WASHINGTON — First lady Laura Bush said Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin lacks sufficient foreign policy experience but is a very quick study.

In an interview Wednesday with CNN, the first lady remarked that it's fortunate that Republican presidential nominee John McCain has foreign policy experience himself.

Still, Mrs. Bush said she has a lot of confidence in Palin. She said the Alaska governor has a lot of good common sense, and the first lady added that she is thrilled to have a chance to vote for Palin on the GOP ticket.

Mrs. Bush also said she thinks Palin is being treated unfairly because she is a woman. That, the first lady said, is to be expected.

Palin is perfectly qualified to speak to foreign affairs and issues...After all she's sat across from a few world leaders and can see them from her chair

What do you expect from a silent wife who married Bush?
She has been the most boring, do-nothing FIrst Lady in all of History.

Todd Palin has achieved more with his snowmobiling trophies.

Maybe Laura meant the McDrafter's campaign was treating McToken unfairly. They would let a male speak to the press. Romney's had more face time than Sarah.

Fast learner or not...four weeks ago she had no clue or opinion regarding anything outside of Alaska. If you vote for her, you'd better PRAY that McCain doesn't drop dead on day two or we're all screwed.

So you think McCain is any better?

Common,I know Palin is thick, but to suggest McCain is smarter than her is a bit extreme.

All I can say is that, two stupid people dont equal smart.

Actually, no I don't...I think he'd be a disaster! I was just highlighting that everyone other than Palin in this race at the VERY least gave a crap before a few weeks ago about our policies with Iraq, Iran, etc.

Laura's "expert" opinion notwithstanding, of course Palin is unqualified and the media blackout only confirms it. Someone should ask McCain if he would be sequestering Romney, Huckabee, Ridge, Lieberman et al, if one of them were the VP candidate. Heck no, they'd be out on the road trying to rescue his failed campaign.

Wouldn't it be scary if W thought Palin was a little low on the intellect scale?

Part of Palin's interview with Katie Couric:

COURIC: You've said, quote, "John McCain will reform the way Wall Street does business." Other than supporting stricter regulations of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac two years ago, can you give us any more example of his leading the charge for more oversight?

PALIN: I think that the example that you just cited, with his warnings two years ago about Fannie and Freddie--that, that's paramount. That's more than a heck of a lot of other senators and representatives did for us.

COURIC: But he's been in Congress for 26 years. He's been chairman of the powerful Commerce Committee. And he has almost always sided with less regulation, not more.

PALIN: He's also known as the maverick though. Taking shots from his own party, and certainly taking shots from the other party. Trying to get people to understand what he's been talking about--the need to reform government.

COURIC: I'm just going to ask you one more time, not to belabor the point. Specific examples in his 26 years of pushing for more regulation?

PALIN: I'll try to find you some and I'll bring them to you.

When Laura Bush says - 'Duh... of course she doesn't have any foreign policy experience, that's obvious,' you know Mrs. Congeniality has NO foreign policy experience. So if 72 year old McCain dies, she will inherit the reigns. (Avg lifespan for males is 73.6 years) That should scare the sh !t out of everyone. A pentacostal president?!? Pentacostal is not main-stream Christianity... It's a radical, fundamentalist, speaking in tongues type cult. Just ask her! Oh wait, they won't let her speak. Use her 5 schools in 6 years sports journalism degree to read a teleprompter, but answer a question? Scary, very, very scary!

Let me get this straight: wasn't Laura Bush the one that said Palin had experience because Alaska was close to Russia? Why the change of heart, Laura?

Cindy...Laura. Are they any different in intellect? Neither speaks much, and both are ice-princesses. Both pat their husband's back no matter what atrocities he commits.

I've always thought well of Mrs. Bush. It was good that she admitted Governor Palin doesn't have foreign experience. This is a no-brainer. But. . .does Mrs. Bush TRULY believe that the VP candidate could rise to the occasion should McCain die in office? I suspect she doesn't, but she is being a loyal Republican and willing to admit how silly this appears.

And this is exactly why McCain wants to delay the debates, to give Palin more time to study.

As with her husband, I think she needs to get with it. It's not foreign policy but our Domestic economy that's more pressing right now. And what is it with this Foreign Policy experience that everyone seems to throwing around.?? The only one I know that travelled the world was Nixon...What is McCain's foreign experience...a couple of visits to Iraq...being a POW...what qualifies him as an expert in Foreign Policy?. Palin will do just fine...for one thing she has twice the brain that Bush has and as for Laura...well you be the judge !!. As for the other candidates on the Democratic side there is nothing there that suggests a wealth of Foreign Policy experience. Obama has none as far as we know...and how many times has Biden met with Foreign Leaders or set foot on Foreign soil ?? His experience comes from sitting in Congress. So much for Foreign Policy experience for the next administration....besides we seem to do a better job at it if we stay away and not interfere so let's not make that a qualification for the high office.

Charles, you may want to brush up on your studying a bit.

Charles, you might want to hone up on Biden. He has more foreign policy experience than all three of the other candidates combined. When Obama picked him Iraq was one of the biggest issues. Biden was a thoughful choice. The Palin choice was a Hail Mary at best.

Gotta laugh..Biden voted to go to war with Iraq.( The UN said NO to this war) but In 1991 he voted NOT to go to war after the Kuwait invasion. ( The gulf war, the one the UN said YES to this war.) He has also aggressively pursues NATO to allow Georgia membership. ( Oh Palin does too.) So maybe you should research a bit more.

Laura is smart enough to know what Junior was up to. In the non-Bush Pres. Library state of mind; that is, reality, she would have known that he participated in meetings about what constitutes torture, in the White House. Behavior that historically only tyrants, mobsters, and the deranged engage in.

Sorry, no alter reality needed anymore. Eight years is enough. Lets bring America back. Prosecute-n-Toss the Cons into jail and prevent shadow governments from subverting the country. Then start on the Dark Corporation. Oh wait, the F.B.I. already has.

It is time to regulate the crap out of these criminals and turn Justice loose on them. Stand out of the way, Republicans. We need to make America fit for your children. You clearly wouldn't know how.
