan, McCain refused to answer, instead focusing on his plan to cut spending and taxes. In fact, McCain didn't use a line that he had said just yesterday, that any plan must "help homeowners stay in their homes" -- a telling omission.

McCain also wasn't totally in command of his words during the press conference. At one point, McCain badly mangled his words, urging that we "grow this government...not grow the economy." Here's video of that moment:

And here's video of McCain punting in response to the question about the Democratic stimulus package for Main Street:

Same as Bush, same as every other Republican.... the Republican cure-all is tax cuts for corporations and the wealthy.

This old dog hasn't learned.

Oh, the irony...

Wow, his age is definately showing... Am I the only one that noticed this? I have some experience on this, having a father that was 61 years older than me, I can recall some of the same things happening to my father as he was getting older.

So, all the jobs in the USA are going to Ireland? I think that is what the senator said right? Well, I can´t wait for St. Patrick´s Day!

The crisis in Wall Street will not be solved by lower taxes... but with true leadership. It is obvious McCain has no clue about it. He just seems to repeat the same talking points over and over!

Well, America, show that you are not dumb, don´t be fooled by the Republicans one more!

Is it just me or do you think that McCain is doing something to his hair color? I mean, no-one has hair as white and shiny as that naturally. It borders on weird-looking.

John McSame is just so entertaining to watch, Im as Right Wing of a Republican as you could possibly get and Im voting for Obama/Biden in 08' because between the media blackout lobbyist campaign advisors, and having one of the most despised ceo's serving as his campaign director(Carly Fiorina) this woman outsourced thousands of jobs and nearly led HP down the drain, and john mccan't championed the same derugulation mandates that allowed her and everyother exec on wallstreet to escape un harmed with their pockets lined up and now hes against it?And I would love to know what foreign policy credentials McSame has...he was wrong about Iraq, Mistated the true eficacy of the surge even though it wasnt even originally proposed by him(roy blunt actually initiated it with ground work done by tony snow) and from my recollection the last war he fought in We LOST!!!!.... Im white and I culd care less about race Im voting for Obama so my kids could go to college and actually have an economy to work in when they graduate.

You my friend, are in the minority of Republicans than come to Huffpost to blog/post. You actually know how to think outside the box, and aren't blindly loyal to a party running on antiquated platforms and agendas. I commend you sir, for voting on the issues, and not the silly on the surface stuff.

Hey, what about Main Street, McCain??? Most of us do not live a life of luxury, nor are we part of your Wall Street! Enough of the greedy big wigs trying to dump their problems on us. It won't happen, not this time!

I watched this latest video and all I saw was a "Cartoon Character" who could be the "Offspring" of Daffy Duck.

You see how he peered at the guy asking the question of whether or not he would support the stimulus package?

"Bless my soul, there be Hessians coming over the ridge!"

This is what I'm most afraid of when considering a McCain win for the presidency...he will confuse the nuclear button for the "Help, I've fallen and I can't get up" button!!!
11:12 AM on 09/24/2008
Mr. President, the button on the right is the nukes button and the one on the left is the easy botton. One is for all out war and one is for all out of paper. Got it?

So, if I need paper nukes which one do I push?
09:54 AM on 09/24/2008
And stil people want this guy to be president. Why?
10:15 AM on 09/24/2008
Because they just don't know. Both of my parents (especially my father) are planning on voting for McCain. They just don't do the research, so they don't know what's going on. I've been able to sway my mother somewhat into not just going for McCain, (We're a military family, and unfortunately they both believe that Democrats don't know squat about the military, and are worried about it.) but I'm hoping that the debate will give them reason to double-check.

Phate, perhaps you could remind your parents that Democrats have a history of doing things FOR people, (you might cite FDR as a beginner), and Republicans usually do things TO us , after they take care of their friends in banking, etc.....
10:46 AM on 09/24/2008
Because they lack "Common Sense".

This is very scary. People paying attention with concern for their futures can obviously see McCain is simply unfit to run a lemonade stand let alone a country. Age and prehistoric economic policies are wrapped around his neck like a lead weight.

The scary part is half of the country can't or won't see if for what it is and what looms is a lot worse than the past 8 since I would equate McCain to Geoge Bush with out as much intelligence.

If you watch and listen carefully enough you'll realize that from change to the financial crisis, many of McCain's platforms are morphing into Obama's.
08:56 AM on 09/24/2008
he's auditioning for the job of press secretary to an Obama administration

He is like the kid in class that constantly steals the smart kid's homework. However, when the teacher calls him to expalin the material, he can't seem to find an intelligent thought.
