John McCain's campaign now wants to suspend the VP debate?

CNN's Dana Bash reports that McCain officials are "trying to negotiate with the Obama campaign and the presidential debate commission" to change next Thursday's planned vice presidential debate into a McCain-Obama affair. The VP debate would be postponed to another date.

"That is what they are proposing," Bash reported. "[McCain officials] understand very well that both the Obama campaign and the debate commission have no intention of delaying Friday's debate, but...if there is no bailout deal by Friday, McCain has no plan to go to debate."

Watch it:

Update: ABC News confirms the plan.

Here is a theory about the whole debate "delay" Say thiis week's debate was postponed until next week and like the McCain camp wants, have it replace the VP debate. then reschedule this VP debate at a later date to be determined. Think about this. By the time the next scheduled (or, as McCain would have it, "first") presidential debate takes place, 16 states will already be voting. That includes battlegrounds like Iowa, Minnesota, Missouri, Ohio, Virginia, and Wisconsin.

Get as many early votes states passed before you get Palin out there.

Palin has already lost any kind of debate. The message is clear, she needs 3 plus weeks to get up to speed on any issue. In this world, how would you put everything on hold while you bone up on a subject for such a long period of time?

It's because Palin is still waiting for her books on Economy 101, Word Politics 101, and Great American Presidents to be delivered from Amazon.

She needs the book "Vice Presidents for Dummies"

My Friends; I'm just scared of that uppity Obama

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 01:36 PM on 09/25/2008

Why?? Because he's more intelligent than anyone we've had in office for the last 7 1/2 years!?

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 01:47 PM on 09/25/2008

Now what exactly makes Obama uppity? He's a man that speaks well, dresses nice, charismatic, etc. is that? If anyone is uppity I think it's McCain. He's the rich one with 13 cars....

Let's be real..just say you don't like the guy instead of using words like "uppity" that clearly don't describe him.

Don't you feel incredibly condescending using that word? It sounds like you are speaking of a toddler instead of a very respected, well educated man.

I think you confuse the word uppity with educated. It seems that the repubbies have such disdain for anyone who is educated beyond the grammer school level. Afterall, this is the party who wishes to disband the Dept. of Education so it only makes sense. Obama is intelligent and your comment is reflective of an ignorance which prevails amongst the GOP. Get a proper education and then you may understand what Obama is talking about and won't feel so left out.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 02:49 PM on 09/25/2008

Don't call us your friends because that, WE ARE NOT. What does uppity mean? Is he educated? Is McCain educated? Who has more money? Who stays in five star resorts of their corporate friends? Don't use a turn unless you know what it means because uppity is not Barack Obama. John McCain, with his elitist lifestyle and 13 cars is uppity.

You CAN just vote and get it over with. Early voting or absentee ballot. With absentee ballot you may have two witnesses cosign, at least in my state, and you can make a photocopy before you mail it. You can also mail it certified, or registered with return receipt, and you will have proof that you voted and how you voted. What I also like is that I can research, at my leisure, other candidates on the ballot, see how their voting record is, what their education and work history is, etc. Makes for a more educated vote. I also vote on ISSUES, not on personality, and I vote on THE PARTY LINE, i.e. what the political party stands for and wants to promote. I am NOT interested in abortion. I made my mind up on that one a very long time ago. I am also not interested in gay marriage issues; it does not affect me, or anyone I know. Religion is for me a personal issue, and I respect others' religion. Moreover, there supposedly is separation of Church and State in governing. I go for the core issues that affect me, society at large, and the nation.

Mr. John McCain saw an opportunity to grab some attention yesterday. Why it is necessary to postpone a debate of a few hours to be involved in the decisionmaking on the financial crisis, which he will not be in any case, is an issue he has failed to explain, and the press should ask him about that. Mr. McCain has shown us the last few weeks that he is hasty, is on a rollercoaster of emotion and action before thought, and is a risky choice, because he is not stable and consistent. Why it is that he has chosen a runningmate who is not allowed to speak to the press, and has to be sheltered, is also an issue some people might want to ask about. John McCain and his choice for Vice President are ASKING US TO GIVE THEM AN IMPORTANT JOB. And we might ask, if someone came to apply for a job elsewhere, and behaved that way, or set those limits, would he/she be hired, or even be given an interview. I do not think so. What do YOU think?

but bo has bad policies........most people that run a business would find it hard to be hired or even be given an interview. it is a different mindset

THEY ARE PATHETIC. These 2 are applying for the most important jobs in the WORLD and they want to postpone the interview? NO WAY I would hire either of them to be my secretary let alone PRESIDENT AND VICE PRESIDENT

If you in fact read the post, evidently, you failed utterly to grasp its content . Hence, I'll provide you with some clarity, ONLY ONE OF THE PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATES (or at the very least his camp) wants to postpone the debate proceedings . Got it now?

But it is quite plausible that McCain's real intention is to use his postponement to create a chain effect so that Palin's debate will be postponed. I thought she was eager to play "stump the candidate:.

You might like to read the comment again. Seattlefemdem said "PRESIDENT AND VICE PRESIDENT". Referring to McCain and Palin - only one of the presidential candidates and one vice presidential candidate. I hope that provides some clarity.

Sarah Palin = unedumacated (but ready?)
Biden = overly experienced, poorest senator.
McCain = bomb Iraq, Iran, Russia, and Spain (refuses to Bomb N.Pakistan where Osama hides talks more about his time in Nam than he speaks of Afghanistan)
Obama = overly educated well-fare elitist (uppity)

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 01:22 PM on 09/25/2008

I would say this: Sarah Palin has excllent political intuition, but lacks jobskills and experience. Biden is a steady and experienced senator, but his political career and experience has been one-track only. As Vice President he will have a chance to expand his scope. McCain is overqualified, and a senior who is showing signs of aging. He is also impulsive and wants to be the center of attention. He used to be a pretty boy, and forgets that he no longer is that pretty boy. Mr. Obama shows maturity and thought and deliberation before action. He is very well educated and has an appropriate background to be a leading Democrat. He has shown to be a crafty and effective organizer, and to be a man of this age. Then there are the Party Lines of the Republican Party and the Democratic Party. And there is the timeline. This is the time for reform of politics and society, for fairness and return of governing and some regulation. This is needed for the nation, the population and especially for business. Deregulation has caused outflow of all sorts of resources, of the taxbase and of capital and innovation. That is not good for business, and the business of the U.S. is business.

Doesn't he realize how much anxiety he just heaped on top of all the other problems we're having? We need to see both candidates present their ideas on a direction for the future. Now! There is no delaying with a month to go unless they plan on continuing a pattern of delays untill they decide to delay the election altogether.

Something stinks...

Letterman and Olbermann got it right last night. Keith asked Dave if you are the RNC and there's only time for 3 debates which debate would you want to cut out? Dave: the VP debate . Keith agreed and said that there would have to be 3 presidential debates so Americans could decide the best 2 out of 3. This whole thing is just one BIG RNC distraction. DEBATES INSTEAD OF ECONOMY. Good suspend your campaign .... we are FORGING ON, STEAMROLLING ON, REGISTERING VOTERS and raising money.

Two days ago, Palin was interviewed by Katie Couric. She FAILED in her attempt to answer blatant questions that Couric asked.

Does anyone think that this is McCain's ploy to keep Palin out of the limelight??

McCain and the Repugs think they can call the shots, here?

He's a CANDIDATE, for heaven's sake, NOT in charge of the show.

He's applying for the job, not running the business!

Does the McCain/Palin campaign really think the American people are a bunch of bozos? The debates must go on! If McCain is too chicken to turn up, then let Obama be asked questions from both the moderator and the crowd.

And by the way, where does McCain get off blaming Obama for McCain's negative campaign because Obama wouldn't go to townhall meetings with him? What a childish, silly man McCain has become.

Yes. So do Bush and Cheney, I suspect the eminences grises behind the choice of McCain and Palin.
