WASHINGTON — First lady Laura Bush said Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin lacks sufficient foreign policy experience but is a very quick study.

In an interview Wednesday with CNN, the first lady remarked that it's fortunate that Republican presidential nominee John McCain has foreign policy experience himself.

Still, Mrs. Bush said she has a lot of confidence in Palin. She said the Alaska governor has a lot of good common sense, and the first lady added that she is thrilled to have a chance to vote for Palin on the GOP ticket.

Mrs. Bush also said she thinks Palin is being treated unfairly because she is a woman. That, the first lady said, is to be expected.

Doesn't Laura know that saying Palin doesn't have foreign policy experience is sexist? Shame on you Laura. I would have expected more from a Republican.

First Lady Laura Bush, is a trooper. She at least has some decency to stay above most of the BS. She very easily could have staid with the talking points , however she admits that Caribou Barbie is lacking.

I really like Mrs. Bush. I remembered when even Cindy McCain came out against Michelle Obama about the 'proud' comment, it was Mrs. Bush who said Michelle probably meant to say 'more proud.' She even went on to say, that Michelle has to be so very careful as she is constantly under a microscope and any little misstep is overblown. Michelle was very grateful and sent Mrs. Bush a thank you note as she mentioned when she appeared on 'The View'

Most people would agree that Sarah Palin does not really have foreign policy experience. Her reason of equating the fact that Alaska is next to Russia is just absurd. Actually Bangor, Maine is closer to Moscow than Wasilla, Alaska. We should not fool ourselves this woman is not qualified; she is an affirmative action candidate.

Sarah Palin even tried to tell us that she had been to Iraq, Ireland and I could not just agree more with Senator Chuck Hagel of Nebraska.

Mrs. Bush, Palin may be "a quick study" but this is the vice-presidency, not a high school civics exam!

And the GOP is attacking Obama on "inexperience"!?

she is being treated in a disparate fashion from the other 3 on the tickets. she is being treated unfairly by the republicans who won't allow access to anything, and have protected her like a china doll. pathetic!

shut up, laura bush. go relax now and spend more of your blood money.

I feel that Laura Bush is a gracious and lovely woman. Too bad she cannot cut herself loose from the republican spin. I wonder how she really feels about Palin and her book banning concerns. Laura being a librarian and all. I think she and her daughters will probably vote OBAMA once the curtain is pulled.

Actually, McCain is treating Palin specially PRECISELY BECAUSE Palin is a woman.

John McCain doesn't care one whit for her status as a woman. In my opinion, there can be no greater insult to a woman than to call her a c***. Period. And apparently John McCain has no problem using that very same word to describe his own wife. That says all I need to know to judge how McCain feels about women.

As I understand it, that word is a medical term.
