Obama Hits McCain's Foreign Car Ownership

This is micro-politics, but the Obama campaign is looking for leverage in Michigan by taking McCain to task for not being truthful about the number of foreign automobiles he owns.

This Sunday, Newsweek Magazine reported that McCain owned 13 vehicles, at least four of which were not domestic. The list included a Lexus, a 2005 Volkswagen convertible, a Honda sedan and a Toyota Prius for his daughter (perhaps bought by her).

Well, the composition of this fleet didn't jibe with a remark McCain made to a Detroit television station in which he claimed that he had "bought American literally all my life."

So, what does the Obama campaign do about it? They put together a lengthy memo on the matter and release a television ad aiming to undercut McCain's straight talk reputation.

Titled "Foreign Car," the spot will air in Michigan. It may seem like small potatoes in otherwise big-themed election. But with the state polls looking tighter than ever, leverage in the car wars may mean the difference in the Electoral College count.

kloew - your spots are dead on. For the life of me, I can't figure out why Obama has so many tag lines in his ads. McCain just keeps hammering the same one "not ready to lead" -- seems to me that's how you drive your message home with this boneheaded electorate we have.

This one is better than many of the others I have seen from the Obama campaign. I have not been that impressed with Obama's ads because I don't think they are all that effective or memorable. I totally agree with you. No pch lines in Obama adds. Nothing to remember. They need to hire some folks who can make better adds. By the way your adds are very good. Good idea to add a punch line at teh end to firm teh message of the add. I will pass it on to my buddy's. Keep the good work.

Hit him every time he lies! I don't care if he lies about whether he has clean sock on or not, make it public. The man is not to be trusted and the voting public has got to have this hammered into them at every point. He will say anything to get elected and if he does get elected he will sell us all down the river. Actually, he's been working on that for quite a few years. As President, he would just have the opportunity to finish the job.

This is supposed to be a scandal? Most Hondas sold here are made in America. The Toyota is a Prius (and Prius is a Toyota brand too). Plus, he opposed bailing out the US auto industry with guaranteed loans?

* G O O D *. Ford and GM are losing craploads of money because they had no foresight and put all their research into developing ever bigger SUVs, when foreign makers were smart. Let 'em reap what they've sown. If they go the way of the Studebaker, it'll be a plus for the planet.

This ad isn't micro-politics. It's petty, silly and as far as I am concerned, irrelevant. Course, I don't live in Michigan, but I find it hard to believe that the money spent on this ad will be worth the two votes (if that many) it brings to the ticket.

You are right blindjester, my son was just laid off from Chrysler in Fenton Mo. When people drove foreign cars there to the plant they would definitely get harassed. I'm not saying it was right, but that's what they did.

The only votes McPalin can get are racists & super greedy rich. Maybe some ignorant who aren't paying attention.

Maybe there are others we'd like to see in The White House, like Ron Paul, but unfortunately none are electable at this time. Voting for them will only take away from keeping McCain from being elected.
