WASHINGTON — First lady Laura Bush said Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin lacks sufficient foreign policy experience but is a very quick study.

In an interview Wednesday with CNN, the first lady remarked that it's fortunate that Republican presidential nominee John McCain has foreign policy experience himself.

Still, Mrs. Bush said she has a lot of confidence in Palin. She said the Alaska governor has a lot of good common sense, and the first lady added that she is thrilled to have a chance to vote for Palin on the GOP ticket.

Mrs. Bush also said she thinks Palin is being treated unfairly because she is a woman. That, the first lady said, is to be expected.

I am a Demcrat, but I have always admired Laura Bush. I think she is a kind hearted individual. That said, she spoke the truth about Palin.

We have to first define what "foreign policy experience" is.

People just granted it to McCain just because he's been in the senate for 26 years. WRONG. The guy doesn't know the difference between shias and sunnis. he claimed that Iran was training al-qaeda (it's like saying Israel is training Hizbollah) and many other mistakes. Obama KNOWS. He does his homework (like I do). He's been follwoing the events in the international scene for a long time and uses his brains to analyze and take position, that's why he made the right judgement that the war in Iraq was not a good idea. McCain may get the same information (given his years in DC) as Obama , but he either forgets half of it or he makes the wrong analysis (he has a wrong view of the world from his years in vietnam) Now! The big prize of course goes to the hot chick he picked. She simply doesn't know. She never bothered to learn about the world. She didn't care till few days before the election (some photo ops to fool stupid people). She's a hockey mom. Just vote for me coz i'm a hockey mom..

They decided to give her intensive training and when they found out that it'll be a mission impossible given her ignorance (her head would explode), they just decided to push anyone who would want to talk to her away and just get her to pose for some photo ops

They think if she can take enough photos with world leaders, they can create a nice ad that would resonate with some morons who, unfortunately, do go to the polls

Sarah Palin reminds me of a nosey neighbor who is always telling you to trim your rosebushes but whose husband mows the lawn on Saturday morning at 6:00am.

Laura Bush just could not help telling the truth and then tried to clean it up by saying everyone is beating up on Palin because she is a woman. What a Crock! A lot of Republicans feel the same way about Palin. The know she is wrong for the position but will not publicly admit it.

Otherwise, Laura should just stand around like Cindy McCain with a frozen smile, and look plastic. If they are going to give an opinion let it be a real opinion with real perspective.

Laura, I have excellent common sense, enough to know that it takes more than just common sense to run a country.

Number 1, I'm getting sick and tired of Republicans referring to the "Democrat" party ----- it's obviously one of their subliminal messages that the word isn't worth saying correctly. As far as Laura Bush, goes, she's as phony as the rest of them. ..... Marian The Librarian is probably still a closet alcoholic, as George obviously is. Did everyone forget about her drunk driving accident - I believe the person she hit died, for God's sake. But everyone acts like butter won't melt in her mouth. Can't wait for January 20th to throw my Goodbye Bushes party. What a blast that's going to be.

Here is an excerpt from Dee Dee Myer's article about Sarah Palin:

"What Sarah Palin has done, and this is something I like about her, is that she's a women who has succeeded very much on her own terms. She talks about motherhood as a training ground for leadership; she manages and balances her family and her work in her own way. It's very hard to see where her family ends and her work begins. I think a lot of women see their lives that way. Not everyone's going to go out and shoot a moose and put their hair up in a bun and put on their sexy open-toe shoes and go to dinner. ... But does everybody have to be lock-step on every issue? Or can somebody who's outside--in Sarah Palin's case, very much outside--the traditional feminist agenda still move the ball forward for women? I think the answer is yes. When I hear Pat Buchanan on TV, decrying sexism in the media, you know? This is not all bad. ... I don't know where abortion rights are going to end up in all this, and honestly that concerns me, but I think we need to find a different language to talk about it. I think that there are more women who identify with Sarah Palin than Gloria Steinem right now. Even if they don't agree with 100 percent of her agenda, her life looks more like their lives."

Yeah but there are a lot of women who do a better job than her in balancing family and work. They don't lie about their job record and they don't raise their daughters to be pregnant when they are 17 and before marriage. Many women are that good in this regard. Yet, they don't think that qualifies them to be President

You are right that there are more women who identify with Palin - even if they don't agree 100 percent. McCain realized it and decided to use this women to get their votes.

Do you really believe that he will let her do the job of the VP? I don't. And in this case it will be better that he does get a "Kissinger" for her job because she just doesn't know her stuff. She may be a quick learner, but it is to late for that because the world now knows she can't even BS her way through the material.

You have a point pal. A firm supporter of Barack Obama and the Democrat Party there's no way that I want the Republicans to win this election. But putting on my objective hat I, too, feel that Laura Bush would have made a far better president than her husband ever could, and was even tempted to send a letter to her that I'd drafted three years ago - yes THREE YEARS - to persuade her to put herself forward as a presidential candidate. I think her republican links aside, and which I don't think are pathologically ideological, she'd be a great unifier as Barack Obama has shown and undoubtedly is.

And to those who think that Sarah Palin is "HOT" - a view I don't concur with since I think with my brain and not my genitals and why I'm a professor with 2 PHDs and a plethora of other university degrees - Laura Bush, as we say in the UK (and no disrespect to this lady whatsoever) is the "thinking man's crumpet." The highest accolade that any prescient-minded Brit male can accord a female who he has the highest regards, in every respect including intellectually, for. Incidentally, I still have that drafted letter to Laura Bush on file and could well send it to her in time for the 2016 presidential elections. After Barack has completed his two terms.

You crack me up guy or "professor". Don't you love the 'net? You can be anything you want to be!

A Google search of your name doesn't list any accomplishments that you have in academia, the first page only shows the 15 or more blogs that you have posted on regarding American politics. The only other reference to that name is a "footballer", what we call a soccer player.

First, why the fascination with American politics? Surely you must have your hands full in Britain, what with all the problems the Liberal government is having now.

As for me, I am a theoretical physicist, currently working on solving the mysterious of the universe. I"ll see "your" 2 piled higher and deeper degrees and raise you a fellowship grant.
