Original Post: Rachel Maddow has continued her impressive ratings success. After beating Keith Olbermann to be MSNBC's #1 show Tuesday night, she repeated the feat Thursday night, taking in 1.97 million viewers to Olbermann's 1.94 million. What's more, she soundly defeated Larry King in the 9pm time slot, making her the #2 show at 9pm for the week, behind Fox News' "Hannity & Colmes" (whose ratings were helped last week by the Sarah Palin interview).

I would love to see a total smack down bout between Maddow and Palin. But Palin would get to have a shot gun to even it out. Oh, and they would need to be in bikini's......

Great to see that most Americans still recognize truth in reporting and common sense in commentary. FOX rules and always will. The majority of folks commenting on this site hopefully will recognize someday how "out of touch" they are and that hate speech just doesn't cut it!

I can't believe that many people watch Larry King, he is a relevant as the telegraph. Ever see him with somone famous and young and the silly questions he asks.

"So, do you kids today still like to do the twist?" then some famous 20 something looks at hime trying to figure out what the twist is.

It is a very rare occurrence indeed when a clear minded, brilliant, self effacing, master communicator appears on the scene. Rachel is such a person.
Her show, composed of very well crafted segments; instructs, provokes thought, and outrages without being overbearing. She is a true master who uses her talents like the most capable surgeon. She coaxes the "patient "with her bright intelligent and warm personality. She then examines a matter, explains her analysis in layman’s terms and proceeds to extricate the disease for all to see. She does it all with a refreshing, non threatening manner that disarms her guests as well as the audience.
She is truly a lovely woman and an outstanding commentator. My hat is off and my heart and mind are gratefuly captured.

Yes, but there is no true knowledge or facts (most of the time) behind her commentary. Her show here will end up just like the radio network she was previously part of.....bankrupt! Everyone tires of her blowhard tone!

I couldn't agree with you more!

On a recent radio program she confided that she tears up every time she hears the national anthem. (Just like me!) How refreshing to know that she can be so many things: smart, witty, charming, informed, disarming, patriotic, liberal and at the same time hold her own on TV. She doesn't demean people of differing political persuasions, but actually tries to make a connection with them. Just look how she gets on with Pat Buchanan - rather than pick a fight, she wins his respect.

She also said on a recent radio show, in her own self-effacing way, that she would never be contender for Miss America. Well, Rachel, if I were a judge and you were competing, you would get my vote hands down. You embody what is great about this country. I am so glad that you are there to keep us informed and enlightened.

They are the "true heroes" and Americans buddy! As retired military, I assure you the 95 % at least of active duty military and veterans watch only FOX news and those shows particularly.

DVR & TiVo are here to render these (traditional) ratings meaningless and consign them to the dinosaur heap. Nothing personal against advertizers, mind you!

Well that just answered my next question. I TiVO Olbermann and Rachel nightly.

why is glenn beck still airing? must be a plant so that the network can claim it has, among liberals, an independent (lou dobbs) and glenn beck (conservative) to fill its so-called fair and unbiased reporting quota.

Why Glenn Beck is on the air is a total mistery to me. He is ignorant, shallow minded, abrasive and a total bufoon. I cannot for the life of me imagine why the dunderheads running the network have him on. O'reilly at least has character and is at times entertaining - though I cannot stand more than a minute or two. Beck? I just do not get it.

Kind of a jolt when you actually can spend an hour with a truly intelligent, quick, and witty commentator on a "news" channel. How great would it be if she helped set a new benchmark for the rest of them and they actually had to do some research and thinking before their shows. Before, we could only go to The Comedy Channel to get the needed context and perspective that news should bring us. How pathetic is that. Olberman, in my opinion, has been willing to take a bullet for everyone else in finally calling out Bush and the rest of his henchmen in a manner no one else has been willing to do. A few tweaks in his format and they will be a truly formidable duo.

She is a brilliant scholar who has the ability to do deep thinking on the fly, and ask the kind of thoughtful questions that need to be asked. She is not rude like Mathews or trying to be comedian like Keith. She is herself, an extremely talented person who has a huge upside ahead of her. Soon she will have a "real network show" on either NBC or CBS! She gets it big time!

I've been listening to RM on the radio for years now and she's the best. Last night on the West Coast she would have beaten Larry K again except they changed her time slot so that they weren't competing.

I couldn't find Rachel Maddow more annoying. I thought Keith Olberman owned the crown for biggest idiot, but he's been de-throned. Her attempts at humor make me even more nauseous than Olberman's "impressions."

With that razor sharp wit you should be a writer for Rachel Maddow. Although she might expect you to know how to spell "is."

You think RM is the biggest idiot? Wow. I can see not agreeing with her points of view, but to think that she is the dumbest person is very strange.

Well she isn't and idiot. I sometimes don't find her humor that funny, but that doesn't make her stupid. I just think some people are funny, some aren't. If you aren't funny (I mean stand-up funny) don't try to make jokes. Nothing more cringe worthy than a bad joke that misses its mark. People who are funny and make bad jokes can rebount, TV hosts look silly.

Sorry, you're correct. She is not stupid.

Sorry, no, she is not an idiot. I will grudgingly admit that she is intelligent. But she obviously has zero originality, unless you think mimicking Keith Olbermann is original. And she seems to find extraordinary humor in her own "humor." Just like Keith Olbermann. Sorry to offend the cult...

I love her show, as I do Keith Olbermann (now that he is over his hatred of Hillary), but I'm guessing tonight, with Bill Clinton as his guest, that Larry King will win the ratings ... it will be interesting to see if that does happen. It amazes me that there are still crazy people listening to Rant-iny & Coldms!

yeah it's amazing that fox news continues to crush all the competition. makes you wonder if people arent so stupid enough to believe all the left media bias crap out there. Faux news! LOL I love it though, everytime I turn on the tv and see someone in hollywood bashing conservatives. like at the emmy's they used that as a anti-palin protest platform. And this emmy's were one of the biggest flops ever. Maybe just maybe, this BS is hurting the democratic party and if some people would mind their words and stick to accepting an award without making reference to politics, just maybe the democrats can win another election. Until then though, I think they are screwed. I surely dont ever hear someone in hollywood like sylvester stallone bashing liberals or obama at an awards ceremony. Maybe the left hollywood really is out of touch with america and thats why fox news is kicking all the other networks butts. How does it feel to be the minority liberals?

I watch Rachel. I was very excited when I read she was getting her own show. (Thanks in large part to her exquisite intelligence & a little help from Olbermann). But, I think she has lost a little bit of her edge, that I loved so much. I don't like the Pat Buchannan segments. He's always mad, & she doesn't challenge him like she used to. The show is still somewhat informative, but I would still choose Olbermann over her.
