La Times:

I was water-skiing with my children in a light drizzle off Hyannis, Mass., last month when a sudden, fierce storm plunged us into a melee of towering waves, raking rain, painful hail and midday darkness broken by blinding flashes of lightning. As I hurried to get my children out of the water and back to the dock, I shouted over the roaring wind, "This is some kind of tornado."

The fog consolidated and a waterspout hundreds of feet high rose from the white ocean and darted across its surface, landing for a moment on a moored outboard to spin it like a top, moving toward a distant shore where it briefly became a sand funnel, and then diffusing into the atmosphere as it rained down bits of beach on the harbor. For 24 hours, a light show of violent storms illuminated the coastline, accompanied by booming thunder. My dog was so undone by the display that she kept us all awake with her terrified whining. That same day, two waterspouts appeared on Long Island Sound.

Those odd climatological phenomena led me to reflect on the rapidly changing weather patterns that are altering the way we live. Lightning storms and strikes have tripled just since the beginning of the decade on Cape Cod. In the 1960s, we rarely saw lightning or heard thunder on the Massachusetts coast. I associate electrical storms with McLean, Va., where I spent the school year when I was growing up.

I must strenuously disagree. The better analogy is Dan Quayle in drag. But even Dan does not believe in witches casting spells that are actually effective; unfortunately, Ms. Palin appears to hold such a belief. Real 16th century orientation.

Nope. Not much difference in Cheny and Kill and Drill Palin!
You can put lipstick on a Kill and Drill Politician but she's STILL a Kill and Drill Politician!
(You can put lipstick on a hockey mom too.... but it doesn't make her presidential.....)

Spirited Dona took an interest in Robert, as we both were supporting HRC! I admired Robert for saying BOLDLY that Hillary had our trust in a way Sen obama never could. I even had a blog group, "Roses Boys", after Teddy endorsed O! Saying that, I ask Robert to intellectually negotiate with Sarah Palin, as do I. Do not disparage a woman's good name, who knows Hillary Clinton and Gerry Ferrano are her historical predecessors and that 911 was a tragedy beyond a tragedy. America first, everything and everybody, next! I am a Hillary supporter for Palin! You betcha!

No,no, as HRC stated any TRUE support of her would not support Palin.

Maybe your support is based on something very different!

Obama is risky, scary and too inexperienced.
Our country is in such turmoil.

Young Americans better wake up and realize that this is a job interview.

I’ve had a business my whole life and would NEVER look for inexperience as a positive attribute.
It’s like flying an airplane. I would never select a new pilot to navigate in treacherous weather.

This isn’t a popularity contest.

McCain is the only one qualified to handle Washington’s mess and foreign policy. His ability to reach across the aisle and meet with Democrats is his finest attribute.

Obama is not willing to do that.

McCain is a hero fighting to help America.

Obama is just a narcassist that is fighting to win for himself.

Young Americans would rather get body parts pierced...

Amongst other things.

A shame it's not a Obama/Palin ticket.

I needed something to add a bit of lightness to this mess and you did it when I read the headline the only difference between sarah palin and cheney is lipstick. Cheney could do with some lipstick also McCain they are both terribly pale.

Maybe they'll put some on him for the debate tonight. They could hire that lady who did his make up at CBS when he was supposed to be on Letterman.

Hey everybody!!! Take a minute to read this scathing, but honest article about you-know-who:

Excellent article. Thank you for the heads up.

You know, after reading this article; I am truly afraid for one of the first times in my 60 years on earth. Sam Harris makes some really compelling points in this article.

It is true. We have begun to elect people like we were voting for homecoming king or queen. I greatly admire the people who graduated from high school with me. We have Drs and lawyers and pharmacists and bankers - even a hollywood personality - all from a teeny tiny town in TX. 90% of us are successful and there are probably only 10% of us who identify as anything but Republican. While I would trust most of them to have my back and support me and we still get together occasionaly to eat a bite and drink some drinks - I can't think of 1 that I would nominate to be Pres or even VP of the US. Funny thing, I can't think of any of them that if they were asked might say "Sure, I bet I could do that", The funny thing is, if they were on smarter than a 5th grader most would give a good standing of geography and world affairs - even better than Sarah.

Sam is right , we would not think of hiring someone incompetent to do most things for us - but we will consistently vote to entrust our lives and our children's lives to 30 second sound bites and personality and the fact that someone is a woman.

Did Robert Kennedy just say he uses a motor boat? Did he say this when he was getting on his private plane or one of his other fossil fuel vehicles? It sounds like RFK has burned a lot of oil traveling and heating various homes. Why doesn't Kennedy want the wind farms near his house? It would seem like Palin's views on drilling for oil are more vital than ever with Mr. Kennedy's excessive use of gasoline.

Anyway, if Robert Kennedy's dog is so undone by the violent thunderstorm, we have to do something about this global crisis!

Some proof that it is true, no proof that it is otherwise. Palin comes up short when compared to Cheney in terms of influence/power in repub circles---either in politics or in biz.
She has not been too bright in them nonrepub-controlled media, hasn't she? She is so programmed to memorize the party talking points that she finds herself with no room to maneuver in them interviews that she just stumbles along when her script contradicts facts.
Sarah aint quick on her feet when pressed to explain her contradictions, or expand on a given topic outside the talking points.

Other than that, she is a great repub VP pick. Give credit to McCain, 'cuz he can sure pick 'em!
