I Like ItI Don’t Like It

Here's a new video taking a look at John McCain's Keating Five problem in just 97 seconds.

The video combines archival footage of CBS and NBC News (including a report from Andrea Mitchell!) with reporting by CNN's John King aired just last month.

The bottom-line is that two decades after his role in the savings and loan crisis, John McCain is still the same old guy, more focused on deregulation than on delivering the sensible protections we need.

Video edited by Jed Lewison for The Huffington Post.

UPDATE: ThinkProgress catches McCain being asked about the Keating Five scandal yesterday by a local Ohio reporter.

John McCain has a documented history of making poor decisions, both personally and professionally. There's a pattern here. He has proven himself an unworthy senator and now he wants to be our president. Yes, the Keating Five is a big part of his history and it did have dire consequences as the largest financial scandal to rock America. Our current crisis is just more of the same and John McCain is smack dab in the middle of it. This is indicative of his character and what we can expect from him if he's elected. If you enjoy having your head slammed in a door, then go ahead and vote for him. I for one do not. There's an old saying; "IF YOU ALWAYS DO WHAT YOU'VE ALWAYS DONE THEN YOU'LL ALWAYS HAVE WHAT YOU'VE ALWAYS GOT!"

What and spoil their choice for President's chances of winning.

Just as McCain REWROTE Palin's history, some in the media have done the same ............ It's as if McCain was born ON USA SOIL and not in Panama, then immediately became a POW, and somehow fast-forwarded to be the 2008 Presidential candidate .....................

All the details in the middle NEVER happened, including the KEATING 5 SCANDAL.

I live in Arizona and remember the "Keating 5." When Keating was asked if he expected "favors"
from the Senators he said something to the effect: "Of course, I am not STUPID." And, yet,
nothing much happened did it???? (to the Senators, that is. I think Keating went to jail)

I'm from Az., and it really has always boggled my mind that everyone forgot about McCain's involvement in this. As he said in 60 minutes, he is extremely lucky. Lucky to have been cleared and labeled with just having "poor judgement". But you cannot count on your luck all the time, and you certainly can't run a country based on it. I'll take judgement over luck.

How can anybody take McCain seriously when, a short time ago, he was for "deregulation"? It's no secret that his good friend and advisor, Senator Phil Gramm, wrote the original legislation that got all this mess started by voiding the rules it was supposed to prevent. McCain's own manager, Rick Davis, a key figure in his campaign, his firm was paid $2 million for years until August to lobby for Fanny May and Freddie Mac so they wouldn't be regulated. These are facts. So how can McCain suddenly now be for "regulation"? And here in Orange County, more facts: does anybody remember the scandal of Keating and Lincoln Savings of Irvine with their big-time melt-down, the largest failure in the U.S. banking system, with McCain being friends with Keating, accepting contributions from him, and pushing for 'deregulation." So, tell, me please, how does Senator Flip-Flop McCain have any creditability when it comes to being a "deregulator"? (Find out the truth about these things, guys and gals, it's your money and your kids' money they're giving away.)
